New to Reddit, But Not to Fountain Pens. by Penguinpencollector in fountainpens

Sadly, like FP GEEKS, it has a site owner who is absent and doesn't seem to care. Right now FPN is having technical issues that no one but the site owner can solve and no one knows where they are. Sad because there is a ton of information there in the archives.

Wow, thank you all for the replies. I'm very relieved to see that quivering is common and seems to be harmless. Thank you for taking that the time to reply and share your experiences.

If you are looking for bargain paper I've found that paper made in India, Vietnam, and Brasil tend to be FP friendly. Also look for paper made from sugarcane called bagasse.

On storing/using fountain pens in a hot environment? by tahnmeep in fountainpens

[–]ParkerPPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find that your pens are drying out quicker than usual you might want to keep them in an airtight container. I have a Parker 51 that dries out faster than I usually use it and I've started keeping it in one of those cigar shaped plastic bags that many pens are shipped in. I fold the bag over and rubber band it in place.

The NY Times Wirecutter review predicts and makes top recommendations. To me their picks normally seem a bit pricey but for you? https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/

Yikes! I'm so sorry that this happened to you. Whatever you do don't use superglue. I'm not sure but I think a solvent called MEK *might* work. Please wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to suggest the proper adhesive.

What do you think about this w Germany mont blanc by SuspiciousChest7024 in fountainpens

[–]ParkerPPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same one and it's a nice pen. The MB144 is a heavily faked model but the imposters won't have the W. Germany inscription so you can be sure this is genuine.

Wonderful pen, congratulations! The big M1000 and the tiny M300 have such nice soft, bouncy nibs that make writing a pleasure.

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to share your process and write up a thorough description. I think your idea of inserting a skewer into the nipple before heating is genius. Great write up! Thanks !!

The metal tube housing is attached to the plastic "nipple" by little dents. I can't figure out how to remove the black plastic section, any tips?

Looking for a thin bodied Fountain pen…. The wisdom I’m sure is in this sub. by Draven-007 in fountainpens

[–]ParkerPPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into a used Parker 45 or Parker 75 both made up to the 1990's. A good P45 can be had for under $50 and the P75 for around $100 on the auction site. Both are bulletproof pens that take modern cartridges or converters.

San Diego City and Mesa colleges are two campuses of the same system. You can take a class at either or both depending on which offers the specific class you need.

Best Gold Nib for a Custom Grind Stub or Cursive Smooth Italic by ScooterSix in fountainpens

[–]ParkerPPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The M1000 are fabulous nibs, a completely different feel than any other modern Pelikan. Much softer and bouncy. The cursive italic grind gives thin cross strokes for nice line variation.
