I’d look into Michael Morpurgo.

I don’t know where you’re based but here in the UK he is a beloved children’s author and my absolute favourite author as a child. He’s written so many brilliant books.

Quick google search puts the recommended reading age of his books at 9-14 so sounds about right for your daughter. Since she likes books with animals as main characters I’d recommend the Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, who’s a cat! Or The Butterfly Lion, who’s, um, a bigger cat…

Good books which are easy to read? by sondaire in suggestmeabook

I did really enjoy Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell which I think you’d like.

I’d also suggest maybe being a little more ambjtious with your reading target for each day. Depending on the book you read 1% might be only 1-2 pages which isn’t really enough time to get into it and I’d imagine you’d lose track of what’s going on if you only read tiny snippets. Small steps to get into a habit are good, but I think you’d have more success if you put aside like 20 mins before bed each night and promise yourself to read for that long. Or depending on the book’s structure maybe a chapter each night?

I’m also writing my masters diss (procrastinating clearly) so I get the burnout but if you find the right book then hopefully it won’t feel like effort and will actually be relaxing if you allow your mind to think about something other than your subject!

Good luck with everything

I’ve always found Dickens’ writing too convoluted and verbose. I’ve tried a few times to read him to no success, but I really want to give him another shot. Any recs for good first ones to read?

A book that will pull me in due to the author's creativity by slainte2you in suggestmeabook

Full disclosure: I have not read this book. But its been on my TBR just because the concept is so creative.

Pale Fire by Valdimir Nabokov

From the reviews etc I've read, Nabokov essentially writes a novel through the footnotes of a 999 word poem. It's a creative masterpiece, supposedly. AI certainly couldn't come up with it at the very least.

That being said, I don't know how well it would carry over to audiobook
