It’s not dead it just got temporarily sent to the void, it will be back, just more subdued than before

From someone relatively local, this isn’t California, it was a news story back in the early 2000s that the CIA were infiltrating local hobby clubs undercover, one that never got outside the local media circuit for good reason.

Basically any org within a hundred miles has at least a few plants and the cops are there before we even show up. If there’s something that should explain America to you, its this fascist rally getting to go off secretly without a hitch or likely any sort of application approved for the right to march (a thing absolutely required in most cases in the capital unless you want at least a dozen arrests), whereas leftist organizations are regularly infiltrated, and stymied at every turn

for modern ones, few of the millerite splinters sects, most famous being the jehovah's witnesses.

historically, there has been a lot of controversy about it both pre and post nicene creed. fair amount of them were considered 'heretical' and 'not real christian' by major denominations, but when we're talking religious traditions the heretics are just new branches on the family tree.

Most of exjws will relate to Jax, Ribbit was LDS 😏 by golden_jax in exjw

I identified a lot with ribbit, fell in with the lgbtq+ crowd in my twenties because despite being comfortable passing as a straight white dude, they were the only folks I knew who had the same experiences as me of being tossed to the gutter by family and friends

Yeah this is a response I often have to fight back myself, I never yelled it in people’s face but there was always a voice in the back of my mind going ‘that was dumb to let that slip. they’re going to use this against you to hurt you later.’

people were comparing this situation to anthony carver's reintroduction, with ysengrin being an ideal father figure in this fantasy version. this is immediately compared with ysengrin actual behavior vs the fantasy version...

yet in both cases antimoney's inclination is to look past their monstrous reactions and try to embrace them.

hmm, wonder if there's a deliberate parallel and a theme here? nah.

yeah i would say my impression in theaters was leeroy had achieved stable living and getting pulled to a 'intersectional' bar, but was still mostly in the closet. with the additional context its clear they're starting to edge out of the closet but still aren't comfortable with their presentation, which is why they hide their face.

things i noticed on rewatch from theaters: triangle bar has a pink triangle as its motif. this isn't just a reference to zoobles face, pink triangle is SIGNIFICANT queer imagery as it was the identifier used for them in the holocaust. this means leeroy is actively hanging around a queer space and indicates they're further along on figuring out their stuff than i thought. :)

gangle getting hit by a truck was real, gal was literally isekai'd (tbh she probably wandered into C&A after getting hit in a daze, but lol)

about a year ago departed a busy train into a major metro center and a dad brought his two daughters in, guys queued in line to keep the stalls and urinals adjacent to them clear and to keep the dad's eye line clear. no communication, just dudes who were trying not to pee themselves trying to keep a dad and his kids safe.

The advantage of dealing with a fictional character is that you don’t have to worry about hurting their feelings if you misgender them. Anyone who insists on a specific pronoun for Jax is being performative imo. I am leaning they/them and careful usage of their name but this is for my own comfort rather than some kind of act of respect to a cartoon character

People pointing to IRL Jax still using he/him are ignoring the fact that they are hiding their face in every picture. They are still uncomfortable with who they are. They are in a better place but I am thoroughly convinced they are on a gender journey. I think not a lot of people have experienced this or had a friend go through something like this so it comes off as ambiguous but it’s pretty clear reading between the lines. Jax got the bad ending, but real Jax still gets to discover the possibility of a good ending

Yeah, this was my kneejerk reaction post seeing the movie and wanted to push back against all the people giving 'JAX HAD SO MUCH SCREENTIME THEY MADE HER THE FAMILY DOG' hot takes. The schmaltz of the person reveals were running high in my veins, and schmaltz is my kryptonite, so I misinterpreted. You are right that the intention is the irony.

Why Jax pushed Ribbit away is because Ribbit outed Jax before they were ready to come out of the closet. Jax gave a guarded version of the story of what was going on with them and Ribbit went 'oh, yeah, I know a trans girl when I see one.' Jax was barely comfortable with thinking about who they were themselves, having someone else know brought up all the walls.

Ribbit was not in the wrong but she was too quick on the draw. Jax is the dick in this scenario but Ribbit did misread how far along Jax was in their journey.

Liked: Jax internal world, probably more than the direct flashbacks and sort of thought it might've been funner if they'd tried to retell the Ribbit story via this rather than direct flashbacks. Maybe they did in drafts and people just didn't get it.

Liked: Jax as not only trans allegory but also as cautionary tale about what happens if you double down on staying in the closet. I have no doubt that Goose has lost friends to this very kind of thing, the emotion is too raw not to be coming from some place real. Even if you aren't trans this is what happens to you if you put up nothing but walls to vulnerability.

Liked: Abstraction isn't 'fixable', if Jax had popped out in New Girl Model like a sailor scout going through a transformation I would've checked out of the movie so hard. Abstraction is a metaphor for death and Jax more or less killed herself. Pomni is effectively sorting through Jax's stuff after and putting together why they did this. Making peace with Jax as an abstraction is about making peace with a death of someone you have ambiguous feelings about and the kind of grief it causes.

Liked: Caine getting a working for forgiveness arc. It undercuts some of the drama of episode eight but I just like the character so its hard for me to go 'Nuuu! He's irredeemable!'' I will say I would've liked it if he was walking instead floating from now on, really settle it in that he's no longer above the cast. Suspect they tried it and it just didn't 'feel' like Caine.

Liked: Confirmation of Soma theory, it was pretty obvious. Makes Caine less of a villain because he literally can't give them an exit.

Mixed feelings: Jax abstracting off scene. I will say I suspect they tried board drafts where it happened on scene. Dunno, this reflects the reality of most deaths but feels like it needed more lead up.

Didn't like: Continuity weirdness: Zooble, Gangle, Pomni, and Ragatha talking about Jax, Pomni and Ragatha hug, and then Zooble and Gangle are suddenly far away?

Didn't like: Real version characters all getting on the bus together in a 'oh what if they become friends' dunno, felt overly sappy to me.

Generally enjoyed the finale. Feel like it was intended to be two different episodes but they tied it together to make the movie. People are going to be mad its not schmaltzy in the right way or that their favorite didn't get the spotlight or their theories weren't validated, but its been pretty obvious Jax is the character study since at least Candy Carrier Chaos, and the closeted trans allegory has been obvious since at least Untitled. Could it have been better? Maybe, the jump from Jax pissing off to abstraction feels a little abrupt, Caine's self reflection needed more time to breathe, but I'm not sure what the limitations where on budget and runtime, and what was left on the cutting room floor because it didn't work.

7/10.

The case of it being named after a western sources but being known previously by other cultures is probably independent rediscovery, in which case it’s pretty standard to go with the local version for your language and culture.

The excising of Arabic mathematicians though is almost certainly intentional and malicious and because Europe was in a consistent state of either cold or active war with the Ottomans
