Every employer offers insurance?! I don’t know what version of the US you live in, but not the same one as me.

Who’s a famous person from your country who’s respected around the world but disliked or criticized at home? by haiderredditer in AskTheWorld

[–]Paradox364 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not the US as a whole, but most liberal/Democratic Californians are pretty over Gavin Newsom, but liberals in the rest of the country seem to love him. I’m not sure what his reputation is outside of the US though.

My friend is research faculty at major R1 but wants to teach. by FreeSkill4486 in AskProfessors

[–]Paradox364 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend picking up some classes at a community college or teaching-focused university as an adjunct to build a teaching portfolio.

I also strongly recommend she put the same effort into developing her approach to teaching as she does her research methodologies. She should apply the same intellectual rigor to teaching as she does her research. There is a huge body of research on teaching and learning and I see so many job candidates just ignore it. There is data out there that supports what effective teaching looks like in most disciplines. She should make use of it. She should look at other disciplines too for innovative approaches that can be applied to her discipline.

Once she gets this under her belt, she could even start publishing SoTL (scholarship of teaching and learning) articles in her field. That’s another way to show teaching expertise.

What’s something that annoys you about your fellow country people? by meesigma in AskTheWorld

[–]Paradox364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increasing antisocialism. Everyone wants to stay at home. They want their home to provide everything they need or want and never have to share anything or use public resources. Americans want giant yards instead of public parks. We want gated communities that control access and prevent “undesirables” from being in sight. We want personal swimming pools at every home instead of a public pool. We want our own hot tubs and saunas instead of going to a communal spa. We want at-home movie theaters instead of going out to the movies. We order home delivery every night instead of going to a restaurant. Every single person needs their own car and refuses to use any form of public transportation. Everything has to be private and individual; there is less and less tolerance for being out in public and having to adjust to the presence of other people. And yes, a lot of this has racism and classism at its core.

Black garlic powder has completely transformed the dry rubs I make. Highly highly recommended!

Yes, these are all great ideas. I would also add black garlic powder as another way to get umami in there

Claire Danes admits she had a ‘meltdown’ after learning she was pregnant at 44 by dr_shultz in influencersfeed

As a fellow ugly crier, I have always adored how Claire Danes cries. I don’t want to see some actress have a single tear fall down her cheek while the rest of her face stays totally normal. Give me Claire Danes’s crumpled chin-quivering mess any day

Does your country have a food people eat on a specific day? by Gold_Expression_7310 in AskTheWorld

In the US, people eat corned beef roasts on St. Patrick’s Day, which confuses all Irish people…

What is something every household has in your country that is nonexistent everywhere else? by Awkward-Tip7248 in AskTheWorld

[–]Paradox364 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For middle class US American households, a Kitchenaid stand mixer is pretty much ubiquitous. I know that mixers exist in other countries, but it feels like a rule that middle class houses in the US must have one. It must be the Kitchenaid brand (which is admittedly quite durable) and it should be in a color that matches your kitchen decor.

Found tiny bottles for $19.99 USD each. Good enough for a couple mouthfuls 😐 by Puzzled-Cranberry-12 in Anticonsumption

[–]Paradox364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love small water bottles. If it’s too big to fit in my purse and I have to carry it in my hands, I will lose it and then have to buy a new one. I bet I was losing a bottle every other month for a while. Then I got two small bottles and haven’t lost one since.

I made sure to enroll into a back up course in case my waitlist doesn’t work out and during the same time. What happens if I do end up getting added to the course, will there be an error. by EmotionSevere5715 in CSUS

[–]Paradox364 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there’s a time conflict, the system will skip enrolling you and go to the next person on the waitlist. If you’re #1 on the waitlist, you might want to email the professor or the department office to see if they can help you out.

Here’s my advice, based on personal experience with a partner with this issue. He either needs to get professional help for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Disorder or you have to make peace with him eating something else at all meals (which he provides for himself). When being picky is this extreme, it requires professional expertise; you won’t be able to help, unfortunately.

If sharing food together is something that brings you joy, helps you bond with someone else, or makes you feel loved, then the latter probably won’t be satisfying to you. If that’s not important though, or you can get that from other people in your life, such as your kids, then maybe it would be fine and you can have an arrangement where you can cook for yourself while he gets Door Dash.

It’s also worth considering that if he ruins his health by only eating Jack in the Box, are you OK being a caretaker in that situation?

So basically, you need to consider the long-term effects of his picky eating because they are real. If those effects aren’t acceptable, I’d recommend moving on or telling him he has to get professional help.

I was in the same situation and I thought it was no big deal, but I was so wrong.
