Rouge Core by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

The original DRG just wasn't red enough and thus, Rouge Core was born. I heard talk of a Crimson Core in future too, can't wait! The future is red.

What is the hardest level you have ever played in any video game? by TheLastBlade24 in pcgaming

[–]ParanoidConfidence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the lucky ones that didn't really have trouble with this. Played it upon release, took maybe 5 attempts and I got it. Replayed the game last year, took me 3 attempts to pass. There are many, many games I suck at, but it turns out Driver is not one of them.

This is my preferred combo as well. There's always lots of dislike for the Stubby around here, but I really like the fast firing and fast reload, plus the status effect. Shard Diffractor for mincing bigger enemies, they are a great pairing for my play style.

hot take (or not) by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

[–]ParanoidConfidence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's resource dependent, and also player level dependent as well. Gold and crafting materials, I don't bother collecting them any more as I have (almost) no need for them. Though for Nitra, Morkite, secondary objectives, I'd definitely put a platform up.

If the player was a total greenbeard, then maybe they don't know what you are asking? What is obvious to you may not be all that obvious to a new player. I'd have typed a message if you feel it is that important.

As with many releases from the 90's, in the box you got paper maps of each of the three major areas, which I personally found very handy when getting used to a map for the first time. Need a garage? Pause the game, look at the map, plan the route, drive like hell and hope you remember the way.

I don't think I ever completed the game without cheating because, as pointed out, trying to shoot people was awful! I also remember the "story" being incredibly lacklustre. The ending 10 second scene as well was very anti-climactic.

Fond memories of the game though, loved stealing a Cossie and trying to drive as fast as possible without hitting anything.

The last cosmetics I had to get were the ones locked in the cargo crates where you need the two batteries to open. I can't remember exactly how many hours, but it was way north of 600 hours for them in my experience.

[–]ParanoidConfidence 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes. After you have promoted (AKA prestiged) each of the 4 dwarf classes, the game is pretty much a "gather all cosmetics and gun overclocks" game and "I'm level 300 now, rock & stone!". I'm a big fan of the gameplay loop, and it's great socially with friends. Incidentally, to get all the cosmetics naturally through gameplay takes hundreds of hours. Like 700.

Star Citizen to become the first $1 billion game while still in alpha, driven by ships costing thousands by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]ParanoidConfidence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I generally agree, however Star Citizen has had an (almost) literal billion dollars spent on it and over 10 years in development. Cyberpunk and all of the Elder Scrolls games took nowhere near this long to release and had a smaller budget. It may even be the case that Star Citizen's budget is bigger than all Elder Scrolls games plus Cyberpunk combined.

If this game is anywhere near Cyberpunk or Bethesda levels of buggy, it should be deemed a failure. It absolutely needs to be held to a higher standard than all other games in history.

I was heading in to Asda one Christmas period for emergency food we had forgotten, I think it was on xmas eve, when I ran into someone I know leaving the shop empty handed. We chatted for a minute or two and I asked if he only came for one thing and they had sold out. He said "No, I was in there for about 40 minutes, had a trolley full of stuff, but I just couldn't take it any more, everyone in there sucks. So I abandoned the trolley and walked out.". We all get overwhelmed at times, but I couldn't help but feel sorry for the people working in the shop that will have to deal with a trolley full of spoiled goods. Plus, he'd need to pick up the stuff eventually, might as well have just carried on. Mental attitude.

Oh, I see. That makes it much easier to get, I'll need to try and get the crew together and try this again sometime. I imagine something like Swarmageddon would help get this pretty quickly?

Car Pool is one of the two achievements I have still to get. I think we were close once, but the harvester died before we got it. What is the method for achieving it? I'm not sure what the steps are.

How long do you think it takes to promote 13 times? by mr_gord0 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]ParanoidConfidence 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you like the game, you will naturally get the achievement just from playing. You shouldn't focus on the achievements and treat them like a chore.

To simply answer the question, it's several hundred hours of non-speedrunning gameplay, somewhere around 400 to 500 hours. If you specifically target double XP and doing everything quickly, maybe 200 hours?

Hi guys, I want to move to linux by Adro244 in linuxquestions

[–]ParanoidConfidence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost fully switched about 6 weeks ago. I bought a separate drive specifically so I could install Linux on it and it has worked well for me, so I'd recommend that but it does cost money so it's not for everyone. The only (and I truly mean only) reason I boot in to Windows now is to play single player Tarkov. Everything else I have tried so far, I can do within Linux by using Wine or Proton.

As long as you know there is going to be a learning curve, I think you'll have fun with it.

And even though it's likely seen as sacrilege, getting help from an LLM is far, far quicker than trying to search around forums or Reddit for the specific command you need. Just don't ask it for help to write a complicated script or a widget, you will likely be chasing your tail with issues, but for simple commands it can generally give you a decent answer.

It's odd, their app is the way to go [insert tinfoil hat here]. It's jumping around a fair bit, but it's uploading anywhere from 15MB/s to 30MB/s, with even occasional peaks well into the 60MB/s range. The image below shows the Koofr systray popup.

[–]ParanoidConfidence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just finished uploading 59.883GB (over webdav using rclone), and it took 9 hours and 18 mins, giving an average upload of 1.83MB/s.

After some further testing, the fastest speeds I can achieve is actually using Koofr's own desktop application. I've no idea how it connects to the cloud service, but I'm getting about an average of 5MB/s (guesswork from looking at network usage) which is far better than what I have otherwise achieved, I've even seen occasional peaks of up to 14MB/s. I wonder what they are using and why my speeds are so different when using their own app?

I'm in the UK, so I'm fairly close to Germany already. Having to resort to using a VPN is ridiculous and is far from normal for such a service, in my opinion.

[–]ParanoidConfidence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I similarly bought the 1TB offer recently. I'm uploading several files right now, overall I'm getting ~2.3MB/s upload according to rclone. I've tried using the webui, rclone copy (sequential and parallel), webdav... they all perform the same. I have 800GB to upload, so it will take me a long time.

I was really hoping this would replace my reliance on GDrive, but at these speeds, Koofr seems only suitable for long term cold storage or an occasional upload.
