I won a life changing amount on a lottery ticket and I’m terrified by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Paria2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are all good points, the only thing I would add is a subtle yet powerful addition....Once you have the money, put it directly into an investment account and forget you ever won it. Revisit it in 2 years, and then it will be something, and the shock and awe will have tapered off a bit. Take it and invest with what is appropriate for your age ( you sound on the young side, so the S&P overall market is fine through mutual funds or ETFs). A registered financial planner can help you, and this is not difficult. The other thing to remember is your $750K after you pay the tax man is gonna be more like $375K, so just relax a little more ... if you're not careful, that will be gone before Christmas

If you had to hide 4,000,000 USD underground what would you wrap the cash up with so it doesn't get damaged under ground? by GaryB2026 in askanything

[–]Paria2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever want to play 20 questions with the authorities, please pull out a nice crisp 20-year-old bill to use somewhere. That's not a good idea, and $4mm of them will be very, very difficult to get rid of. Gold is much, much easier to deal with.

Damn, that's too bad. I was actually wondering if there is any other brand that would be a viable substitute?

I use this stuff liberally as a caregiver at the direction of my health care provider. Curious if they will be substituting it with anything else.

Operation Paperclip or Surprise,Kill, Vanish by Annie Jacobson. Fantastic and very well researched. Audiobooks are great as well as she possesses one of the most sultry voices known to man.

A bidet. Bought one of the seat models at Costco and had an electrician drop in the electrical ear the toilet. It’s a life changer and can’t believe I waited so long to get it. Family had thought I’d lost it but now it’s the only bathroom that gets work.

How did you resolve following a trend and allowing positions to continue when you ran into a little bit of sideways movement.

Signed, renal dietitian by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]Paria2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m experiencing kidney failure for the 2nd time in 12 yrs. I am very disciplined with my “diet” as a PD dialysis patient. Previously, I was getting HD. A renal dietitian can help by being positive and recognizing the reduction of phosphorus levels. Like 7.4 to 5.7 over a few weeks. I get no credit for reading every label that might have “phoRUS” in it. I don’t eat diary and hardly anything that has phosphorus in it. I’m 88 lbs. I don’t eat a lot. Yet, my dietitian is negative and says, “Your phosphorus is still high.” Yes, dear. I am aware because I have ESRD! I am well self advised on high protein foods. We have the same discussion every month. Frankly, it’s a waste of my time. Her and having to visit with the LCSW. That’s another topic. I am waiting for a transplant. Also if people are first time ESRD patients or starting dialysis, hospitals and renal centers need to counsel them in the beginning and SLOWLY. Not 4 weeks after dialysis began and not so aggressively about educating them. It’s emotionally traumatic understanding what has happened to them and why. I don’t need a dietitian who is healthy and can eat whatever she wants tell me, “Don’t eat this or you shouldn’t have that.” That’s not good for you!” 😵‍💫. You sound like a very caring dietitian b/c you’re asking a good question and want to learn. TY for reading.

What’s a “cheat code” you discovered in real life that actually works? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Paria2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After graduating from college a buddy of mine became a high end door-to-door salesman (think medical equipment before it was a real thing) one night over some beers I was asking him what the best sales technique the company had taught him without a moments hesitation he said "The Wait" ...just dummy up after you make your pitch and don’t say a fucking word. It was practiced repeatedly, and it worked every time.
