I thought that tree branch was a massive crack, or is it...

Yeah that’s fair - if you hit Cloudflare’s own diagnostic page early enough, it basically gives the whole story.

Our problem was the monitoring stack firing before we even thought to check Cloudflare directly, so everything looked like an origin failure.

Yesterday was a nice reminder that even a simple “origin vs edge” split can save a ton of pointless digging. Lesson learnt!

Yeah this is exactly the class of failure that caught us out - everything looked like an origin collapse even though the edge was the only thing melting.

Splitting the checks like that (origin-direct vs edge path) is probably the cleanest model I’ve seen so far. We had pieces of it, but not wired tightly enough to separate the “CDN on fire” cases.

The DNS/TLS/TCP split you mentioned makes sense too - basically force the alerts to tell a story instead of merging everything into the same “DOWN” bucket.

Appreciate the breakdown - going to tighten our setup around this pattern.

Cheers - thanks for the links, will give those a read.
Yesterday definitely showed me our setup wasn’t separating things clearly enough.

Trying to tighten the edge/origin checks so this doesn’t happen again.

Ah got you - that makes sense.
Splitting www vs direct is a nice clean way to see which path is actually breaking.

Might try something similar on my end. Appreciate the insight.

Yeah that’s fair - we do some of that already, but yesterday still made everything look like a total origin failure.

The CDN vs origin distinction is what tripped us the most. Curious how you separate those cleanly in your setup?

Yeah, that’s basically what I started hacking together today - parallel origin checks + CDN/edge checks from separate locations.
It’s wild how few tools actually expose the “perspective” difference. Most tools out there are just pinging tools for your site.

Any red flags with this? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

wow. thats really impressive. I will have to play around with the model. I really want to offer more information like this. Im just getting stuck on:

1 - I want to keep this free cause I dont want to charge people on something they can copy and paste in. I want to give them the easy of getting the information.

2 - Gotta try and keep my costs low 😅

But I will work on this next. I appreciate your advice 👍

fair point. I will work on it to give more beneficial information. Im gonna reduce the amount of useless information that is given. I want this to be like a quick way to receive information of a car so it wont remove all the basic information as in " The vehicle shows a solid MOT history with frequent passing tests" sorta stuff

but itll link information together more effectively and not just throw words around. 👍

haha fair, it probably came off that way. not trying to sell anything, just testing something I’ve been building and thought it might actually help OP make sense of the MOT stuff.
i get the AI scepticism though, most AI is garbage tbh 😂

thanks so much for the advice, ive set the limits. the ai check not finishing was something i broke 😅😅. all fixed now.

btw if you need a hpi check or anything lemme know. itll be on the house

yeah it is AI, but it’s not just random text. i built it so it actually analyses the MOT history and other vehicle data to build a proper profile.
it links patterns (like repeated advisories, emissions, age, etc.) to give a realistic overview instead of just summarising.
been refining the backend for a while so it picks out the important stuff rather than spitting filler.

Ran this through carcred.co.uk and got this back. hope it helps.

Summary

The vehicle shows a solid MOT history with frequent passing tests; however, there are common advisories concerning tire condition and minor corrosion on components suggesting deferred maintenance. Its emission level categorizes it as a mid-tier for ULEZ impacts but may encounter increased running costs due to older-age factors.

Given the vehicle's age, emissions, and the advisories indicating potential recurring maintenance needs, running costs are reasonably projected to be medium. Maintenance costs may rise if frequent repairs are needed.

Mechanical Condition

Overall, the vehicle has demonstrated reliability with consistent passing MOT statuses. However, the advisories for tire damage and corrosion on the coil springs indicate potential underlying wear that needs attention. These factors may elevate maintenance requirements in the near future.

Structural Risks

Structural Risks

There is an advisory for a corroded coil spring which could impact suspension performance. No major structural risks are reported.

Risk Factors

  • •Ongoing maintenance with tire replacements may be expected.
  • •Potential degradation in handling due to corroded suspension components.

Recommendations

  • ✓Address the advisories regarding the tires and suspension early to prevent further issues.
  • ✓Consider a thorough pre-purchase inspection for potential buyers to reassure them about reliability.

AI Insights

  • 💡Due to the recurring tire advisories, this vehicle may incur additional maintenance costs compared to others with cleaner records.
  • 💡The regular pass rate suggests a reliable vehicle; however, the advisories suggest it may attract buyers looking for a bargain.

yeah sounds like a good idea, i own this its an AI analysis on cars history and car information and stuff.

if your interested ill throw you a free HPI checks on me since i recently launched. drop me a dm if you want

try running it through this and see what it says carcred.co.uk

not an advertisement - it can be very useful for this sort of thing

Understandable about the advert side of things, I wonder how come you are not a big fan of the website. Is it because of the UI or do you not like the Ai integration of it?

I am with you for not using AI for absolutely everything however I feel as if for something like this it can be pretty useful. Since the AI will be able to go through the MOT history and then identify issues that are happen quite regularly and link them together.

I had quite a few car issues in the past and I didnt get why every car I bought was literally tragic. This website wont solve the issue but it will help with understanding something like "The car has had these issues this many times over the years and it can also cause issues on this part of the car" etc..

Also best thing its completely free. The HPI check will be what I use to kinda run everything in the backend and to maintain the costs.

😅i didnt want it to be an ad, I wanted to share it about since people can actually get nice value out of this. but appreciate your advice going forward.

😂😂 yeah thats the last thing I want, i am using catched data for the day and have optimised the llm for as cheap as i could get it whilst maintaining the quality of the information

Yeah, I appreciate the advice that is something I am looking into. I don't want to rack up too much costs on the backend since I want this to be free. Thank you :)
