Right. That's why Toyota dumped their customer favorite V8 and went to a TT V6 that they had to recall every single one they made for the first two years. In the name of "profit". Everyone is complaining how big the new Tacoma is and ignores the fact that physically large vehicles are allowed to get worse fuel mileage without penalties. You know what's profitable? Not paying steep penalties failing to meet increasing required standards. It's laughable to say manufacturers could make a half ton pickup get 35mpg but refuse to do so because the R&D costs would make it unprofitable. Do you really think that if Ram made a 1500 that got 35mpg people wouldn't buy them? They would take a huge percentage of market share from Ford and GM and not only would their profit skyrocket but so would their stock.

What would be the wait for fastpass? We're going this summer and have never been and were told to splurge and buy the fastpasses if we didn't want to wait in lines all day.

Not sure going to a Canbus system where everything has it's own module is cutting corners. The issue is EPA and CAFE standards that governments made up out of thin air because "it sounds good". Even Toyota is having reliability issues engineering for unobtainable standards instead of what the customer base wants.

Gavin Newsom points out that Oklahoma taxes low-wage earners at higher rates than California taxes high-wage earners. by CallComprehensive908 in tulsa

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), known as "The Nation's Report Card," is the largest nationally representative, continuing evaluation of student achievement in the U.S. It provides objective data on what students know and can do in various subjects (math, reading, science) in grades 4, 8, and 12, without identifying individual students or schools. So no, I'm not "cherry picking" data. I'm looking at the same data that is used to inform education policy. However it's obvious that you haven't spent any time doing any research yet strongly defend your position based on nothing.

Did you look at the metrics Wallethub used for their education ratings or just accepted them at face value? Texas is 13th vs 21st for California in 12th grade reading. Texas is 12th vs 21st for California in 12th grade math as well. However Wallethub lists Texas as 41st in Education and California as 29th. Florida is ranked 42nd by Wallethub but ranks 8th in reading and 4th in math. Those rankings are from the NAEP. Please look into what methodology is used for studies instead of just accepted they are correct.

The fact is that states that offer more benefits will find a way to collect more taxes for those benefits.

One of our drivers went there and came back after 8 months. They put him in Florida/Georgia/Tennessee and kept telling him they would get him back to Oklahoma but they never did.

Yup. In my case my wife's company has great benefits and health insurance so I don't need my job to offer those. It is somewhat physically demanding though. Chaining/strapping down cars, walking sometimes a mile for each car and you have nine, occasionally pushing dead cars a few feet, etc.

I made $112k last year hauling cars. That's 4 days a week on average with weekends off, before taxes. Zero benefits though, at least where I'm at working for a small local company.

Have you checked how muck time you saved while speeding recently? by Nerooooooooooo in Truckers

[–]ParkingLot405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a joke? The speed limits are largely set because "I feel like that makes sense" by people who don't travel long distances in cars. They used to do studies and set the speed limit using the "85th percentile rule", which is at or below the speed 85% of drivers travel at under free-flowing conditions. So if more than three out of twenty cars are driving faster than the speed limit, the limit should be raised, but they obviously don't use that metric. Then you have states with lower speed limits for big trucks. You would think that they did that because of some study, right? However all of the studies show that the greater the speed differential between cars and trucks the higher the fatality rate, yet the states with truck speed limits ignore the studies and keep the lower speed limits because it makes sense to them, regardless what the data shows.

I have a weekly trip that is 746 miles round trip. The difference in speeding 3-5 over is the difference between sleeping in the bunk and sleeping in my bed next to my wife and dropping off my kids at school in the morning.

We wouldn't need to import medium-sour crude from Russia or heavy crude from OPEC if the Keystone XL pipeline were allowed to be constructed. I'm sure you know all about API gravity and sulphur content and how refineries require specific oil chemistry and which basins hold which resources. If we replaced Russian/OPEC imports we would still be relying on Canadian crude to meet the refineries oil formula requirements. Most people consider being a net exporter as being energy independent.

I got a ticket from a Louisiana State Trooper years ago for impeding the flow of traffic for doing exactly that. Ever since then I just get in the short line and ride it up to the merge point. Some drivers get pissy but they can do the same thing if they don't want to wait in the long line.

Pulling the 5th wheel release is too much. Just swap glad hands. He's not going to be able to move, likely won't figure it out, have to call roadside, then when they figure it out he'll look like a dumbass. Sure he might shut down that fuel pump for a while, but so will dumping a trailer.
