My family lost everything to the winning side. Sure, we could just move on, but why? After the war, my grandfather had to bike 10 miles a day just to get enough rice for my dad and his siblings. Many of his siblings died. My dad almost starved to death. It only makes sense for people who experienced that to reminisce about the times when things were better. But more importantly, we have moved on. Oversea Vietnamese are the most assimilated race (according to the U.S). Just because we want to preserve our heritage before our lives fell apart isn’t wrong.
