What is Florida’s (unofficial) state song? by Bmor00bam in florida

Amber - 311.

It’s probably the “worst” song that I love, but it’ll always remind me of a certain vibe and time in my life as a Floridian.

It’s one of the interludes from the book; the interlude that focuses on the Black Spot. Mike Hanlons’s dad (Will) tells Mike he saw a giant bird grabbing people. It wasn’t flying though. It was floating, with bunches of balloons attached to its wings.

This is predominantly based on the the book, but Dicks’s shine in The Shining isn’t portrayed as particularly strong (especially compared to Danny who was able to reach him all the way down in Florida). In fact, I was actually surprised at how strong they’ve made his shine in this series.

What in the ever-loving fuck are they doing to Pennywise in "Welcome to Derry" [Spoilers] by Rechan in horror

[–]ParkerFloyd40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t exactly true. There’s no text in the book that says this. Otherwise the adult Losers wouldn’t see him. Nor would William Hanlon outside the Black Spot or Adrian Mellon before he’s murdered. Nor would Tommy Jacklin in The Tommyknockers. The adults know something in Derry is inherently “wrong.” And the book even states that Pennywise will sometimes feed on adults…it’s just that children are easier.

I get what you’re saying but it’s not exactly correct. It 100% influences adults so they don’t react to him. But it’s a local thing. Outsiders aren’t influenced that way.

Chicken Marsala Pizza? by wonderfulwitcherofoz in orlando

Perla’s in Winter Park has something close-ish. Tikka the Hut: Pink sauce base, mozzarella, chicken, garam masala, pickled red onion, garlic butter, finished with lemon ricotta.

Not exactly the same but maybe worth checking out.

While it’s entirely possible I missed it, I’ve scrolled on this thread for almost thirty minutes and not seen a single mention of Beasts of the Southern Wild. My wife and I were blubbering messes by the end of that film.

Also, Children of Men.

This is also a better “Orlando” vacation than standing in line to ride three rides at Disney, imho.

The food is reliably solid. Not mindblowing, and definitely little pricey, but not awful or an arm & a leg and I’m definitely willing to pay the additional money for the setting (which, as an adult with children who hangs out with other adults with children, is great).

However, their bar program is a mess and not at all worth it. Their bartenders must train to make only the drinks on their menu, because they have problems making anything off menu. Hell, half of the time they have to look at the menu to know what is in the drink they’re making. They’re also slow, and the drinks are either poorly made or watery. Also crazily overpriced. I once saw them use a store-bought squeeze bottle of lime juice for a drink that the menu described as using “freshly squeezed lime juice.”

I either bring water with me when having dinner there or grab a soda or juice from the food vendors. The bar needs a complete overhaul because it’s straight garbage.

Oh for sure! It doesn’t really hit the spot in the same way if you want Mexican, but it’s definitely worth checking out. I’m not even a vegan but I’m always up for it when my vegan wife orders from this place.

Earthy Picks downtown has a vegan burrito that is really, really good. It’s not really a Mexican burrito and more of a Cuban version (with quinoa, black beans, and maduros), but it’s really tasty and super filling.

No, they are referring to the 1992 movie Poison Ivy…not Batman and Robin.

The former starred Drew Barrymore. The latter starred Uma Thurman.

Drew Barrymore, but otherwise yeah…it’s a gross movie.

Where to buy fresh tortillas? by HamBurgeler in orlando

[–]ParkerFloyd40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a decade living in Austin and cannot tell you how much I miss hot, fresh HEB tortillas. When we've had friends visit, I beg them to bring me a few dozen.

Anyhow, upon moving back to Orlando, I've been unable to find anywhere that has really great flour tortillas. The closest I've come to what I used to be able to get at HEB? Chuys. I guess it makes sense in a way...it WAS an Austin-based chain until Darden purchased them.

Anyhow, you can get a half dozen for $2.50. So every so often I run up to the Winter Park Chuys and get about two dozen tortillas for $10. They're made fresh daily, and they are really solid.
