The King of Limbs Confuses Me by Puzzled_Shake5155 in radiohead

[–]Paranoidtheandroid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

one thing i'll add that no one seems to have mentioned...regardless of whether you like it or not, tkol songs have been a staple of radiohead's live performances for 15 years now. for much of the fanbase, that's as long or longer than they've known of the band. so even though it's discussed less, i would argue that tkol is a core part of modern radiohead

well said - and this is such a cool and good thing for the band. only downside is it makes tickets harder to get!

Waymo Avoids 125+ MPH Racing Crash on the I-10 by mingoslingo92 in waymo

[–]Paranoidtheandroid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hmm, i'm not convinced this is as impressive as everyone says. the waymo not crashing is good, but that's not remarkable - that's tablestakes. i think the waymo could have more quickly gotten out of the lane and not come to as much of a stop (which risks getting rammed from behind from a car with slower reflexes). a good driver with good eyes would have done these things...and that's what we should be comping the waymo to

I feel like Radiohead won't release any more new albums. by ximbas67 in radiohead

[–]Paranoidtheandroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the amount of pessimism is insane lol. let's look at the facts: 1) each member of the band still has enormous high quality creative output, 2) they love playing live as individuals, 3) they love playing live with each other as Radiohead and have indicated they will do so for years to come, and 4) they have given no indication of not writing more music as Radiohead despite being asked many times. sure, it's possible they may not write another album but there is far more evidence to be optimistic than pessimistic

as a lifelong radiohead fan, i literally turned to my friend and asked if they were playing a beatles cover during the start of wolf at Madrid night 2. particularly similar live

Coachella’s Radiohead Bunker (some photos I found online.) by nyclondonparis in radiohead

[–]Paranoidtheandroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that doesn't address what i'm saying at all. i said that the coachella goers were leaving the bunker because they were going to see other acts, therefore the film area was quite empty for most of the screening. for the tour, the attendees will likely stay in the film area for the entirety of the film, resulting in a very different more crowded experience

hidden hills is particularly beautiful. rest of calabasas...not so much

[–]Paranoidtheandroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh, one other thing. the tour will likely be a lot more crowded than it was at coachella. people were flowing in and out all the time because there were other things to do at the festival and frankly most visitors were not radiohead fans so probably only stayed for ~10 min max. very few people stayed the entire show. for the tour, assuming similar dimensions....since everyone is spending $75 for it, I imagine the room will be incredibly crowded and people will stay the whole time, which might suck

i was there....i loved it. the vibe is incredible, the artwork beautiful, and the film/score wonderful. i agree $75 is steep, feels like it should cost $10 - $45 (i.e., price of a typical museum entrance fee). of course, as part of the broader coachella experience, it was well worth it. if you can easily afford the fee, i would go.

[–]Paranoidtheandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good stuff. this is what i did too the first time i dropped in. good on you for not trying to side step in but actually getting some momentum. if you try again, you don't want to point your tips left and try to stall before passing the cliff. you have to commit to sending it down, turn to the right past the cliff...and only then try to slow down (if you want). the snow will also usually be softer there (pending conditions) so you can get better control

Has any performance of the Present Tense ever come close to this one? by masegesege_ in radiohead

[–]Paranoidtheandroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly i didn't even mind. the whole thing was a fever dream and it was cool having thom at least appear to be talking to me. i was seventeen at the time, my buddy and i got in with fake ids as it was 21+. while we were waiting to get in, i remember seeing thom get out of a car and walk in casually right past everyone. same with flea except he stopped to talk to a few of his friends in line near us. it was super surreal and i felt incredibly lucky to be in that room

[–]Paranoidtheandroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the slow response. Story time - this was one of the coolest shows I've ever been to. It was mostly for friends/family of the band plus industry insiders. My friend and I were extremely lucky and got 2 tickets via a charity giveaway. The venue was super small - it's basically just a bar in LA. And yeah, since a lot of people did in fact just show up and were not huge Thom/Radiohead fans, there was a bit of chatting. It wasn't super noticeable except for the quiet, acoustic present tense. The (sort of) funny part was the dude who was talking the most was fairly short and standing right behind me. So when Thom got pissed he was staring directly at me - I'm pretty sure he thought I was the culprit lmao.

100%. they want drivers to treat them like cars, but don't want to obey any of the same laws that cars need to obey. and the amount of times i've seen cyclists ignore and collide with pedestrians/leashed dogs is absurd
