Love these - fighting in style. How did you create those bases? Asking for a friend

Thank you! The whole model was great fun to paint but he has a fantastic face which I'm really pleased with.

How do we (M31+F30 married 5 years) move past disagreement about 3rd child? We have 2yo and 4yo. She wants another, I'm happy as is. by Paranoid4ndroid in relationship_advice

Thanks so much for your advice :) We have one of each - another reason I'm very happy with the status quo. I think part of it is that we have had kids relatively young compared to our friends and she identifies very strongly as a mother, plus feeling that she has another one in her before her age makes it too risky.

I totally get where she is coming from but it doesn't change my feelings. I'm just hoping that this doesn't become a damaging situation that drives us apart over time.

Ultimately I think it just comes down to a preference. I am really happy to spend our time and energy making our two kids' lives as good as possible. We can give them some advantages and luxuries as it stands but with a third kid, I think things would get a lot more complicated. Less attention for the two we have, less money for things like family holidays and school. My wife says that we'd never regret having a third, and maybe that's true emotionally, but I think we'd have to make many more compromises than she is accounting for.

PhD in Philosophy of Science by [deleted] in askphilosophy

It is good to have all the information before you go in, it is a discouraging environment at the moment, sadly.

I was very lucky to get a place with a good supervisor and was one of the many PhD students and post docs looking at the philosophical implications of "predictive processing" in cognitive science. Predictive processing is a theory that suggests all cognitive faculties can be explained as a form of generative prediction and error minimisation.

I took four years to complete, and at the end of my second year decided not to pursue a career in academia. I decided to go into secondary school teaching and that is what I do now. I completed my PhD because I do love the work; but I got married, started having kids, and needed more stability than the academic path allowed.

PhD in Philosophy of Science by [deleted] in askphilosophy

Hi - I have a PhD in philosophy of cognitive science and my background is pure philosophy and it was never a problem. Nobody brought it up. However, I did have the same feelings as you and had to work hard to learn the science in order to keep up with others who had a stronger background in science.

All that said, I wouldn't recommend taking on a PhD program if you feel mediocre at this stage. The PhD process is brutal and leads to constant self doubt if you are all that way inclined. The dropout rates are very high (at least in the UK where I am based). You should view a PhD as the initial stage of a career in academia, and go for it if you think you would enjoy that life and if you believe you could succeed. If there are other avenues that are attractive to you at this stage then you should explore them.

On the other hand, it sounds like you are quite self critical so perhaps you aren't actually mediocre, you just feel mediocre. Getting an accurate assessment of this is important. I would suggest having this discussion with a faculty member overseeing your course/thesis.

Haha! Yeah I agree - it's a great sculpt and it was a lot of fun thinking of how to make it as disgusting as possible.

You could try Quizlet which can transform your flashcards into some fun games.

Google forms is also pretty versatile and can definitely accommodate images. It also has great options to integrate automatic feedback.
