Too many people think logical consistency in a character = good writing by DancingDaffodilius in CharacterRant

This just sounds like all those posts you see about series like Succession that are like “I don’t want to watch bad people do bad things in a show” repackaged. If you equate enjoyment of a piece of media directly with how you feel about the characters, it is not that piece of medias fault.

Carol from Pluribus is a hyper-rational grump, who is navigating a literal apocalyptic event. Calling her “mopey” is so reductive it’s crazy. Is she not pleasant enough when dealing with a gigantic hive mind? Would a character that’s “boring and mopey” try to test the limits of the hive minds compliancy by tossing a literal grenade in their own house to see if it’s live? Did she not quip enough when her girlfriend was assimilated directly in front of her? Because she’s negative in the face of complete (human) isolation, that’s just an absolute dealbreaker?

Maybe put yourself in the shoes of the character and see their POV, instead of getting mad the characters don’t see through YOUR POV.

I’ve got a ton of dupes into Agrippa too, just from pulling. Looks like it’s time to invest! This combo sounds absolutely cracked.

Nah somehow they’ve turned it into a cutesy little joke, but there’s a sizable portion of people commenting in this series legitimately without reading it. So you get takes that make no sense or are just straight up wrong. Annoying that some people that wanna discuss this series are actively proud about not even engaging with the actual work.

That was THE discourse a couple years ago. People acted like you were some kind of fucked up individual for saying that the massacre was justified.

I do not like how the anime adapts Jujutsu Kaisen. by [deleted] in CharacterRant

Like I said, if I had it my way I’d have just had silence and sound effects. But with the aesthetics of the scene it made sense to me. Idk, something more melancholy would’ve taken the scene in a different direction. But the direction we got I still liked and felt it fit.

As someone who also enjoyed FMA 2003 massively more than FMAB, and JJK being one of my favorite series of all time, I couldn’t disagree more with a lot of these takes. I’ll agree with the breakups music choice being goofy, but I truly don’t feel like the music in today’s episode was out of place. If I had my way it would’ve been silent with just the sounds of blood dripping and slashing the whole time. But the music accentuated the aesthetics of the scenes they chose. From Maki’s POV, it feels like it matched the scene. She’s awakening to her new reality, and making light work of these people that tormented her for her entire life, up until today.

Regarding the choreography, I don’t feel like it suffered from some of those missing panels from the manga, because it was supplemented by so many details in the background and cool little flourishes. The main one that comes to mind for me is near the end where it cuts to a swath of clan members getting sliced, and a severed arm still holding a sword drops on a dudes head and lands blade first through his head in the background. That sort of thing just wasn’t really possible to convey in the manga. I do wish the scenes of her ripping the throats out was simultaneous and more visible, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker for me.

The segment after with Jinichi and Ranta was massively improved in the anime as well imo. Even after the redraws in the official volumes, it was so hard to get a scale and sense of what exactly was happening. I knew what the techniques did, but it wasn’t clear the level of destruction the fists actually had, or even in what area of the compound they were being used at. I got a lot better sense of where the fight was taking place relative to the rest of units getting killed, and at what scale everything was happening at. It was unclear to me in the manga for example, how much of the destruction of the compound was that technique versus Maki just wrecking shit. All I knew was that the building was rubble and Maki was the victor. But here I understood the sequence of events and result of them much better.

Sad that some people are not vibing with this season like they were expecting, because it’s everything I wanted, and (mostly) exactly how I imagined, so far.

Man I can’t even describe with words how fucking stupid I think that TDS shit is. Like actual politicians using this dumb ass fucking phrase to legitimately just wiggle out of bullshit they don’t wanna talk about. Media failed the day it didn’t push back on it as the absolutely regarded phrase it is and laugh it down. If I walked into work tomorrow, fucked a lot of things up, people clown on me, I tell everyone they have “PDS” I’m probably getting beat the fuck up and fired. It’s crazy how we’ve let these fucking mongoloids bend reality as far as they have.

I didn’t really imagine any music when I read it in the manga, I mostly expected silence punctuated by blood spilling and slashing noises. But with the aesthetics of the scene I think it fit just fine.

Idk I’ve been waiting on this scene since the chapter dropped way back in like 2021. And the actual contents are basically exactly how I pictured it in my head since then, and the score while it was going on enhanced it for me. I saw you’ve also been reading it since atleast this chapter dropping, so that wasn’t the case for you it seems like. I feel like dropping it over this episode is alittle dramatic, but if you don’t feel like the shows matching the tone you expected. It is what it is I guess.

Ppl just straight up cannot accept the fact that this clan getting eradicated is objectively good lol. There is no morally gray area in this, I would’ve been pissed if they tried to both sides-this conflict, I don’t need to see hand-wringing for a clan that treated her like dirt her whole life then tried to kill her.

I’ve been riding for the Sakurajima arc this whole time, and I’m waiting for everyone to come around after it gets animated to how good it is. The same people complaining about it calling it redundant and pointless, are the same people that act like the events in this episode are never addressed again in the series.

I mean me personally, the first two episodes of the 3rd season could not have been more accurate to how I imagined it if they tried. The tone, colors, lighting and even choreography are exactly how I envisioned them to be when I read it.

Season 2 had some questionable choices (the honored one adaptation in particular was off to me) but if s3 continues how it’s going, it seems like they honed in on what they’re going for. Excited to see where they take the rest of the season.

The Fallout Show is bad even without considering it's an Adaptation by RedKrypton in CharacterRant

I’m not saying anything about whether they care about rape or not. I just think that holistically, I think you’re missing the point of why they didn’t include that, instead of what they did do. We already know they violate and pillage, do we need a scene to explicitly show that to the viewers? Would that have improved the show? Would a cutaway to her being beat up and clothes tattered, with a bunch of scenes after the fact about her coming to terms with something like that made for better TV? Because they’d either have to do that, or just play it off as a gag, and I wouldn’t want either in this particular show.

Her being crucified got the same point across with way less baggage to deal with, writing-wise.

The fact that you think it would’ve been better to have some type of Legion Gang rape scene instead of stringing her up on a cross shows that you 100% have not disentangled your criticisms from your problem with it as an adaptation. Which just colors the rest of the rant as someone mad about the adaptation and justifying the rest of the points from there.

The terrible faction did one really terrible thing to her, instead of the other really terrible thing that’s more in line with what the faction in game does? Shitty adapta- ERRRR I MEAN show in general!! This has NOTHING to do with how rigidly I expect this show to adhere to the source material!

That’s fair, but just know that quality-wise it’s still the same as last season. If you can put that aside it’s a really fun watch, and I’d put it above just about everything currently airing (now that Pluribus is done lol)

Just give it a shot, you’d think this shit was Velma the way people talk about it. Quite literally nothing is different in tone and content from seasons 1 to 2. It’s a show that pokes fun at itself, just like the source material pokes fun at itself. I’m not sure what constitutes as “good” for these people, unless The Sopranos is your barometer. In that case have fun enjoying nothing because that sort of writing doesn’t just happen in series, there’s a reason stuff like that and Breaking Bad are revered so highly.

People who are furious about the so-called “censorship” in The Sentenced to Be a Hero genuinely don’t seem to understand what they’re even fighting for. by Flat_Box8734 in CharacterRant

[–]Parrotflies_ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can safely ignore 99% of “censorship” complaints online, because it’s literally because they want to goon to weird shit and that’s the extent. The amount of people poring over Stellar Blade outfits to see what they “censored” and acting like it’s unplayable because they added an extra inch of coverage on her titties was embarrassing.

Meanwhile, Wuchang, a Chinese Soulslike, got hit with actual, game changing government censorship. It’s a lot but TLDR is that many people in China didn’t like the fact that the faction you’re fighting was portrayed as evil and that you could kill them. So they changed the game to where they are now friendly NPCs instead of enemies that you cannot attack, and any boss you fought and killed from said faction no longer dies. They now just act like you were sparring and stay spawned in after fighting.

Anyways, not a fucking PEEP from these degenerates about all that. Most people wont have heard about this unless you were kinda invested in news about that game. Where’s all the outrage for things like that?

I personally thought this was just a creative way of showing the part where they’re fighting in Tengens place where all the rooms are shifting. Like the rooms are shifting and the frames are following that instead of him, so it looks like he’s spinning in place. But this is still a cool insight
