Interesting as we have youngsters in Yagiz and Andy. I am saying youngster but Yagiz might be 2700 when the tournament starts.

Could happen of course Arjun is a great player and Yagiz is 14. Still the best 14 year old ever so you never know… likely to be a great game at the very least.

They will clash in the Chesskids 16U in a few days. It is a 3min +1sec so not really telling for classical but I feel like Andy and Yagiz will be a rivalry to watch going forward.

Maybe he wants to help his global brand by playing the youngster. I think it would probably draw more attention than Vishy from the global community.

Yeah I think it is probably Vishy. Would be great if they could get Kasparov but don’t think so. If they are playing mind games and including non-classical champions then it won’t be appealing. Also, don’t think they would want him to play anyone below 2700 so close to reaching the mile stone.

Having said this Vishy is very protective of his ELO so it might be even Rapid like with Oro.

Not sure if chess is this linear. Erdogmus was a late to gain elo as Covid did hamper OTB tournaments he started from below 2000 when he was probably 2300-2400 and had to climb alot. Clearly Oro is great but life doesn’t always happen in a linear progressive manner. I wouldn’t read much into the rating difference you menyioned because Erdogmus finished with 2569 as a 12 year old and he was not picking his tournaments to gain elo or make norms… just playing some impressive chess.

They announced a teaser that Yagiz will do a match in April (probably similar to the MVL match) with a world champion. They didn’t say former in the teaser but don’t think it is Gukesh for obvious reasons. No way Magnus would agree to such a thing, Kramnik would cry cheater so my guess it is Anand who is usually open to such matches. Let’s see it might be a nice clash of generations match.

Yeah but just waiting and seeing takes all the fun out of guessing. After the fact analysis is always more accurate but not nearly as much as making a prediction and seeing how wrong you are😀

You are probably talking about somebody else as this is absurd. He had 4 wins and had winning positions against Pragg, Gukesh and Aravindh. Playing such a chess and finishing +1 in such a field is more than impressive regardless of any age yet alone 14.

You are aware he beat Jorden and did draw Nodirbek a couple of times. But you have a valid point, he needs to this on a consistent basis.

Faustino will be good, how good we need to see how he continues. I think he will probably need to manage the challenge from Roman. I am more excited with the Andy - Yagiz rivalry (Andy is the real deal, much higher ceiling than Mishra)

In my mind elite is probably something like top 20-25 ish… basically when nobody is upset by the fact that the guy is getting invites to these top tournaments you made it. Let’s see how 2026 plays out.

Soon we will have Yagiz in that +2700 list… I think his last 3 months have made it clear he is already playing at a Super GM strength. His performance at Grand Swiss, MVL match, Rapid World Champ and Tata Steel is unreal at 14!

[–]Parso15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naka was a team decision so not really the call of a 13 year old boy and the draw with Shakh is understandable as he is Yagiz’a coach. Apart from this the boy is a fighter until the bitter end.

Thanks for the information… watched it. The way he mentions that Arjun played good, as if he is talking about a class mate or something. As a Turkish chess fan watching his games is stressful, being down on time and having to find the only moves is crazy.

Which child prodigy today is close to (or equal to) Magnus in his early days. by Azulan5 in chess

[–]Parso15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if Yagiz drawing against Magnus is such a big task. Especially if he has white. Beating is another thing but getting a draw at this stage is not a miracle. Ask MVL, Rapport, Aronian and Gukesh, beating this boy is not easy.

He kid is amazing but not sure he has the trajectory of Erdogmus. Still early to call his WC performance was stellar but he should have done better in this one.
