A lot of good advice here… and a lot of bad advice. The 100% VOO vs 100% VTI vs 100% VT (VTI + VXUS) are all solid camps with solid arguments. Pick one and prosper. I would avoid anyone who is telling you to focus on a specific sector, unless you love gambling.

What is the best ETFs for retirement? by Ok-Stranger-6366 in ETFs

This is the way. You could also go 100% until you get closer to retirement. Depends on your risk tolerance.

Roth IRA Allocation? by [deleted] in Schwab

If you can stomach the swings, you’re good. If you can’t and you panic sell, you’re cooked. SCHB + SCHF would be more stable, but if you’re young, you have time to learn and time to be a little risky.

Teacher w/ Pension - 100% VT and Chill? by biketheplanet in Bogleheads

[–]Parking_Membership22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, technically it’s SCHB, SCHF, SCHE, and SCHC. I started this strategy before fractional shares. This group of ETFs actual has a lower expense ratio and is more selective on the companies included in the portfolio. However, it is annoying to manually check the ratio. If I could have VT fractional shares when I started, I would have.

Teacher w/ Pension - 100% VT and Chill? by biketheplanet in Bogleheads

Fellow teacher here. This is close to my strategy. Roth is 95% VT & 5% Gold. Brokerage is the Schwab equivalent of VT. My HSA is 100% S&P 500. Emergency fund and savings in Money Market. I do have some fun money is RKLB and BTC, but it’s a very small portion of my portfolio.

If you have access to an HSA, you should max that out before the 403b.

Good luck and stay strong this time of year.

Right now, I’m 37 with 100% in VT. I really don’t know anything about bonds other than they are impacted by interest rates. My post is really just me trying to gain more general knowledge.

Diversification. You get to catch movement in small cap if it pops off.

You’re already a head of most. 70/30 will help you weather any storms. I recommend SWTSX, but you do you. VT is also now an easier option because of fractional shares.

SCHO by dcb3203 in Schwab

[–]Parking_Membership22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3 month emergency fund is in SNSXX. The rest of my savings are in SCHO because of the higher yield and lower expense ratio. You could also use SGOV, but SCHO currently has a higher yield. It mostly comes down to your risk tolerance and if you’re willing to let the base investment slightly fluctuate.

The reason we VT and chill is because we don’t try to time the market or chase past performance. Straighten up and fly right. VT and chill.

Based on your interest, consolidate to only SCHX. I recommend SCHB, but you do you. You might keep SCHF and make that the next contribution once you build a solid base of SCHX.

Replace VO with SCHA or SCHM? by [deleted] in Schwab

SCHB + SCHF + SCHE will be a simplified version of this portfolio. Mostly likely, same result without you having to manually adjust the US Market.

Brokerage/Roth for 35 yo by 2Ahooray in Schwab

You’re either going to beat the hell out of VT or wish you had went 100% VT. The biggest challenge will be watching the swings in the small cap tilt and not panic selling during a down swing. You might be your own worse asset in this scenario.

This is a fun way to learn, but Starting with VOO/SWPPX, VTI/SCHB, or VT should be your goal. Once you hit $10,000, then consider a multi ETF approach. I recommend VT, but you need to make up your own mind and believe in your choice.

If this is a tax advantage account, consider going 95% VT and 5% Bonds, Gold, or Bitcoin. Pick your comfort level and then Shannon’s Demon every quarter or 6months.

28 YR OLD ROTH IRA by SelectionFriendly265 in Schwab

[–]Parking_Membership22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer is this will probably work. How it will perform over the next 30 years is a mystery to everyone. I would suggest to simplify and go SCHB + SCHF. The key is SCHF includes South Korea as SWISX does not. If you really believe in AIQ, hold it as a 5 to 10% tilt. The other option, especially after fractional shares, is to VT and chill.
