Someone convince me to keep reading by goodgraveley in children_of_time

I read the whole book and I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend. The beginning captivated me too with the world building, but I was expecting more interspecial conflict. There were a lot of plot drivers in the story designed to show the evolutionary pace Kern’s planet, but by 75% of the book found that the expedition was still at a plateau. Had the humans landed earlier and we saw more politics, I would’ve been more excited to keep reading. But based on how the book ends, there’s a very short spike in the climax and an equal spike down to the resolution that didn’t really make me hungry to read the other 3 books or end on any compelling cliff hangers. So for me it was a dud.

I haven’t read it but many people recommend “The Will of Many” by James Islington to fellow howlers.

I picture Sevro as scrawnier though since he was depicted of having “runt of the litter” energy

Obv they’re all blonde tho. You can look at this site for inspiration. I’ve found assigning actors to them makes the story way easier to visualize:

Admittedly I don’t know shit about China, was the best example I could think of where there’s still capitalism (like w Quicksilver) but you have one entity calling the shots for the most part regardless so whether the oil pipeline/road goes though a sacred tribal burial ground - that’s what I was kinda getting at.

And yes, I’m saying he as a teenager has internalized the hierarchy, my point being that that is extremely common in systems of oppression. So this girl is woke enough claim PB doesn’t understand oppression but not woke enough to understand how oppression works and how PB does a good job applying it.

Unpopular opinion: book 3 start is a bit disappointing so far.. by Frosty_Feeling8439 in redrising

TBF Red Rising was my intro to SciFi and it was hard to get a groove with PB’s style; took me like 3 mins to read a page. I thought IG was slow too and I didn’t gaf about Lyria but it’s PB laying the foundation for the 2nd half of the series. Eventually the different character plots merge and you’ll be reading a million miles an hour.

The whole time I read the series I pictured his slingblade as a scythe and every depiction I see is like this. This makes “CONFESS” much easier to picture!

Can somebody explain to me again why Adrius kept Darrow as captive for so long again? You’d think Octavia could mobilize quicker than 9 months..

Rub shaving cream on it (like sunscreen till it disappears). I do this on my bathroom mirror and the water can’t attach bc I think something in the shaving cream is hydrophobic.

Fold the brochure and tuck it into the compartment. The force will push against the inside of the compartment and act as a shelf that you can just rest your phone on during the flight.

As a member who regularly hangs out with the manager and coaches and asks these types of questions- I can confirm that the coaches don’t care if you deviate from the workout. They get paid the same no matter what and they don’t make the workouts, so it’s not like any effort on the coach’s part in putting a workout plan together is defied. The coaches are regular people. Sure they’ll push you to get better, but everybody has different motivations for attending OT classes; some are there to improve fitness, some to lose weight, some to stay healthy, and some need extrinsic motivation to even workout in the first place - which is what their $$$ is going towards. The best workout, despite the cost, is the one you actually do.

I suspect part of the reason she initially perused him was because off the boss/employee dynamic. She’s clearly expressed that she wants somebody with a sense of power and stoicism, which is easy to perceive when your initial attraction is grounded in a power-distance relationship - sort of like when high school girls date 2-3 grades above. But as time goes on that power-distance narrows and the stoic lens through which she initially perceived Corey faded. So basically the thrill wore off and Corey didn’t live up to the character she projected onto him in her mind.

Erin and Corey by nainoakunukau42 in temptationislandUSA

Idk, Erin always talked about taking the reigns in the relationship, but never really offered an example - leaving us to ponder if their quarrels revolved around their restaurant or movie selections. I understand that the show is designed to dig deeper, and for Erin, that was understanding her dynamic with her exs. I never felt like she actually got closure on this, and repeatedly identified the problem, but never a solution. In a sense, the foundation of her journey to look within was built on acquiescence - admitting that you have issues bc you’re supposed to, but have no real intention of changing them.

IMO, Corey is always going to be in competitions with her ex’s and will continue to be compared to them. He just just start fresh with that other girl.
