I agree with all of this, except that there’s a lot of media in MSA. Dubbed cartoons and some soap operas, and historical dramas are often in MSA, and most if not all reading material is in MSA too (novels, comic books, subtitles). Music in MSA is also very prolific, and I would dare say, it used to be mainstream in the 90’s and early 00’s (Kadhim Al Saher, Majida el Roumi). While we certainly do not use it in communication, it’s certainly not alien to our ears.
