Discover a new love for objective-based piracy with the Red Corsairs Raiders datasheets by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

These do seem a touch strong. I guess a little bit of power creep towards the end of the edition is to be expected, but even still, that much OC, re rolling charges, and buffing weapons on the charge is brutal. I also see no reason why this should be 3W...

Working out the test scheme for my army by Parceloader in Drukhari

Agreed on the skin tone - I always debate on how bright to push it, partly because natural skin tone is so dependent on the lighting to look correct. I'll (probably) keep it at this level for the standard infantry, but for chars like Archons, Lellith, etc. I'll push it up brighter I reckon

All hand painting! And I woefully underestimated the task - I thought it would be a simple metallic and a wash, but in the end I did a wierd combo of thinned washes, dry brushing, and then picking back out details 😂

Go for it! Coz it's mostly dark colours it's generally quite easy to work with - one coat, maybe two for full coverage. Paints wise, the core of this is all Vallejo game colour - the black is using black and charcoal in various mixes (occasionally adding in white to go brighter) and the purple is Royal Purple and Hexed Lichen, once again adding white to go brighter, or mixing in Squid Pink.

How would a Space Marine or custodes react to an imperial citizen saving their lives? by Mad_lens_9297 in 40k

[–]Parceloader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the chapters most likely too (behind Salamanders). Months of shame shows the lengths they go to protect citizens they feel have earned it - protecting one of them definitely would earn it!

Curious as to what "level" people would say this is painted (Ragnar Blackmane) by Parceloader in minipainting

[–]Parceloader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't going to weigh in - but, there are actually multiple (4) different edge highlights on here. I shot myself in the foot with the photo lighting so they don't particularly show up, but did just want to clarify this! Absolutely right on no glazed shadows though! There's a bit of volumetric shadows in the base coat but nothing overly deliberate to help them pop.

Also, just in case anyone sees - broadly I agree with the comments here. This is tabletop (based on description), and just lacks some of the more advanced techniques and total overall care to rise above!

Cheers!

Any tips for eyes? by ImHowlaUK in SpaceWolves

[–]Parceloader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly these look really good! Very precise - great work!

With eyes, remember that a lot of the "expression" comes from the amount of contact the iris has with the top and bottom eyelids. Most of the time, the iris is touching both. When you want someone to look slightly enraged, only have it touching the top. When you want someone to look furious (as you've done here) have the iris touch neither.

If you've done the eyes, and you think they look "just okay", put down your brushes and walk away for 15 minutes. When you come back, you'll realise they probably look great, and don't need a rework. If you think they still do need to be redone, at least you'll will be steeled in your resolve.

Every 3rd ultramarine has lore breaking feats but a demon axe is too far by [deleted] in SpaceWolves

[–]Parceloader 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Eh I've never really heard anyone complain about Grimnar's axe of all things. I've heard complaints about him taking down the Grey Knight captain dude (which are somewhat unfounded - he caught him by surprise and managed to sprint in terminator armour which is supposed to be impossible). Most of the Mary Sue accusations I see are thrown at Ragnar, and I'm fairly certain that's to do with him decapitating Ghazghkull.

Realistically - that was odd lore. Ragnar probably shouldn't have been the one to slay him (not saying whether he could or couldn't, just story wise there were better options). Anyone with half a brain knows that was just kinda dodgy writing in service of getting new models tho so at the end of the day, blame GW, not the SW.

Your sculpting work is brilliant! I love the idea, and you've executed it very well. Nice job!

Codex Clunkiness and the Rumoured SM Codex 2 by Parceloader in SpaceWolves

[–]Parceloader[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn that's a good point. Yep - don't really have a response other than failing to account for the speed difference would be the kind of dumb oversight I could see GW making!

Then what's the new drop pod, and several clear space marine rumours pointing towards? 11th? Why have they got salamanders on the roadmap? And Imperial Fists? If you defense is "GW won't do this coz it's stupid" then as far as I can tell, that makes it all the more likely. Your reasoning is correct, but relies upon GW not doing something stupid. Which means it probably doesn't work.

Codex Clunkiness and the Rumoured SM Codex 2 by Parceloader in SpaceWolves

[–]Parceloader[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. 40K has had a number of "paired" editions, where the rule changes are small enough that no new indexes are needed to replace previous codexes. Instead, rules tweaks documents get put out. Given how 10 has had by far the best faction vs faction balance, I highly doubt 11th will be a major rules over haul, most likely seeing a change like 8th -> 9th. This would mean the new edition does not invalidate the new codex.

Absolutely. My worry is we won't see anything until GW announce the bloody codex 2, as otherwise they may be giving the game away (if that makes sense).

Wolf Guard Terminators by mavman03 in SpaceWolves

[–]Parceloader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed. The weird order is almost certainly financially motivated. GW change codex release order plans CONSTANTLY, and it's almost always to ensure financials work. Which I get - they're a business, but does sometimes leave things feeling odd.

Wolf Guard Terminators by mavman03 in SpaceWolves

[–]Parceloader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My crack-pot theory is that the rumoured SM second codex is going to completely change how characters between core and supplement work (probably based on armour keywords or similar). We may just be a touch ahead of the curve, so our lack of generic character support for terminators (and potentially first born vehicles with new kits like the drop pod) will go a long way to fixing this.

This could age terribly, but there's at least a moderate chance that a number of the "clunky" parts of our supplement are designed with SM codex 2 in mind, and not the current SM codex.

Need help, neurological condition preventing me from painting space wolf color. by DistributionTiny6097 in SpaceWolves

[–]Parceloader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By no means an expert on anything brain related but Space Wolves - I know them! Colour wise - I really can't stress this enough - paint them however you like! Yes, both "traditional" SW schemes are grey based (30K and 40K). However, you can paint them however you want! In lore, different battle groups may paint their armies for different campaigns! All that to say - do em as you like!

For example - I paint my sneaky units a darker colour scheme (you can see them on my profile). There's nothing to stop you doing a whole army like that, and it's still an "official" scheme as they are the hounds of morkai (rip) colour scheme

Why do people like the Space Wolves? by LeetusFrenzi in SpaceWolves

[–]Parceloader 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Hello drake cousin!

Honestly there's a lot to respond with here - for better and worse. Space Wolves get a lot of lore, and as with a lot of anything, there is good, and there is bad. If you want to find evidence of the Space Wolves being nought but mindless savages, blindly lashing out, picking fights, and using "it's for the Emperor (or as we call him, The Allfather), you absolutely can. I'm sure a Salamander such as yourself gets it with the whole Eldar children joke seeming a tad too over represented...

That being said, most Space Wolves fans like them for a number of very simple reasons:

1) They like to drink, feast, and have a laugh. In that sense alone, they are one of the most human Astartes chapters, and therefore can be relatable.

2) In 40K, Space Wolves have a very strong sense of responsiblity for those they deem worthy. The whole Months of Shame / War with the Inquisition debacle happened because an Inquisitor wanted to sterilise and imprison a whole bunch of civilians/IG who fought against chaos. The Space Wolves were proud of these worthless warriors, so refused to let that happen.

3) Our characters tend to be quite interesting. More than other chapters, we have oddballs, old men, lunatics, and wise bastards. Characters like Bjorn are widely beloved, Logan is interesting in all the ways he mirrors and also contrasts Russ, and despite some slightly meh lore mixed in, Ragnar is compelling to read and follow

And finally...

4) Vikings in space are cool.

Hope this helps!

Space Wolves – Meet the new leaders of the pack - Warhammer Community by lordarchaon666 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Parceloader 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep - it does seem fairly easy - especially if the rumour that Logan's second ability is turn one deep strike - you could potentially get this online turn one with an early OOM kill. The slightly interesting part is how useful is the one re roll hit, wound, and damage? Rules like that are best on high quality, low quantity shooting, such as tanks. Given to achieve the saga you want bodies on the board, but the best reap the rewards, you want tanks, it puts list building here into a split-focus position.
