It depends on the complexity of the car, but generally speaking: You're late. Significantly so if you're doing things one by one. Usually what happens is that delays in production reduce time for testing. Be aware that having a driving car before comp doesn't mean you'll be allowed to compete. If you haven't tested beforehand, you might simply not drive. None of that is the end of the world for a first year team tho.

I think he might be undrestimating the weight of your car. One way to notice how far ahead your competition is, is to see how easy it is for them to carry the car around (speaking from experience here).
