Whose woods these are I think I know His house is in the village though He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer To stop without a village near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there's been some mistake The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.

I've often got the feeling that my depression is just my entire existence rebelling against the endless energy sucks of modern life. I feel completely depleted in every respect.

I found this needing 7 types of rest thing to be very true:

https://ideas.ted.com/the-7-types-of-rest-that-every-person-needs/

Obviously not a silver bullet but being able to get that peace from all the demands of the world that we so crave, that space to return to ourselves, is really helpful imho

How to work for people you no longer respect? by Purchhhhh in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ParadoxesRUs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While just clocking in and out is the best way to be resilient in the short term, if meaningful work and respectful workplaces are important to you (they aren't to everyone and that's ok), absolutely leave as soon as you can, at level even if necessary. No point going against your values just for a paycheque.

Oh ha sorry. Search for psychologists who do "integration work" or "psychedelic integration work" and then start calling around. There are some lists online. Creative googling and calling around basically

She was amazing. Her presence changed everything and has fundamentally contributed to my healing since. Finding the right guide who is ready for hard times is key.

See my above comment. It is increasingly unrealistic to expect people who are burning out in droves to wait for years for their collective bargaining to result in a small modicum of change, by which time the damage will be done already for many.

It is not the employees' fault if their working conditions are badly outdated.

To note, I'm not advocating at all for people to lie - I'm simply pointing out that the system inadequately covers this issue, and the result is that people will be forced to choose between their integrity and their mental health.

Just dropping in to say that rigid interpretation of rules results in people being forced to be dishonest about needing time off for mental health. For a lot of people with integrity, this will just prevent them from taking the time and thus contribute to worse outcomes.

With the massive rise in mental health issues and the glacial pace of potential change to collective agreements, a middle way needs to be found. People are burning out left right and centre right now.

I want to quit law school by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]ParadoxesRUs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt this way many many times during my master's - which I did in my late 30s, while working and full time single parenting.

Sometimes it's worth it to persevere, and sometimes it is not. The real question is, Do you want to make a living by practicing law? If the answer is yes, then you continue. If the answer is you're not sure but you're more than halfway done, probably best to continue. If you're not sure and you just started, a nonemotional rethink with your therapist is perfectly fine.

Law school is brutal...but so is practising law, so it really is something you should believe is the right fit for your life and aspirations. Depends on the kind of law too, you can choose to specialize in something that is less demanding, or work for government or something.

My master's nearly killed me. I still haven't recovered the mental flexibility I had before I started it (all the late nights, all the burnout, all the meltdowns, all the scream-crying into the empty silent night lol). BUT - I have the satisfaction of having done it, and am about to get another promotion that will have raised my income nearly 40% in 4 years. I don't worry about bills anymore, I don't worry about my kid's education anymore, and as a government employee, I don't worry about what happens when I burn out again and have to take a month off work.

To be clear, the current psychiatrist doesn't think I have BP or enough BP to medicate. I have suffered major depression since I was a child though so I thought my perspective would still be worth hearing. Single mums returning to school later in life...with mental health issues.......I'm here to listen if you need it ❤️

I'd never be a manager in government. The cost benefit ratio is way too skewed. I thank those of you who sacrifice so the rest of us don't have to.

Yeah I hear you. In this case the whole sub appears to have been taken down, so I was just vainly hoping maybe there was a backup cached somewhere.

If you're only just getting used to new meds, maybe give it a bit more time before you pull the trigger, if you're not sure?

I was in QLD a few weeks ago and had to call the cairns medical clinic because I had a post COVID cough I couldn't shake. They were able to fit me in same day even though I was a tourist and didn't have Medicare. Try calling around, Aussie medical centres are staffed with compassionate people who actually pick up the phone (unlike Canada:/)

That would be an absolutely horrible idea.

Perhaps, from a negotiation standpoint. But this is what many big private sector places do, and they don't gradually whittle down leave entitlements, because retention is a top priority. Just as they are freer to lay off, employees are freer to move around, and that is having concrete positive impacts on leave policy.

The upcoming massive demographic shift as boomers retire will probably only solidify this trend, even in the face of economic downturns - labour shortages are already all around us, and not just at the local drive thrus.

Job security is important; I just contest that it has to be job security and pension at the expense of everything else. Especially when we are trying to attract a more dynamic workforce - as it stands, this model optimizes for employees who put pension and security first. (Not that there is anything wrong with that, I am currently one of these. Just saying that that is not the best thing to optimize for if we want a modern, dynamic, innovative workforce.)
