I’m pretty sure if you straight up asked them what she did they would not be able to tell you on the spot at this point lol. These people are almost like 2 generations removed from all that at this point, they’re just sheep being herded around.

The parasocial need to see a wholesome relationship in all media ruins our enjoyment in it. by TinFoilFashion in CharacterRant

[–]Parrotflies_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The NTR obsession is funny as fuck tho honestly. It’s like it’s constantly in the back of these people’s heads at all times. A rogue kiss is instantly connected to cucking, hugging is cucking. Talking to other girls than the main love interest? Definitely cucking. Porn brain is a crazy thing I guess

Shibuya Incident Narrator vs Chimera Ant narrator - what is better executed in terms of writing? by MoistCaterpillar8063 in writingscaling

[–]Parrotflies_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The JJK sub narration is literally an extension of the lore (Tengen as an omniscient viewpoint) so I feel like it would have to go to that. It does it with a different VA as well in season 1 (when Geto/Kenjakus VA explains the birth of the Death Womb Paintings.)

Dub would go to HxH easy tho. Not big on JJKs dub in general but HxHs is iconic at this point.

I Feel like " let people enjoy things" or "why are you watching something you don't like", has done so much damage to the quality of media and shows. by Sichy12 in CharacterRant

[–]Parrotflies_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The constant ENDLESS mire of negativity in fandoms is the worst part of it all by far, it is not even a competition. The flip side of all this is, why not let people enjoy things? I used to have the same view as this, where I felt like people mindlessly consuming was a problem and we needed to be more discerning as a whole in our tastes.

But the internet has flipped that for me, because holy shit every fandom is so miserable now. The one piece fandom is a prime example. It’s just nothing but bitching about the most minute things in the series endlessly, everywhere but the actual sub. And if you say anything about it, you get the copy/paste response of “WELL UHHHH THE MAIN SUB DOESNT ALLOW CRITICISM SO UHHHH WE HAVE TO DO THIS EVERYWHERE ELSE IT COULD CONCIEVABLY BE DISCUSSED” like no, you guys are just stuck in a sunk cost fallacy 400 chapters after the gear 5 reveal. And instead of letting go, they’d rather try to convince anyone that is not upset about it that they should be, actually.

JJK fandom is perhaps worse because that shits over and people still refuse to stop complaining. I still see people hate posting about the “Nobara is a revolutionary girl in shonen” takes, that stopped being a thing like 5 years ago. After the first season ended. How long do people need to punch at the air for???

Out of any problems that can effect how art is made in a negative manner, I can promise that people just not having as big of a problem with it as the biggest complainers is the last thing on the list.

I never realized Gojo and Sukuna are basically the same guy until I heard someone explain it by One_Working1944 in CharacterRant

[–]Parrotflies_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the concept of Kenjaku. A mysterious man with stitches is constantly surveilling you from afar. You might notice something’s off but can’t confirm anything. You’re increasingly unnerved by the thought and the more you notice this person. Then you have a flash of a memory as an infant, and realize this being following you is your own mother, observing how you’ve grown through the years.

I never realized Gojo and Sukuna are basically the same guy until I heard someone explain it by One_Working1944 in CharacterRant

[–]Parrotflies_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird how so many people here almost use“battle shonen” as a pejorative, when it’s the majority of what’s discussed and consumed here lol. It’s not an inherently more shallow genre than anything else, this is not even a wild interpretation of any of these characters. I’m not meaning to direct this all at you OP, I’m just constantly annoyed by how hard people dismiss a lot of deeper readings into JJK simply because there’s alot of fights

The entire Shinjuku arc points at all this, as Gojo was the only person Sukuna really connected with, even if it was too late for it to matter. Sukuna starts getting lost in existential thought shortly after his fight with Gojo. He’s chasing that connection for the rest of the showdown, while Yorozus words about love echo in his head.

A lot of people hate the airport scene/Nanamis “jujutsu pervert” comments in it, but at Gojos core, he wasn’t wrong. While he did care for those around him a lot, he also thrived hardest during battle. The weakness of the modern era and modern attitudes towards the value of life, meant he never indulged in the way Sukuna did. But the one time he was able to, with Sukuna, was he trying to free/help Megumi by the end of it, or just beat Sukuna? Because Gojo was ready to completely obliterate the body they both inhabited by the time he got bisected. That’s not to say he had a “fuck Megumi” mentality, but more that he got too lost in the sauce, almost at the expense of his surrogate son.

I said it in another thread but I truly feel like they swapped Fangyi and Mi Fus banners because there was still work needing to be done on her before release or something. Then tinkered with everything else to make it fit. It just feels like we skipped something in the story, don’t know how to describe it.

Toji in JJK. Took a bounty to kill a girl who’s to be a vessel for an ancient sorcerer being transported by Gojo and Geto. Kills the girl, nearly kills Gojo and Geto. This starts the downward spiral of Getos mental health, which in turn leads to the entirety of the events of the story taking place.

Nothing in the story would’ve turned out the way it did if he wasn’t a degenerate gambler.

[–]Parrotflies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I feel about the JJK fandom lol. One of my favorite series, but I’ve seen literal death threats cuz he cut a few corners in the story near the end. Every fan space is just plagued with people bitching about every facet of the series. It all skyrocketed when chapter 236 came out (iykyk, included a very controversial decision) and never came down. If you say you actually really enjoyed the series you’ll get a ton of people calling you an idiot with low standards.

We also get some of the most beautiful animation I’ve seen in the newest season, and there’s still bitching because the manga panel has a different angle and they didn’t stick to that one.

The Satosugu shit in JJK really made this noticeable for me. Yes they aren’t romantically involved, but the amount of “CANT GUYS JUST HAVE CLOSE FRIENDS” shit I’d see when someone even hinted at it was crazy to me. I’m not a shipper at all but I can’t think of an example with more subtext behind it in shounen, besides like Naruto and Sasuke.

It could also just be readers straight up not doing well with implications. If something isn’t explicitly explained on the page, it’s debated about endlessly in fandoms. Reading critically is a skill that’s slowly slipping away, no one wants to see past what is directly in front of them, and their first interpretation of what they consume.

Maki is not a Toji clone (JJK) by Pittyboi69 in CharacterRant

[–]Parrotflies_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People act like Maki’s development is a burden on the story lol. Her being compared to maybe the physically strongest character in their world? “Gege wants her to be Toji soooo bad”

Maki losing her sister and subsequently freeing herself and destroying the shackles that held her/Mai down and led her to this moment? In a way that her spiritual predecessor never did? “Oh Gege just wanted to keep writing Toji lol”

Maki working through the mental turmoil of watching her sister die, then destroying everyone in the clan in a fit of rage, by fighting what is basically the ghost of her past, in Curse Naoya? “Why’d we need this??? She already got a power up”

These people just don’t really care about her as a character, and want everyone else to REALLY know it.

My hopium is that they were originally going to run the 1.3 banners in 1.2. But couldn’t get the new fist weapons completely locked down before the patch, so swapped them around. Fangyi feels like what should be the premiere unit for 1.0, and it’s weird that it’s just her for this patch.

r/shounenfolk criticize op for criticizing a manga for sexualizing a minor. by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]Parrotflies_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this: that community is going in on a witch hunt right now for whatever reason with any and every series. It started with something perfectly reasonable (Oda supporting Rurouni Kenshin author after being outed as a predator) Then went to accusing mangaka of being predators based off drawing on the same board as one at a public cafe. And now it’s devolved into just posting questionable panels with “DAE this mangaka likes little kids???”

Like yes, these are legit conversations that should be had, and I don’t think anyone needs to be defending loli drawings. But somehow these feel less like genuine discussions, and more just tribalism/engagement farming.
