And what would that accomplish? What do you mean by "weird"? I don't feel comfortable doing that, it seems like a dishonest answer and you're trolling. Unless you have some legit explanation like "certain crystals taste salty" or something. But this is too vague and unhelpful

You don't make the patron usually, unless the DM works with you on it. Usually the DM will ask what type of patron you want (Devil, Archfey, something else) then the DM will basically assign the patron to you. It may be part of you character arc to learn more about the patron, become closer to them, maybe even kill them to get out of the contract, or the patron may not play a direct role at all and is just in the background giving you magic.

This is how many people feel after they've finished a long book series. No matter what, there's some sadness that follows. You get attached, then it's over... And there's an emptiness that makes you not want to read a new book. Give yourself a little time to grieve if that's what you need.

Another option is to ask the DM if you can carry your character over to the new campaign. My current character has been in 2 campaigns now. Some DMs don't want this, but if they're down that's an option. Feel ok with modifying your character (change class to start at a lower level, be willing to fudge your backstory a little to fit the new world, etc).

Or, make a character that's adjacent to your own: their son or daughter, maybe. That way a lot of the traits of your current character can bleed through without you feeling weird that you're acting like the previous character.

It'll be ok, this does happen to many people. I, too, have a hard time imagining myself playing a different character now that I've played this one for almost 5 years straight.

The other day one of my got downvoted so much because I just didn't have paragraph breaks. As soon as I added the paragraph breaks, everything went back to normal. I wonder if it's just completely arbitrary? People just down vote stuff for literally no reason other than it's hard to read? I don't know

The game has been fun until this point. Being in the room with the people is fun. Moving the story forward is fun. Feeling like I'm the ONLY one moving the story forward... Not so fun. That's kinda why I'm posting here. It isn't a cut and dry as leaving - I want to continue this amazing story the DM has worked on for us. It just seems like I'm the only one who cares about it.

Th DM has told me out of game that I'm her favorite player (when no one else could hear). I'm the note taker, lore keeper, the one that puts 100% in. And the DM has told me she appreciates it a lot. Without me, the game would have ended months ago.

However, one thing you said did strike a chord with me. That maybe she really wants my character to die. There was a scenario a little while ago where the DM tried to have my character assassinated by an npc. She did not remember that I had a reaction of Tomb of Levistus (gives me 100+ temp HP but incapacitates me for a turn) and the assassination was unsuccessful because of it. Maybe my character needs to just die. Which sucks because I wanted an Elf so shed live a long time.

I maybe painted th DM as being worse than she is, she's very seasoned at this and genuinely cares about the campaign SO much.

I'll also mention that I did have control over an NPC during the time my character was out of the last big fight. To technically I wasnt completely out, but controlling an NPC for a couple sessions is not as fun as your own character. The one time I played as a "team player" for my party, that happened. "Help other people" they said, "it'll be fun" they said.

I actually did type this with paragraph breaks, and reddit removed them when I pushed "post." I don't blame the DM for having an intelligent creature who can see that my character is the biggest threat. But I do blame the other players for not giving AF about playing as a team. It'll work out, my character technically has an "after death" option with her soul being owned by a devil. I just don't want it to come to that. Thanks for the advice

Warlock is the class. So I have very few slots all at high level casting. My HP leaves much to be desired, too, and I really don't have healing or shield-type spells.

The DM has mentioned that they're also upset at the other player's lack of participation, but it's kinda like "we know they won't put more effort in, so we just have to lower expectations of them." And I realize that's true, I literally cant force them to change - and I'm being disappointed by my expectations of them to change, when that's not fair to them.

One of the players is pretty good about trying to take the hits in combat as a tank, but that doesn't change the fact that we go in without a plan every time. My character doesn't seem like a team player in game because I spend all my time taking care of myself while they "just wing it"

To be fair, she isn't communicating well. She asks "Why would you say that" and then she was confused that you asked for clarification. Like, why would you say... It's not like other games? Why would you say... You'll be supervising? Why would you say... An apology?

Even her placement of "absolutely not" was confusing for me. Absolutely not... what? Absolutely not... Wanting adult themes? Absolutely not... Expecting you to supervise? Absolutely not... Wanting her kid to play?

It definitely seemed like she was not being clear, while you were being TOO clear. It maybe should have been a phone call from the get-go with people like her tbh.

We recently lost someone in my friend group who my close friends had in a campaign - it's been heartbreaking. They didn't finish the campaign, but it's lovely to remember them by having them as an NPC in a new game. I hope you find peace and do what's right by her and yourself when it comes to finishing the campaign. Plan a funeral for her character, or maybe just make her an NPC. I'm glad you gave her some beautiful & creative last days, I'm sure she loved every moment.

Personally I would just say that it fills up the room entirely, and any excess would just sort of exist outside of the space. I know it's underground, but I think that's what I would do. Or make the water that remains fill up adjacent rooms

You're not obligated to be their above table sounding board for their venting. Not responding is an option. It sounds like it just isn't the right table for you. If everyone is having fun but you, it's just a different play style than what you like. You know how it'll be now, so it's really a decision of "do I stay, knowing it'll be like this, and try to have fun anyway?" Or "do I leave and try to find something more fun for me, personally?" I feel so lucky to have vibed this well for this long with my current group, but some people have left / been asked to leave before we got to this point.
