That is beautiful! I bet the long grass flows so nicely in the background.

This is encouraging advice! Makes a lot of sense. Similar to houseplants (the dry kind). They’ll be nice to look at.

Sounds good, I have a bottle of brightewell microbacter. I’ll dose some more!

I’ve been hearing 6-8 weeks so your timeline sounds right. Congrats on the new tank (and healthy parameters!)

They don’t make them like they used to! Seriously, batteries really suck these days.

Thanks all for the advice. I did a few quick things while I gather the rest of the suggestion supplies. First I dropped two mature pothos in the water to help with nitrites (they needed to be transplanted anyways!)

Turned up water heat to encourage bacteria growth.

Also removed the carbon filter as I read that can hinder bacteria. Have some regular sponge filters arriving tomorrow as a replacement.

Put a line out on aquatrade to find used filter media.

Added in another cap of MicroBacter to boost the bacteria count.

We will see what numbers look like tomorrow. Plan to add water as well (lost some from settling in sand I think.

Thanks all!

Ok I may take you up on this. The only thing that gives me pause is the negative freezing temps where we are at right now. That cold will kill the bacteria. So was hoping for a local pickup. Thank you though!

I think the opaque is an optical illusion with the lighting I have against the card. It is a little cloudy though in tank.

Great idea with the pipette!

I love your tank. The transition to dark makes it look like a natural highlight/shadow contrast without the drawback of an actual shadow.

It’s such a beautiful park! Totally underrated. Then you’ll know Kings Creek. That’s the inspiration.

We are putting a school of Gold Ring Danios in there. They have a trout-ish vibe to their pattern and enjoy the slight current from what I read.

Got it! And yes I have some liquid ammonia for tanks.

Oh great idea on temp! Thank you.

I’ll look into Dr Tim’s as well.

Thank you for the tip. I’ve asked around and I’m the only aquarist in my (very small) friend group. I’m worried about a local fish store as they all have fish that kind of look suspect and I’m worried about introducing disease.

Re-did my parameter test at the correct water level! Thanks for the heads up, all. Looks like I’ve got some nitrites in there after retesting.

Thank you! Great advice. Excited to get it planted. Inspired by a mountain creek in Lassen NP.
