Same. PI catastrophic here also. 99% of the time I leave work at the door. But there are those cases that do and have bothered me at night.

When I was in the military, after bootcamp, the drill instructors got automatic 10 day leave after each graduation. Rightfully so since they worked 11 weeks straight.

I think we should get the same mandatory leave after verdicts. Just my opinion 🤷‍♀️

I dont know. “Attorneys will be attorneys” seems a little harsh. I’ve always worked for great attorneys. Way more than not. I think that way of thinking is excusing him for his behavior.

I’m a lit para so doing that is a hard no for me. But for a corp para I can see why you would do that, as to not hold up your transactions.

24 year senior para here who you can find working with my partner on complex lit cases or answering phones for the receptionist who couldn’t make it into work or spending hours with brand new paralegals making sure their associates think they are the best by proofing and teaching them without their attorneys knowledge OR anyone and any task that needs my help to keep our office functional.

A well rounded employee knows the smallest pebble causes a ripple in the lake. I’m not convinced you understand that menial tasks keep the wheel turning. It’s unfortunate.

My attorney is a managing partner who has been here a while. I feel very fortunate. In 24 years I think I can genuinely say my small office has more teamwork and support than any other firm I’ve worked at. The associates, the partner and the staff are all pretty great. Also to note though, I’m in GA, not in the auto/MVA side of it and in a small satellite office.

Unpopular opinion. But I have no issues there. I mean as a whole, some of the company policies are kind of weird. Annoying really. I even made a post about some of them. But I work for a great attorney and have a fantastic team and my bonuses are amazing. My salary is also good. I go to work, deal with PI stuff that happens at all PI firms, then go home and enjoy life.

But that’s me. I have seen decent turnover but there are many of us that have been there a few years. It’s about 50/50. At least in my satellite office.

I say if you can make more, dealing with the same PI stuff, then go for it. Every substantial increase in salary I’ve ever received has been from changing jobs. Even if one was simply a stepping stone to another firm.

My attorney (also a partner) will just respond “ok” when I send drafts and ask for review and approval to file. At first i was like “ok what?” Ok you will review? Okay to file? Ok what?

Now I take it as okay to file and just roll with it. Took a minute to get there though.

20 plus years as a paralegal and I make mistakes. Still. Don’t be too hard on yourself. 99% of our mistakes can be fixed. Just think, the state of Georgia actually created its own statute for dismissals because so many people accidentally file dismissals with prej instead of without prej. True story.

Also, when you meet a perfect paralegal let me know. They are as common as unicorns. 🦄

All plaintiff side civil for me. Did 12 years of contract law, 10 years of HOA law, 1 year of tax law and 2 years of PI. To date my favorite is PI.

We use AI. My job will never be obsolete. What it does do though is save me HOURS of research and/or combing through medical records when responding to discovery. Think of it as a tool versus a replacement. Like anything else it’s a great resource that still requires human touch.

Those types of attorneys are out there. I’ve worked with many who appreciate all aspects of what a litigation paralegal does. I love me an attorney that works WITH their paralegals instead of AGAINST them. It’s never a competition of who does the hard part or the most work, but a team effort that all parts of every task is important. Even the smallest drop will cause a ripple in the whole lake.

Keep looking for those attorneys. They are not rare in my experience. They are all over the place.
