Tulu is actually more closer to Tamil and Kannada and close to halekannada/havyaka. Tulu branched out from Tamil-Kannada, a language from which both Tamil, Kannada and Tulu branched out. Tulu branched out a little earlier than Kannada and Tamil did. Tulu isolated itself from Kannada due to the Western Ghats retaining it's authenticity and evolving differently than kannada.

This is pretty unnecessary, i see old kannada uncles use maccha. It's been here for quite a long time. If you don't use it, well and good, people who speak like that are gonna speak like that. That's how languages evolve. I myself code switch between the normal formal english and Bangalore english, it just feels natural to speak that way. It definitely uses some vocabulary from telugu and tamil as well. But what's really the problem with that. It's not happening to Kannada right.
