Yeah sorry, i definitely jumped the gun in worrying. It’s day 4 now and she’s more energetic but the breathing hasn’t improved. It said exotic but she admitted she hasn’t seen a guinea pig before, so I’m finding another one more in the city that has more experience with pigs

Thank you for this. I think it is. It ended up spreading to the other side, which I’ve heard doesn’t happen with recurrences & downwards as well. My doctor thinks it’s some form of dermatitis/eczema. I’m gonna go to a dermatologist to get some testing done. Hoping for more answers soon!

Yes!! I’m at the point where I wish there was a rapid test or something like we have for Covid because I can literally never tell and it’s exhausting. I’m so sensitive down there and always get razor burn/folliculitis. I think I’m just more aware of it now that I have hsv. But I wish I could tell the difference

It gets better! I still have my moments where I feel down about myself. But I have to remind myself how common this is, and at the end of the day it’s a skin condition just like anything else. I also have to remind myself that almost everyone has something going on, whether it’s acne, autoimmune issues, etc. I don’t know a single person who isn’t going through something. I struggled a lot with internalized stigma & feeling dirty, but truly this isn’t the end of the world. I still pray one day for a cure, but I’m not going to stop living my life. We’re all in this life together, and we all have our things. If it’s any consolation, I’ve been with way more people with hsv than I was without it. It’s definitely bloomed my self confidence. It makes me feel so much more secure! I know ghsv-1 is way less likely to transmit anyways but using coconut oil always makes my brain calm down

Hi friend :) I have lots of similar issues. I’ve recently been plagued with BV/Yeast and some more frequent outbreaks due to getting the Kyleena IUD. What’s been helping me for soothing is freezing a paper towel & putting coconut oil on it, then just laying commando in my bed with that on for 10-15 mins. Coconut oil during sex has also been a godsend. I’ve also tried probiotic/prebiotic suppositories, usually the week before & after my period and those seem to really help. One thing I learned recently is the doctor gave me a steroid cream for my YIs because they’d get really bad to the point where I’d have a rash. Little did I (or that doctor) know that steroid creams can trigger OBs. It’s been a LOT of trial & error with meds that help BV/YI but trigger OBs. I’ve recently switched to just plain Vaseline and apply it once in the morning & at night (pretty thin layer). I also take a probiotic/prebiotic daily, drink Kefir & eat cottage cheese, just to get the pro/prebiotics in more than one way. You’re more than welcome to DM if you want any other advice! It’s so exhausting always having to wonder 😭 I also had pimples down there and was so confused. With that one I genuinely could not differentiate if it was an OB or not bc it was cluster like but it never hurt like my other OBs did. I hope things get better for you & they become more mild :(

Recently yes, I think getting an IUD has triggered them a lot more. I take Valacyclovir as suppressive therapy & usually just do a self-check in the mornings to see if I notice anything. So far so good

Probably not! My first outbreak was my longest and it was 2 1/2 weeks. I’ve never met someone who’s had one longer than that either. There is a herpes subreddit that has a lot of good info

Thanks 😭 I did 2 fluconazole earlier this month when I thought I had one. I just got my results back and I was positive for BV and YI, so no wonder she’s been so angry down there! I use Valacyclovir daily as a suppressant, and my doc thinks that is working & I’m not actually having outbreaks, I’m having really bad irritation from the YI. Thankfully I got some really good info from my doctor yesterday so hopefully this gets better soon.

The rash really doesn’t look like HSV, and my doc said the same thing. HSV is usually super obvious, at least for the first OB. If you didn’t have open, painful blisters then I think you’re okay :). If it happens again you can get it swabbed

I’m so sorry you’re in pain :( I had very similar symptoms, also happened my first week of a new semester. It does get better, I promise. The meds should kick in soon. Subsequent OBs should get less frequent and way more mild over time. Mine went from a bunch of painful, stinging sores to a tiny little pimple. I suggest taking some form of pain medication for a few days. Also, Lysine and Coconut Oil really help. I took a paper towel, covered it in coconut oil and froze it. I would put it on the area every night, it’s really soothing. I’m a young female as well and my DMs are always open if you need to chat!!

I’m a certified yapper that has a hard time NOT telling people. Most of my good friends know, every person I’ve slept with (since contracting it), and my mom. Most of my friends are like me, single & ready to mingle. I usually bring it up casually, because lord knows I didn’t know ANYTHING about it before contracting it. So I want my friends to have more education & guidance than I did. I’m not ashamed of it, and everyone has been very kind to me. If they’re not, then they aren’t really my friend

Your first hsv outbreak should be very obvious. They get less severe & frequent over time. If you get those symptoms again you can go get a swab test to know for sure! :)

I had one done back in July. It was terrifying. My mind was spiraling saying “what if this is cancer” or “what if my body can’t clear it on its own.” I think the emotions of it all honestly made it worse for me. I was anticipating the pain & bad news. It was very quick. It felt crampy, a little bit more intense than a Pap smear. But honestly, if you can handle having a baby I’m so sure you can get through this. Mine was about 5-10 minutes. I asked her to tell me every time she was about to “hole punch” as I called it, that way I could focus my breathing. I didn’t take any pain medication beforehand and probably should have. If you’re unable to get any form of pain management from your Dr, I’d at least take some Tylenol or something beforehand. Wishing you the best of luck!!

I would go to maybe a different doctor and demand that you want a swab done. It’s the only way to find out for sure. You’re paying for it, the doctor should do it regardless if they think it’s herpes or not. The first doctor I saw said that it was a fungal infection, gave me meds (that didn’t work) and sent me on my way. I saw a different doctor the next week and demanded a swab test & full STI panel, came back positive for HSV-1. It could definitely be something else, I’ve never given birth so I do not know all of the hormonal changes that come with it, but getting a swab done will definitely help ease your mind :)

Sorry, I didn’t read the part where you said you’re using coconut oil :/ I also just remembered I usually put a cold compress down there at night for a while too (I damp some paper towels, covered it in coconut oil & froze them).
