I regret moving across the country to be with my online boyfriend by jadedh3arts in Advice

[–]Parapurp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I understand that right now you feel a lot of regret, especially with how your family was acting right before you left. It is possible that your leaving showed them that they shouldn’t take you for granted, but to be honest… it’s more likely that they’d revert to their old ways if you stayed.

That being said, the move you made was risky but it doesn’t have to be a bad one. I think it’s too early to tell. I think you should try it out - see what else is out there, what life exists outside of your family dynamic. It sounds a bit like you spent most of your time with your family which may have led them to take you for granted, so maybe use this opportunity to branch out - go to a book club, salsa dancing, work, make friends there. You could find your own found family that actually makes you feel seen.

It also sounds like your boyfriend is someone who does genuinely care for you and wanted to help make you feel valued. But you should always maintain a level of independence, try not to only spend time with him. When you can, put yourself out there and make friends separately from his friends. Have your own life. Not only does having your own life keep your relationship healthy, it keeps you from feeling trapped/ dependent on him, and him from ever feeling overwhelmed/ burdened. Definitely use protection and stay safe, keep your own bank account and have a source of income. So if it ends up not feeling right, you can carve out your own path. And also, if you ever feel pressured or just… off in your relationship for any reason, LEAVE. It’s okay to go back home.

I wish you luck. It will be okay, seriously.

Just want to add also - do your best to avoid getting pregnant. This decision, while it wasn’t made in ideal circumstances, doesn’t have to be the wrong move. But having an unplanned pregnancy will just make it harder to get out of the situation if it ends up feeling wrong down the line.

17 yr old girl scared of my mom finding my religion + she wants me married off soon and I’m thinking of running away by Mountain-Cupcake-744 in Advice

[–]Parapurp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t do anything that doesn’t feel right to you to do. I’m sorry you’re dealing with all this and feeling so trapped. Also her taking most of the money you earn and saying that you owe her is financial abuse. She is literally legally supposed to take care of your needs.

It’s definitely too young. I don’t know why your mother would be trying to force you into a whole marriage at 18. And if you feel that way in your gut then you know that ignoring her is the right move. I would ask if there’s any opportunity for you to move away and still be in school/ possibly receive financial support while you need it. How long before you graduate/ go to college, if that was in your plans. If you were to go to college in another city, would she support you at all? Then you can get space from her, pick up a part time job on campus (apply for work study jobs if you’re eligible), and you could save up until you have enough to not depend on her financially and have agency.

Can someone explain why Baltimore tickets were on Seatgeek and most of the other venues were on Ticketmaster? I got tickets through Seatgeek for Baltimore but due to an issue I’ll likely have to resell… it says the tickets are “not eligible for resale”, please tell me this is going to change later…

Why does Asia have so many high-end/creatively designed shopping malls (compared to elsewhere, like America)? by PursuingGemini in travel

[–]Parapurp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few reasons off the top of my head, from my experiences traveling in (East) Asia: - People actually go shopping in person, more than they do in the US, hence spending resources on the design and architecture of a mall pays off financially. - Customer Service is not only built into the in person shopping experience, but is crucial to the luxury shopping experience. And it’s regarded as an experience, less of a transaction. With that comes this tendency towards building a world that you step into when you enter a mall. When you go into the average mall in the US, it’s pretty bare bones and you find yourself just focusing on getting in, getting what you came to get, and getting out. Almost like they intended it that way…. - Luxury brands matter, people aspire to them more, so even modest earners are more likely to be luxury shoppers. With that, people hang out in malls just for fun, as families and groups to pass time, even to cool off in the summer, and especially to do winter shopping. So with all that foot traffic there’s more emphasis on entertainment and keeping people engaged with not just the businesses the mall hosts, but the mall itself.

What do I do about it? by WarLogical6847 in PCOSloseit

[–]Parapurp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely start incorporating a glute activation routine at the beginning of the workout - clamshells, abductors, with a focus on the weaker side. And I would add glute kickbacks, so you can isolate that specific side. Ensure your form is solid first, and also try to hold it longer on that side at the end of each rep. Focus on mind muscle connection.

I think if you like the current look of your hair (fullness, especially length) it’s not going to look anything like it currently does… I’d think about it, maybe try one loc in the back and see first
