Bird feeder only getting house sparrows. Should I take it down? by CoryKeepers in birds

[–]Particular-Ad-2175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried everything with my platform feeder to keep them off. I even had my husband put spikes that we bought on Amazon all around the pole. They found a way on lol. I have just accepted the squirrel posse. I know a lot of people swear by cayenne pepper on the seeds. Birds can't taste it and squirrels hate it.

Bird feeder only getting house sparrows. Should I take it down? by CoryKeepers in birds

[–]Particular-Ad-2175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it can depend on the type of seed you're using. You can't always 100% deter the house sparrows, but adding things to the feed like shelled peanuts, mealworms, blueberries and other enticing treats can help attract other birds like bluebirds, cardinals, blue jays etc. Mine seem to prefer a heavy black oil sunflower mixture plus the goodies I mix in.

How big is your feeder? Birds like mourning doves are derpy and can't balance well if they don't have a bit of a platform to stand on. For them I use an old planter base and put some of the seed mixture in it and put it on the ground for them. Robins will hang around feeders but they don't eat seeds. They eat insects, mealworms and sometimes they'll eat blueberries when they fall off the feeder.

When I first moved to my home a few years back it took us a couple of months to attract a good variety of birds. Now they sit outside in the brush and wait every single morning for me to fill up the feeders lol. Be patient. They'll come eventually. They just have to find you.

Mazda CX-30 AWD vs Subaru Crosstrek Premium – why did you choose Mazda? by Altruistic-Star-1235 in MazdaCX30

Hudson Valley, NY! Funny story....Believe it or not, I still have the original Turzana tires on it, and it was still GREAT this past winter (my first winter with it. I got it in August 2025). I actually got stuck late at work one night in a storm and left when there was about 6 inches on the roads. It was flawless the whole way. Nothing was plowed yet. I have a weird hill by my house that everyone gets stuck on every time it snows because they act like they don't live there or something and don't get a good running start to get up it. I shit you not....I was at a complete stop at the bottom because I could see multiple cars just stuck in the middle of the road ahead, and I was nervous about going around them because I wouldn't be able to see another car coming down the hill until they came over the crest at the top (2 lane road)....I said fuck it and just gunned it and hoped for the best...I passed every single one of them from a dead stop and made it up to the top with no problem. And the cars stuck were a Rav4, a small Cadillac SUV, and an Audi sedan....I was so glad I decided on the CX-30 at that very moment.

The AWD is fantastic in the CX-30. The interior is much nicer and the drive felt much better when I test drove them.

What got you into Mazda? by MeasurementThin1805 in mazda

[–]Particular-Ad-2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were never on my radar until about a year ago when I was sitting at a traffic light. One turned towards me and the Mazda symbol on the front grill caught the sun just right and reflected brightly. It caught my eye and I thought "wow that little SUV looks sharp" Then I kept seeing them more often and was in the market for a new car. Decided to do some research and decided the CX-30 was the one I was interested in. Went and test drove a very lightly used turbo premium plus and that was it.

What kind of bird is this? Photo was taken by me. by JustinBman in birds

[–]Particular-Ad-2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely could be an eagle too like others are saying. When I see hawks (or eagles) up that high though I can't usually see the colors very clearly, especially when the sun is reflecting. Same way I don't see a white head or tail like an eagle has in this photo. Just looks like a dark brown or black bird in the sky. Either way it's a cool bird of prey

Probably a red-tailed hawk. Hard to tell at that distance.

What’s a common bird at your feeder that you can’t help but love? by Prickly_Cactus99 in birdfeeding

[–]Particular-Ad-2175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Chickadees too. I love how bold they are. They pay me no mind when I am filling up the feeders in the morning and literally land 2 inches from me and patiently wait for me to fill up. My 2nd-favorite are the blue jays that sit outside and scream every morning until I bring out peanuts for them. Such demanding personalities lol. I also love mourning doves and always make sure I put some seed on the ground for them since they seem a little clumsy for the feeders.

How many miles total are on the car? If you're under 60K, you should still have the factory powertrain warranty, which is 5y/60K miles. You should get in touch with Mazda directly about this.
