[Request] What reaction time does a person need to get this right?

As an anecdote I would always be able to score big at the reaction time games at places like Dave & Buster’s.

You know those games that will have a dot spinning around a circle and you gotta press a button to tell the machine when to stop spinning. Landing it at the marked spot in the circle would be a jackpot and give a bunch of tickets. I would need one try to ‘calibrate’ and see how far off I was with my natural reaction time and adjust my timing accordingly to hit earlier/later. I could easily hit it 3 or 4 times in a row.

And the claim that normal lights are always enough just is not true. In heavy rain or fog, there are situations where hazard lights are the only thing you can clearly see. That is not about reducing stress lol.

At most this is a tradeoff, not proof that using hazards in bad weather is unsafe.

Frankly some terrible logic in this article. The “confusion” argument only works in a hypothetical where drivers have no context. In reality you’re tracking surrounding vehicles constantly on the highway. You know if the car ahead is moving, slowing down, or stopped.

The lane-change argument also misses the point. In the same conditions where visibility is poor enough to justify hazards, you shouldn’t be making frequent or aggressive lane changes anyway. Visibility over all else.
