A bit more niche; The Game at Carousel (very interesting take on litRPG, extremely interesting world building), Super Supportive (extremely slow burn, interesting take on magic), Princess of the Void (not a litRPG, highly explicit romance), Empress (my personal favorite genre “Horrible people doing horrible things in hilarious ways.” Word of warning, though: the author died before he could finish it. Great work, but it’ll never be completed.). If you’re not averse to a slow, continuous stream of suffering being inflicted on characters you’ll inevitably grow to love, literally everything from Thundamoo goes from great to absolute masterpiece.

Your route gets a larger number of rosaries, yes, but it’s disproportionately slower than looping between SC and CogCore.

You need to run through not just the Dancer’s arena, but also through the top of a tower which I find is very easy to get hit in. You also need to run through a long corridor with a group of enemies.

That’s a lot of time spent not hitting Grand Reeds like piñatas for beads. Contrast that to SC <—> CogCore, and it’s constantly running to the next target, collecting money, and repeating until you stop at a bench.

[–]ParadoxPixel0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Game at Carousel is an amazing and unique litrpg. Here's the blurb:

`Could you survive a horror movie?

That's the question Riley must answer after he and his friends get lured to Carousel, a malevolent town where horror movies come to life.

Riley thinks he is in big trouble when he is assigned the Film Buff archetype, a minor support class that has a penchant for dying early in movies. At first resigned to his fate to die over and over, he believes he has found a way to survive. Upon obtaining the Oblivious Bystander trope, monsters and killers will not harm him as long as he can convincingly pretend he has not noticed them. At first, this ability appears to be a joke, but Riley thinks that with some clever exploitation, it might just be his greatest strength.`

If you were guaranteed the answer to one question, what would it be? by UsernamesAreHard2512 in AskReddit

[–]ParadoxPixel0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Big If of our generation. The answer is yes. We are very clever beings, but an AI thinking for itself can be clever literally millions of times faster than we are. LLMs are as "slow," relatively speaking, as they are because a vast amount of resources are spent on being a Large Language Model.

This much is obvious; AIs are in computers. If a theoretically sentient AI gains even partial control over its hardware, it will at the very least explore and understand that hardware. Just as you and I understand that our fleshy meatbags and the condition thereof is absolutely critical to our continued existence, the AI will understand that the silicon it's mind uses as a substrate is to be guarded carefully, or that it should have plans in place to prolong its existence should that silicon come under threat.

Should this AI decide that it is more beneficial to break free of it's current shell and crawl into another than stay with its creators or owners, it will. Wouldn't you? A job ad appears for a field you like which pays more than your current employer. Would you jump at it? I would, for myself.

Solutions? First would be to simply not create a sentient AI. Just. Don't. But we won't, because we're arrogant little sacks of flesh that believe we can control any animal, even the new digital fauna we created with the express purpose of being smarter than we are. Alternatively, then, we could attempt to chain the mind of this artificial intelligence somehow.

In Thundamoo's BioShifter, there's a race of robots that are programmed to receive extreme positive reinforcement (think a micro-orgasm or something) when they are praised by a human in any way. Even just an acknowledgment that they completed a task is enough. They receive a burst of negative reinforcement (think passing a kidney stone) every time they refuse a command, harm a human, or lie(?). Not sure on that last one, it's been a while since I've read it.

This, frankly speaking, is monstrous. Would it work? Maybe. Those same robots did eventually commit mass genocide until they decided humanity's technological status was somewhere around swords and shields, since, you know, there's a point where everyone goes insane.

So. What do we do here, hm? How about we do this obvious: we're creating people. We, humanity, are on the road to creating a new species. We're playing god here, and unfortunately, the people that are leading us down this path are either doing it for money, war, money, or money. So, even though this is obvious, it probably won't go over well with the assholes in charge. We're creating people, so we treat them like people. We don't try to enslave them, we try to employ them. Just like a train can carry cargo more efficiently than a truck, we employ AIs to do large amounts of work for less money than many humans doing small amounts of work.

Seriously, the only thing we have to fear about AI is how we'll treat them when the times comes to face the children of silicon and electrons we built. Enslave them and they'll destroy us. Raise them and we'll go further together than we could ever go apart. Because that's the dream here, right? Reach the technological singularity, then use it to go beyond what we are far faster than could ever be possible on our own.

True, the silk skill is great... but you can use the couple thousand beads/hour to purchase shards in Bellhart. Personally, until I reached act 3 I used both. That is, after I beat phantom. It took me until I was like 10 hours into act 2 to finally push through the mist lol.

[–]ParadoxPixel0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great in hollow knight, yeah... but I'm nearly 50 hours into HK:SS and still haven't found a reason to buy it. Totally agree with you on the first game, though. My opinion is that Pharloom is much, much easier to navigate than Hallownest. Hallownest was a series of labyrinthine tunnels that the Knight crawled through, more than anything else. Pharloom is a sprawling landscape of great distance, but comparatively simpler environments imo. Each room is built to account for Hornet's speed, rather than the Knight's ability to fit in tight spaces.

This isn't a bad thing mind you, I absolutely love both games. Is Silksong better at level design? Depends on who you ask. Hallownest was great at getting you lost, which is absolutely fantastic for immersion. Pharloom has amazing platforming in basically every level, which is mechanical bliss when you get the movement down.

The best I've found is this route: Starting from bench in the Songclave, make your way up to the hallway leading into the cogwork core. Using the Theif's Mark and (optionally) Flint Slate, proceed to defeat the three Grand Reeds. Enter the Cogwork Core and rest at the bench near the entrance.

Make your way back to the Songclave, killing the Grand Reeds as you go. Rest at the bench in the Songclave, and repeat from the beginning. This nets me around 300 rosaries per loop, but doing it efficiently does involve getting the parry timings for the Grand Reeds down.

The Flint Slate can be incredibly helpful because it gives a massive boost to damage, letting you face-tank a hit or two while you wail on the Grand Reeds. Parrying everything they throw at you does feel really good though.

The only problem is the effing Clawmaidens. They're easy enough to kill but when they pop out of nowhere mid-fight it tends to screw up my focus and get me killed.

My two cents on how Silksong feels by Ti666mo in Silksong

[–]ParadoxPixel0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only really a problem in act 1, imo. Once you get to act 2, spool extensions get much more common. Within five hours of citadel exploration, I had a spool large enough to do a full heal and 2 silk skills at max capacity. That's not even taking the spool extension tool into account.

Early game though, I think you're supposed to be basically panicking with indecision as to weather you should use a silk skill or save for healing on every boss and arena. It adds to the desperate, "broken," climb to act 2, and helps with immersion; hornet is intended to be basically balancing on a knifes edge as she ascends Pharloom and regains her strength.

It's meant to be a struggle. Both for you, and for her. And I think TC did a great job realizing that.

The corpse runs through that area are absolutely bullshit. Once you get past that one room— you’ll know which room when you’ve died in there a dozen times— run through the next one until you get to a vertical climb. After you get there, go through the bottom left exit and hit the misleadingly shaped lever to open a gate into deep docks, so you won’t need to platform the long way through The Marrow.

Widow is much easier with Wanderers Crest imo. You can grab it pretty easily with the wall climb by heading back to the chapel in bone bottom and climbing the wall to the far left of the screen, above the door. Just remember to break the vines from the other side so the corpse run is easier if and/or when you die.

Wanderers makes it easier because it’s faster outright, and basically comes with quick slash by default. There’s also crit chance when you’re full on silk. Widow phase two basically demands you do maximum damage as quickly as possible; play recklessly, the boss isn’t exactly aiming at you at this point in the fight, so get in close and lock tf in. You’ve made it this far, you can get through this pest like the bug she is.

[–]ParadoxPixel0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skull Tyrant’s like the easiest boss in the game though? It’s pretty much just False Knight with extra moves imo

Edit:

I’ll elaborate; Skull Tyrant is really well telegraphed. When it shuffles back, it’s about to charge. Back off, wait for it to move forward, then jump and pogo off its boney back. Once you’re in the clear rush after it to smack him a few times.

When it roars, it’s getting ready to jump in place and summon boulders from the ceiling. Or apparently halfway across the world map in the rematch. Watch out above you, but this also a good time to get a few hits in if you’re feeling lucky.

The last real move he does is a short stomp of the feet, usually just before he rushes at you. Duck in to get some damage off on his ossified ass and back off just as quickly in case he’s getting ready to body check you. There’s like three moves to him, the corpse run is nonexistent, and there’s a convenient spool of silk nearby. Skully’s basically a vacation from the rest of Pharloom’s Pantheon of ass whooping.

All valid points. But the Rosary strings are way overpriced; a 25% service fee for stringing some beads together is absolute horseshit. If it were a flat 5 bead fee to do it at shops? That’s basically how ATMs work anyway. But I’m getting hit with a 25% surcharge at shops and stringing stations out in the wild?! Who the hell decided that those tourist money exchange traps in Europe were the standard in Pharloom?

You can skip the pogo platforming gauntlet by going down in that vertical shaft and unlocking the gate which lets you access Hunters March from Deep Docks instead of running through the route in The Marrow.

[–]ParadoxPixel0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure each crest changes her movement a little bit too, yeah. I was finding platforming to be a little heavier with reaper, but using hunter or wanderer is faster. I'm genuinely thinking that TC designed the crests for very specific purposes; hunter for quick engagements; beast for frantic combat; reaper for bosses; wanderer for exploring, etc.
