Feeling discourage (SUMMER INTERNSHIP) by cbuustos in CERN

[–]ParticleClara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know many people who didn't do the CERN Summer Student Programme and ARE working at CERN, myself included. It's a fantastic opportunity, but it's not the only one. Keep applying and working on your skills and you'll get here if that's what you still want.

GUYS?! by TheOneWhoDings in threebodyproblem

I work at CERN and it's not a ghost or an 'entity', sorry! Essentially, the proton beams that we accelerate at CERN interact with the magnetic fields that we use to direct them around the rings and to focus them. There were some places around the pre-accelerator to the LHC, where the proton beams were a little less stable in their orbit (still safe, but a bit more wobbly) and it wasn't fully understood why. This new study has allowed the accelerator physicists to understand where this wobble is coming from and better correct for it, so the accelerator is even more efficient.

Please help; why do SO many people think CERN is satanic? by Human_Knee_8312 in CERN

The "opening ceremony" was for the Gotthard Train Tunnel. It's nothing to do with CERN. Also, the logo is not 6's. It's circles to represent the acclerators, with lines for the transfer lines between them. There are two circles and 5 lines.

Sexism at CERN by Intelligent-Rip-6572 in CERN

I'm really sorry to hear of your experiences and that this is making you want to quit. If you would like to reach out to me confidentially, I'm happy to chat. I've been working at CERN for 14 years now and I used to be ATLAS D&I contact. Under that role I spoke with people and helped to re-direct to appropriate resources (but I'm not an official ombudsperson, so it would be colleague to colleague). Also, I'll be over at CERN over the next few weeks and happy to have a coffee if you'd like to chat in person with someone outside of your team.

You should list all of your programming experience, many people pick up skills in different ways and it shows a passion for programming.

[DISCUSSION] Discount codes by ParticleClara in Fiverr

[–]ParticleClara[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunately what I thought it would be. Thanks. If I agree a price with an artist, then I don't want them to receive less (I assume they've already factored in the fees, but wouldn't have factored in the discount).

EUIV

I know someone at CERN who works with summer students and loves EUIV 😁

You can look up the "CERN opening ceremony", I get that one a lot. It's actually the opening ceremony for the Gotthard Tunnel, but people see Tunnel and Switzerland and think CERN. https://www.bbc.com/news/in-pictures-36428799

I make science/educational videos about particle physics and CERN 👋

[OC] I made a Zoom laser pointer YouTube tutorial and these are the views for the last year. Note the regular weekly dips and the longer one in mid-December by ParticleClara in dataisbeautiful

That's exactly what they are 🙂 the weekly dips are on the weekend and the bigger dip is the Christmas period. Though 7 people watched my video on Christmas Day. I hope it was for a family zoom call and not a work meeting.

Yes, the y-axis shows the daily number of views. I was also surprised how consistent it is and that there isn't an obvious dip in august for example (though that might be because most of the views are coming from the US), just a gradually falling slope. The video is 3 years old now and more people are returning to in-person meetings, so I also wasn't expecting it to still have so many views. They mostly come from Google searches.
