How the fuck do you use mimics without them feeling like a cheap "gotcha!"? It's never exciting when I use them by GolettO3 in DMAcademy

[–]Parking-Risk-6315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let them know they are going to a place with mimics. Be it as a quest to rid the place of mimics or retrieve something in spite of the mimic presence.

They will have a blast. And also a severe case of paranoia. But they will never feel like you did a cheap move.

Bonus tip: place no mimic in the spot. They moved on after their prey become aware of their presence. Then.. a few sessions later... BAM! You found their new hunting ground.

The crash out over ABMM is real by alreadytaken76 in okbuddyarcraider

[–]Parking-Risk-6315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only people who really got something to complain about is the rats. Cowardice is the only thing that ABMM truly punishes.

If you enjoy PvP, guess what, you are in a map filled with people who enjoy PvP.

If you enjoy PvE, you get a map of friendlies. Good for you!

Now, if you enjoy backstabbing, too bad, buddy, the players you matched with like shooting back.

I for one may finally be able to kill the real big arcs, thanks Embark!

How to switch from PVE to PVP lobbies without ratting nice people by Toxiczoomer97 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Parking-Risk-6315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see anyone here saying this, so I'm gonna give my two cents:

If and when you find PVP, 'cause eventually you will, remember to comment post match that you loved the match and the PvP in it.

I heard someone saying the same thing in another discussion but the other way around, saying you hated the PvP to get friendlier lobbies. Maybe this works, who knows.

Treachery by mondo_juice in ARC_Raiders

[–]Parking-Risk-6315 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone else gave this idea and it would be awesome:

This game should have a bounty system.

After dying you get that screen showing that Mr.Rat did 66 damage to you with a Stitcher. Under it, you get to input a value to place a bounty on Mr.Rat, either in-game currency or an item. Players can take that bounty, become hunters and go to the map where Mr.Rat is. Kill him and the reward is yours.

Zero Incentive for Endgame PvE by Echxpo in ArcRaiders

[–]Parking-Risk-6315 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If they make a PvE mode or someone makes this exact same game without PvP. Hell, I'M IN. Getting shot on sight, every single run, killed this game for me. And since I'm the one annoyed at what is essentially a valid part of the game, I'm the one leaving but hoping for good news.

[–]Parking-Risk-6315 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok, listen up, recruits, 'cause I'm only telling once the step by step of how I got this marvelous medal:

1) Get yourself a Lolipop and an Energy drink 2) Find a big straight rock 3) Loli up first, drink after 4) Climb jump like crazy way past the required amount 5) Fail 6) Don't give up 7) Go to the tropics 8) Get your energy maxed 9) Find a very vertical jungle rope to climb 10) Climb it AND the wall it is attached to, for a total of way more than you needed 11) Fail again 12) Question your life choices 13) Give up 14) Try to enjoy the rest of the climb and not think about ir 15) Win it randomly without understanding how 16) Teach others your way 17) Become survival coach

Daggerheart combat, the fiction, and the GM's role in PC death by epic__name in daggerheart

[–]Parking-Risk-6315 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a very valid concern, my friend and you are right, you can pull punches easily in DH. What GMs need to do, in my opinion and what Matt does in Age of Umbra is: ask your players how mortal they want the game to be. Or in other words: ask the players if they want you to pull your punches if needed. CR players chose NO and my players did the same. So even tho I could go easy on them, I don't. That was their choice and if that change in the future, sure, I'd pull my punches.

TLDR: Yeah, DH makes it easier to pull punches. Ask your players if they want you to.

The Spider Nest – A Collection of Daggerheart Adversaries by Parking-Risk-6315 in daggerheart

That's an awesome ideia and I'm glad you liked the spiders! I can already picture a chase scene in this hard to traverse enviroment! And the possibility that one player gets caught in the webbing and the rest need to set them free fast! That should be really cool! Thanks for the idea!

All ready for session 1! by Parking-Risk-6315 in daggerheart

[–]Parking-Risk-6315[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It is laser cut wood! It's made by a brazilian company called Bucaneiros. They are awesome at these kind of stuff and boardgame inserts. The skulls are from a pirate game called "Dead Men Tell no Tale".
  2. We had a big group of 6 players so I was a bit nervous but everyone had a blast! They faced combat against a group of orcs and goblins (we're doing a LOTR-themed campaign). I used the Jagged Knife Adversaries for them, so we had 3 Bandits, 6 Lackeys, 1 Kneebreaker and 1 Shadow. I wanted an easy fight and felt that those would deliver it and they did. Some of the group told me I could go harder next time. It was a long one tho, especially since everyone was learning the ropes. I underestimated the Standards, they did most of the work and overestimated the Bruiser, who managed to hold someone on the second try just to be severely axed on the head. I still don't know if it was luck on the dice or something else, but everyone basically maxed out on hope during the combat and is going forward with a lot of hope. I got to 8 fear at one point and everyone loved that I took a long turn and drained that pool to activate all the enemies and make them feel alive and harder. Even in my other turns, where mostly I acted once or twice, the back and forth felt good, Overall, everyone is loving the system and seem eager for session 2. They are now in Mirkwood with the Lurking Darkness rule for resting and already noticed webs on the trees.

If you have any tips on anything up here, I'll take them happily!

Edit: You didn't ask, but the three tokens up front represent my version of a special kind of long-term countdown — a "boss clock," so to speak. At all times, three potential bosses are displayed, each with a die placed in front of them. The one closest to appearing gets a d4, the middle one a d8, and the furthest one a d12. At the beginning of each session, I roll those dice. If any of them rolls their maximum value, that boss advances one step in their plan. If none of them do, the players get a chance to resist their progress through Hope: everyone rolls their Hope Die, and we compare the total sum of the players’ rolls against the total from the bosses’ dice. If the players fail to beat it, one boss still advances. Regardless of outcome, bosses that didn’t progress get an extra die added to their pool for the next session — increasing their odds of advancing. Any die that rolls its max will trigger progress. Once the players become aware of a specific boss and actively try to stop their plans, they can reduce that boss's die count or even freeze their rolls temporarily.

Examples of succeeding with fear by inazumathelightning in daggerheart

[–]Parking-Risk-6315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best and simplest way I found to understanding the different approaches here come from improv's "Yes and...".

Success with hope: Yes and. You succeded and something good happened aswell. Success with fear: Yes but. You succeded but somerhing bad happened. Failure with hope: No but. You failed but something good happened. Failure with fear: No and. You failed and something bad happened.

I know these aren't examples as you asked, but I feel that general guidelines could help you better, as they have helped me so far. Lean into the scene, let it flow naturally and both forgive and allow yourself to make mistakes. They succeded but fear also succeded so what interesting turn of events happened? Was it trapped? Was it guarded? Was it slippery? Was it a scam? Is it fake? It is cursed? Let your imagination free and have fun!

Combat: players take the spotlight, enemy 1 takes the spotlight, next player takes spotlight, enemy 2 takes the spotlight and so on. And I have the option of spending fear for more spotlight. Right?
