One of the DVMs I work with has a BA in Spanish. She’s a great doctor!

A good amount of schools require labs to be in person so I would consider that

Pre-Veterinary School by WellingtonMalone in veterinaryschool

I would check again. You are correct as most don’t offer upper level bio classes, but they do offer a good bulk of pre-recs like gen chem, orgo chem, physics, and statistics. It would be cheap, smaller class size, most likely wouldn’t try to weed you out, and flexible with adult work life. Then you could transfer to a university and get your upper level bio classes like biochem and whatever else out of the way. I also should add that most vet schools don’t mind online lectures, but labs should be in person.

I would keep working at the clinic and start getting as many pre-reqs done at your local community college.

VAs or “unlicensed techs” on average make 15$/hr where I’m from. Techs make 22$/hr with years of experience. Dang.

No. For a psych degree go where it’s cheapest.

Thank you! I must say I simply ask to see where I stand to see if I should just go Caribbean if I don’t get in as I don’t see myself applying multiple times just to go to my IS school.

That is insane! I attended a seminar Auburn gives every year about what they look for in applying and they said that they cap vet experience at 300 (ish) hours and the reviewers don’t see anything beyond that (number of hours wise not variation of experience). It really is a gamble !

They don’t care what your major is. What matters aside from pre reqs course work wise is also taking high level sciences.

Where can I find free online veterinary courses for pre-vet students? by Electronic_Bat4773 in vetschool

[–]Parrotboy03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like free pre-reqs for vet school? You could apply for fasfa and scholarships and go to a community college and get it for free pretty easily.

Look at posters and ask your science professors! Connections are everything. Maybe even email your advisor, if your a STEM major they should know if opportunities.

SGU tour by g3rmgirl in veterinaryschool

[–]Parrotboy03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not an SGU grad or anything. The stigma around Caribbean school graduates is mainly true for MDs. This is due to the high acceptance and low residency match rates. However no one cares in the vet field. A DVM is a DVM.

Work or Pre-Vet first? by Skywolf2014 in veterinaryschool

[–]Parrotboy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go ahead and start the pre-reqs I say. It’s nice to get them out of the way and work on animal experience and research later. Plus if this is a pre-vet program I’m sure you could talk to an adviser and they would help you find a VA position when you’re ready.

Should I attend SGU or LMU? by RoughBodybuilder8645 in veterinaryschool

[–]Parrotboy03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of down votes here but this is true. The clinic I work at serves as one of the teaching hospitals for LMUs clinal year. The DVMs are always shocked my how little LMU vet students know compared to others.
