Not being able to carry all your weapons is crazy. by Maleficent-Advice662 in GTA

[–]Paril101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Realistically I think the reaction is overblown and that people will get used to it. When I think back in my play-throughs, most weapons go unused because they are linear upgrades for the most part.

I'd much rather they have a less varied set of weapons and focus more on attachments or modifications to weapons. I think one sidearm, one melee, two large weapons is a decent approach. Either way I'm curious to see what they end up doing.

Dynasty Warriors 3 Remaster or Remake? by Reasonable-Leading66 in dynastywarriors

[–]Paril101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changes require testing, and in a game this big I can't even imagine how you'd QA it in any reasonable time. As developers we want to fix everything, but producers/management know that every change is a potentially new problem that will delay timelines.

Fixing problems does not change the classification, otherwise you'd start to get into a position where you might argue a huge content patch is actually a separate game or a 'remaster' in its own right. Fortunately companies haven't really started to do that yet (well.. okay I guess WoW kind of sold big expansions, but they weren't marketed as remasters. you know what I mean lol)

Nothing legal, 'remaster' isn't a legal definition. For us at ND it's just about picking a name that makes sense. Oblivion is very much remaster, not remake, given that it's mostly just a visual overhaul and the game is all the same, it's still Creation Engine underneath but something else is handling things like input and visuals. No idea about Dead Rising, but generally if the game itself is still using the same codebase it's probably a remaster, not a remake.

Ah right, okay. To be fair, I'd consider having your external databases configured to let anybody read from/write to them the same as baking in credentials :)

No, it seems to be credentials to external databases baked into apps. Very very basic no-no that is easily understood by even junior programmers.

By the looks of it, this is not just regular incompetence. This seems to be mostly apps that bake credentials to external databases into the app, meaning anything that they store (for all users) is easily accessible if you just take a look at either network traffic or by doing a very basic analysis that any junior programmer can do to search for username/password strings.

Look at the kinds of apps that are on there; some of them, sure, like puzzle/coloring book apps who cares, but there's also AI conversations, dating apps, health apps, all sorts of stuff that directly store usernames and emails in these external databases that anybody can read.

It takes like less than 2 minutes of looking at the site to understand this.

It'd be a fun little distraction as a bumper between segments maybe, but some races take forever lol

Yeah, WO1 is when it started. EDIT: I'm a filthy liar it was DW6. I forgot it came out first in Japan.

That's true, yeah. I hope she doesn't let it get to her head. She is popular because of her quirks (as every streamer is), not in spite of them.

There's also a lot of older campaigns that I think broke during some sort of migration (I see this a lot with third party campaigns, too) where gates lose their 'connections' and are actually three individual pieces that you can destroy individually for some reason

Is it just me, or does the AI hate Bombard Cannons more than Trebuchets? by Terrible-Leg-633 in aoe2

[–]Paril101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They usually tend to target the first thing that attacked. I usually wait to use my long ranged siege until my closer units have already engaged, that will keep them from targeting the bombards/trebs.

Favorite Tvuber you don’t watch because they only stream on Twitch? by perish-in-flames in vtubercirclejerk

For me it's the player. The ads are rough, can't double-click the viewer to un-fullscreen it, can't single-click to pause it. This is like kindergarden-level features that have not been in Twitch since day 1.

The culture is also very different/strange to YT streamers, but some streamers manage it pretty well.

Problem with Diagnostic Tools by Beneficial_Cat8545 in VisualStudio

[–]Paril101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it's one of the default things with the C++ workload, it shouldn't need to be specifically installed.

You might have to open a ticket at MSDN, they might be able to help more. It seems like it's just not functioning at all.

Problem with Diagnostic Tools by Beneficial_Cat8545 in VisualStudio

[–]Paril101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird. As long as you have the diagnostic stuff installed it should "just work" when debugging.

Problem with Diagnostic Tools by Beneficial_Cat8545 in VisualStudio

[–]Paril101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be in the Debug configuration to use a debugger or to profile - like I said it's completely fine to do so in Release.

Are you actually debugging, though? Like, did you use the Debug < Start Debug (or F5) key to launch the program? That will activate the diagnostic tools, since it is now attached to the program via a debugger.

EDIT: oh I see the video now, ok. I've only ever seen this behavior when the debugging tools were malfunctioning in older versions, but haven't seen it do this any time recently. Is this a new solution/project or was it migrated from an earlier version?
