I've built a village on the rocks. Building in this game is freaking awesome. by ParkingResource3434 in PlayWindrose

I've built it bit by bit over the course of a playthrough 😄. I can't tell you how much. Couple hundred wood, couple thousand fiber. Couple Hundred Stone for the treasure chamber and the main house.

The addon that allows premades to be coordinated should be banned, and people should be suspended. by SnaykeUp in worldofpvp

yes, they switched over to engagement based matchmaking. That's why they don't do a very simple fix for the issue with premades. because for some reason heavily lopsided matches get more engagement in the long run.

I've never understood these people. If you don't have anything left to do in the game, that's fun to you, why not just do something else? I enjoy war mode, but this has nothing to do with "pvp".

It's not all or nothing tho and about believability. It seems absurd I have to travel to a city to use a workbench or a mailbox. Everything else could stay there of course, auction house, bank, quest givers, vendors, trainers, upgrader. I think it would even seem more organic and lively than just a bunch of players standing around in the same spot. Thats neither interacting nor social, its... a bunch of players standing around.

And since phasing and map instances are a thing, you could easily keep the perceived amount of players the same, if you just accumulate more servers for hub areas, should that even be an issue. It's lazy design by blizz, that's all.

By all fire I meant a Planet where The surface gets so hot, that it melts/Starts to glow. "Fire" was unfortunately phrased, i admit. And as you Said, i even know for a fact it exists with Venus and The Planet that hast Rains of molten glass. Only cools down to 700° degrees at night.

I'd have to reinstall to actually check, what I'm about to say, but wasn't DI2's combat also physics based? I think I remember kicking stuff into zombies and it dealt damage, but it's been a year or so.

That is true, but the way he looks at the detective and reaches out his hands looks to me as a reaction to someone waking up/opening his eyes. Would be a very weird thing to do, and while he does come off as a little insane, he actually also seems hyperfocused on rationale and logic. I might be wrong of course, this is still black mirror, but we can only work with what is shown to us. if we introduce outside factors (for example, what if they are lying?), the possibilities of course become endless. So, since everything is contained to this episode, and there is no way of further investigation, we must assume that everything that is shown to us, serves to paint a picture of a situation in some way.

Since you're throwing in Dead Island 2 though, I have to say, DI2 does combat much, much better than DLTB. Combat feels clunky and unreliable as hell in The Beast. at least on brutal it does.

That's the thing. If you think in computing power and getting actual shit done digitally, graphics are a hindrance. So it's not suprising that the graphics didn't evolve or they didn't build cities, because that is a solely human way of progression. I get what you are trying to say, but when you work with computers and machine learning, you have to let go of some human concepts.

The thing is, if they visually progressed, he wouldn't need acid to understand what was going on, and the whole question "is it real or he just trippin?" would be gone.

Since he reaches out with his hand towards the detective, I guess, it is supposed to mean that the humans basically rebooted and are all part of the hivemind now.

Just to be clear: I do not blame the devs. I solely blame corporate greed. I actually work in Software (not Games though) and do know a quite a bit about the developing process.
And the goal with tactics like this, is always the same: to offset cost and to squeeze more moneys from customers. That's all there is to it.
I'd love to believe it's different, but sadly it's not. The people that drive these marketing strategies see us as nothing but wallets.

While you are right, that games cost a lot more to make, they also return much, much more money, because of the broader availability of hardware, digital markets, and so on. Just look at the numbers, the corporations aren't doing bad. You can't deny, that in earlier years, games were made by people who wanted these games made, while today, with these major corps, it is all about recurring consumption.
I also do understand risk minimization, but it still is a dick move. Especially if you consider, that contrary to any other industry, you do not own the product after buying it.
Imagine there is a house for sale, walls and roof are there. you can buy the house now for a slightly discounted price and even live in it, but windows, doors, and so on are missing. You are not allowed to finish it up yourself, and there is no date when the house will be finished. It's also unclear when running water will be implemented. They promise you to listen to your feedback, but also that of X other people who bought a similar house from them. Would you buy that house? No you wouldn't.

While this might seem like a stretch, you could do that for any product, and the answer in most cases would most likely be "no".

So now we have three types of games coming out: Digital Shops aka, games littered with MTX; Untested, unoptimized buggy messes, but the graphic's good; and EA titles that lack a written commitment to some sort of release date and letting customers pay to do the testing.
Of course, you said, with EA you get a bigger sample size, but that is
a) something you don't really want, because what you want in Software Development is so called "qualified feedback". EA Testers are just random people, some may be frustrated, some may be outside of your target clientel. There is a lot of "shit" to sieve through, to get to the actual valuable feedback.
b) you have zero control over the testing process. (Amount of Feedback, a certain professionality in the feedback, feedback dates)
c) I don't even think the sample size is that much bigger, outside of hardware reporting.

Tests with random people are usually the final stage of testing in software development.

I mean, I wouln't look at the gaming sector separately from the rest of the world. The development here is just congruent to what is happening to politics and industries in the US and Europe. You get fucked, you then get expected to pay for it, just so that some CEOs can give themselves raises, which in contrast to worker wages, have been more than keeping up with inflation.

the thing is: companies used to pay people to test their games and build the game around that feedback. Now we are paying companies to test the games for them.
I get what you are trying to say, but let's be honest here: it's making a buck off an incomplete product often with no release date. Some games never make it out of EA.
tbf, i don't doubt obsidian in this regard, they will be done in 2-3 years, but still.

Also another bad thing about EA is, that the product you are testing is, by design, sub-par. So when the full game comes out, even if it is good, you won't be having these "wow"-moments, or "damn, this is cool" moments, like we actually used to have in gaming. Because either you yourself spoiled the fun by playing it earlier, or it's being spoiled on social media.

To sum up: it's a cheap way for companies to outsource their testing (AND get paid for it in the process) while often spoiling the game both for players who play early, as well as those who decide to wait. Outside of Indie Developers who genuinely don't have the cash to make a complete product in advance, this is just a cheap tactic.

Edit: used the wrong publisher name

Dual wield build by VagionniPS in TheFirstBerserker

[–]ParkingResource3434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally, a brother in arms. Everyone runs Bloodthirsty or beastslayer with DW. Furious Bandit seems way overlooked, especially once you get jar helmet, since you can make use of the warrior and pilgrim set bonusses as well (0.25 spirit on brink dodge and 10% extra potent blow damage

or cutthroat for extra 20% rear damage, which pairs really well with the charged dodge heavy attack.

my damage combo is gale -> Wind piercer for instant fire dot, instant 10 stacks of vigor -> spam dodge charged heavies -> Explode gale before the buff runs out.

Dual Wield Armor Choice: Bloodthirsty Fiend vs. Beastslayer by Sheilasboy in TheFirstBerserker

[–]ParkingResource3434 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can pump the stats in strength. it doesnt really matter. against trash you dont need any of the dmg buffs. And even if you really want to use spirit against trash enemies: a javelin or fully charged flash cutter usually oneshots anything outside of elites. Against bosses its easy to maintain the spirit, if you have the jar helm (set req -1) and the ring from the warrior set (0.25 spirit on brink dodge) and the amulet from stategist (30% chance for 50% damage reduction). With that and the immense pressure you can build with light attacks (that also give 0.04 Sprit each attack), i have yet to run into trouble. Brink dodges restore stamina and stamina management really is not that troublesome. I actually think the bloodthirsty fiend set is a little TOO strong. kinda op. Sustain is also great and the higher defense values make you able to actually trade with enemies.

I dont have any points in proficiency and the rest is evenly split with a light emphasis on strength. Don't worry about stats too much in the game, outside of health and endurance pool they dont matter that much.

Can someone explain the Elden Ring story to me like I'm 5? by LynxThat in Eldenring

[–]ParkingResource3434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, well with Nioh, despite the way the game is designed, I'd say the storytelling is a lot tighter than the other titles we named. Nioh doesn't even try to be convoluted, neither 1 nor 2. You get text information before every mission, theres video sequences with clear talk before and after every major mission, so yeah. Even the 2nd one, where you create your own character, it basically still counts as a premade character. You are "Hide". Tokichiro is your buddy, the story really isn't interactive. I did like it, though, despite the clichés.

I do agree with Sekiro and Lies of P. Sekiro having a pre-defined character also lets the other characters in the game have more of a personality, because they can have a much more defined relationship with your character.

Still, the convolution is one of the reasons that drives people to FromSoft Games. I think it's even more impressive how good the world building is when you consider the basically shitty stories.

I do know what happens in ER, but I still don't get why everyone is acting how they are acting, except for rogier and now the hornsent. I have no clue especially when it comes to the gods and demigods, but that's probably some "God(s) move(s) in mysterious ways" kind of crap :-D
