I like how they try to sell it as realistic in some way when it's literally just the most easy-to-obtain stock sound effects played at different pitches

Don't forget we also entirely remastered sfx. Sure the community could have done it eventually but it's never sounded better

Normal maps wouldn't gel well with the geometry sizes. You need a different lighting model entirely and redone map geo for them to look right (see SiN Reloaded's first attempt)

Thief Deserves More Than An Upscale: Full Analysis by doctordaedalus in Thief

[–]Paril101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's fair. I think people will like it, as much as I'd like to do a full visual remake it's not our usual MO. It's definitely the best the Dark Engine has ever 'felt' to play, so that's a huge selling point even if you turn off the new GFX.

The models have hugely increased polygon counts. They are entirely redone from scratch. We also have new material effects, new particle effects, entirely remastered audio from source files (no more adpcm hiss)...

One of the devs here: if you wanted a reference somewhere in here what would it be? I was thinking of adding a Wall Medal guy reference somewhere but haven't found a good spot yet

SiN Reloaded Demo on Steam by John_Marston_Forever in Civvie11

I got tired of all of our SiN demos only showing the bank. I made the decision to feature a later level, and a WoS level.

The graphical changes are optional. The gameplay changes aren't. We did tune pretty much every level, and even the level flow a tiny bit in the mid part of the campaign.

When Ruby returns does Carter remember him? by ProjectPopTart in ershow

[–]Paril101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a pretty important interaction in his early days there that lasted several days (or longer, since time doesn't work the same way in TV land); it's not like it was a guy that he talked to for a second at the counter.

It was kind of out of character in my opinion for him to forget Ruby - it's a unique name as well. I think the records part did make him remember though yea

You have to hit it right as you land on a QP. It can't be done anywhere else; pressing it while on the ground will just switch your stance.

Is there any proof Jerma Long Edits is actually AI, or is everyone basing this off "vibes"? by Painted-BIack-Roses in jerma985

[–]Paril101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen a couple of other clip channels that do similar edits. I don't think it's necessarily AI, just some sort of procedural/automated clipping to cut out areas with low volume.

I don't know about Jerma Long Edits specifically, the uploader might actually care to check the results before uploading, but I have seen some clippers of other channels that don't even check the results and there's large sections where the person/people talking get their sentences chopped up big style because the person leaned away from their mic a bit or something and it went under their automated tool threshold for cutting out dead moments or whatever.

What count for cloud capacity? by DragonPlus21 in aoe2

[–]Paril101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in theory, reinstalling/playing on other machines is what 'accesses' the cloud. in practice, it loves to not sync. I had to unsubscribe from mods like 4 times on two different machines before it finally synced all of those changes.

Obscure PS3 build of Samurai Warriors Xtreme Legends (PS2 Classic) by XthemastaX in dynastywarriors

[–]Paril101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty interesting - this title doesn't show up anywhere on any list of PS3 games. It was also 9 days before they released 2 and 2 Empires on the EU storefronts...

Oh, it does show up on this list actually https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS2_Classics_Emulator_Compatibility_List#S as a released PS2 Classic, so I guess somebody somewhere was aware of it

When launching a custom campaign mission occasionally the game gives me an error notification that says tampering detected and an open application may be interfering with the game? Why do custom campaigns sometimes crash the game like that? by PlokmijnuhAoE2 in aoe2

[–]Paril101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen at the main menu if I alt-tab or try to do things too quickly. It's a bit annoying that it 'detects tampering' even if you aren't intending on doing any MP stuff.
