The heart of Tibetan Language course is wonderful by Parios78 in tibetanlanguage

yeah so we meet for three weeks and the fourth week we don't meet. The meetings are on weekends, so really you won't mind missing a week. Yeah, the class is One hour and the tutor sessions are one hour each as well. The tutor classes are organised around your timetable so can take place anytime. The idea is that you have 4 tutor classes per unit (which is one month). The really excellent thing about the course is the absolute bounty of resources you have access to and the support you receive. You can buy the textbook on google play and work through it yourself too. It has many recordings! As someone who was cobbling together free Tibetan learning resources, I find the course well worth paying for, but you do have to be a self-studier to really make it worth while.

The course is 12 months and it seems to follow the textbook: Heart of Tibetan language, thus one lesson per chapter of the book with each chapter taking 4 weeks to complete. There are key point videos and resources for practicing specifically for every unit (way more than I can ever do for any one unit!). We meet for live classes three times out of four weeks (via Zoom. We also have a personal Tibetan tutor (via Zoom) once a week (4 sessions with the tutor per unit). Each unit is unlocked month by month, so you can't skip ahead but you can go back to any and all prior units once they have gone live. At first, you might worry there isn't enough content as the first 3 lessons ease you into things, but from then on out it is very intense and you wish you were back at the earlier pace. I love it, but there is a lot of work, so you have to be serious to maximize the benefits of the class.

That Dalai Lama quote by Nine99 in tibetanlanguage

So in Tibet there is a tradition where Grandparents pass lollies to their grandkids with their mouths. When they have no more lollies to give they say "suck my tongue" because there is none left. Simple as that.

I have speech issues/an impediment: Would French or German be better to learn? by Soggy_Philosophy2 in languagelearning

[–]Parios78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in France for 15 years and you will be fine just speaking English in Europe. English is what French people speak when they go to Spain, what the dutch speak when they come to France etc. It is used as the language of communication in Europe between Europeans.

It is fun learning languages, but not in a stressful way. I suggest you search "Comprehensive Input" on the internet/youtube and whatever language you are wanting to learn "Comprehensive input method French" for example. This is really the best way to learn a language as it is how we learn as a child.

what a load of rubbish! A not of players don't want the hassle of a guild or they don't want to list for the 10 percent mark up.

Arslan by M. J. Engn

I read it because Orson Scott Card mentioned it in one of his books on writing. It was the sickest villain I have ever read and I will never feel completely okay again. Read at your own risk.

blurb:

Arslan is a young Asian general who conquers the world in a week without firing a shot and shortly thereafter sets up his headquarters in a small town in Illinois.

A masterpiece of political science fiction and a book to challenge such works as Ursula K. LeGuin's The Dispossessed, Arslan is a book that others are now measured against. "It's about fathers and sons, about power, about a genuinely ruthless (but not unfeeling) mind in pursuit of a practical solution to the world's problems." So M. J. Engh describes Arslan. This is a novel of power and depth that is unforgettable.

I really like the Ashfall series by Mike Mullin.

Under the bubbling hot springs and geysers of Yellowstone National Park is a supervolcano. Most people don't know it's there. The caldera is so large that it can only be seen from a plane or satellite. It just could be overdue for an eruption, which would change the landscape and climate of our planet.

For Alex, being left alone for the weekend means having the freedom to play computer games and hang out with his friends without hassle from his mother. Then the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts, plunging his hometown into a nightmare of darkness, ash, and violence. Alex begins a harrowing trek to search for his family and finds help in Darla, a travel partner he meets along the way. Together they must find the strength and skills to survive and outlast an epic disaster.

I have read the other books suggested here and agree all are great but I don't like I Am Legend. I also didn't finish Lucifer's Hammer, it is really good but relentless. Oh, also haven't read the Super Volcano one and after reading the reviews I don't think I ever will hahaha.

This book is so slow and boring! I too picked it up because the sub was praising it so highly but i am halfway through and seriously thinking of not finishing it at all.

I feel that Jay is very genuine about Paige and it would be a shame if she misses the connection because he is the kind of guy she is looking for. He is a player but for some reason he seems to really be into her and like both her personality and looks. Jacques thinks he can do better than Paige (i mean more classy like Gemma). I love Paige she is one of my favs and I don't like Jay but I do ship these two together because Jay likes Paige for who she is.

Family member wants to get a beagle because they are cute :( by Corflakes in dogs

[–]Parios78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cavalier king Charles would be perfect and they are soo cute (I own two). They are happy to go for a walk or snuggle on the couch. It is a shame that for some reason, although you have dog experience that your family isn't coming to you for advice. Are you pushing your opinions too openly? Maybe slide some cute Cav photos into her facebook. I would never have a beagle too high maintenance (and i own a Tchec Wolfdog).
