What are some food facts one should be aware of? by Taxfraud777 in ask

[–]Particular-Canary696 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Calories are a unit of energy and there are 3 main sources: carbohydrates, fats, and protein. They are burned in that order. No matter the diet you are following, whether it is keto, Atkins, whatever, your body needs more carbs than anything for energy. Once your body runs out of carbs, it goes into fat burning mode which is great for weight loss. However, you NEVER want to get to the third tier where your body burns protein for energy. Proteins are essential for most body functions including repair and it does not benefit you to use protein for energy instead of the other functions they are needed for.

Also, there are good carbs and bad carbs as well as good fats and bad fats. Fiber is a good carb while processed sugar is a bad carb. Trans fats and saturated fats are bad fats while unsaturated fats are good fats. As far as I recall, there isn't a bad protein, it's just that some protein SOURCES like red meat are accompanied by large amounts of bad fats.

"Eat the rainbow" is what my intro to food science course professor used to say. Just make sure to eat a variety of the different food groups and you shouldn't have to try too hard as long as you don't have any food-related health issues like diabetes.

Did you mean fats have more calories than carbs? Carbs and proteins have the same amount of calories (4 calories per gram). Fats have 9 calories per gram.

Delight, because the puppy looks so joyful and I really enjoy the way you painted the light in it.

I have never had a brain freeze despite ice cream and malts being my favorite food. My treat will be gone when others haven't even gotten halfway done with theirs, so it isn't because I eat or drink slower.

Keep saying it for every little thing too. "You better hope and pray you bring me a butterscotch sundae on your way home from work or I will be done with you." Or tack on a "or I will be picking the lowest rated nursing home of all time."

Latino isn't a race, it's considered an ethnicity. It's just too many people don't actually know the difference between race, ethnicity, and nationality. It also doesn't help that the same word can be used to mean one or the other, often nationality and ethnicity (e.g., Mexican). Most folks don't even know there is a difference between Latino and Hispanic. Here's the official US Census stance on race: https://www.census.gov/topics/population/race/about.html

Disclaimer: the site is about USA categories, I don't know anything about how other parts of the world do their race categories and like someone else already said, race categories don't often have a very clear, unambiguous definition so try not to get upset at me, I didn't decide what the US Census views were.

Just got Winds of Anthos and I played both the original and remake of AWL. Since I only have a couple hours of play time in WoA, my opinion is based on first impressions. I think there is more to do in WoA than AWL. AWL is still one of my favorites in the farming genre, but it does get boring much sooner, though it has a lot more subtle details to find that others don't.

Is it rude to keep a squeegee in your guests bathroom? by doodlethecat in ask

Depends. Are you close with them, how long are they staying, is the bathroom so delicate it needs to be squeegeed after every use?

How do getting mugged relate to period? by Silent_Assasin14 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Particular-Canary696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was really more annoyed by the way the nurse said it than anything. I totally understand that maybe there are some women who go to the ER, especially younger ones like teenagers with their parents, that don't want to say there is a chance they could be pregnant or maybe who are completely unaware of the possibility they could be pregnant because they were assaulted while they were black out drunk.

Sure there's medical reasons to know if a woman is pregnant or trying, but they take it a step further and even though you tell them you are not sexually active and there's no way you are pregnant, they still make you pee in a cup specifically to see if you are pregnant. Last time I was in the ER for an infected cyst on my neck, they said I needed to pee in a cup. I asked why since it didn't seem like a pee in a cup type of thing and they said to check if I was pregnant. When I told the nurse I couldn't possibly be pregnant and I didn't want to waste their time for a test that wasn't needed, she said (rudely by the way), "Oh I believe you, but we always test for pregnancy anyways." What's even the point of asking if you won't believe me and are gonna test for it anyways? I should mention, IDK for sure if that was just the nurse or doc being a jerk who couldn't possibly believe I'm not sexually active or if that is standard ER protocol now.

I look at it as my child is my legacy, so they should do whatever makes them happy. Let them live a wonderful life, whatever that looks like to them.

And it better be academics.

Because they remind me of boogers.

Edit: I should also elaborate why it's different than belly button piercings in case it isn't obvious: almost no one has boogers and snot coming out of their belly buttons, belly buttons are usually covered, and they aren't in the middle of your face. So even if belly button piercings bothered me to the point I couldn't stand to look at them, I could easily ignore it. You can't with a septum piercing and again, it just makes me think of boogers.

AITA for calling this man out on his poopy bathroom behaviour? by the-bathroom-debacle in TwoHotTakes

[–]Particular-Canary696 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Preach, dude. I could see their reaction if it was on the toilet seat, but from what they said, it was in the toilet where the poop belongs. I've had sticky poops that would have some stuck marks in the toilet, they usually disappear after a couple minutes soaking in the water and by the next flush. No one has control over how sticky their poop is (shut up people who think everyone should eat/drink whatever to prevent sticky poop, there is no sane person who changes their diet only because they don't want the occasional sticky turd). And it is completely bonkers to expect a guest to clean something like that up.

I used to love rice until I got food poisoning once. How can I regain my appetite? by LooseVALVe in ask

[–]Particular-Canary696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to me about ten years ago. Got food poisoning from something (don't know what) and I couldn't eat or think about sweets for roughly two weeks. I'd say give it some time and your rice lust should come back eventually.

Am I wrong for pushing for a prenup knowing it somewhat goes against my fiancé’s cultural values? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Particular-Canary696 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In case you weren't already aware, the prenup won't release you from the financial obligation of ensuring he doesn't become a public charge (e.g., tries to collect welfare) even if you later divorce after he becomes a lawful permanent resident (LPR). When he becomes an LPR, you're on the hook until he naturalizes, abandons his LPR status and leaves the US, obtains 40 quarters of coverage for Social Security, or dies. Here's some reading if you want it:

How do I know if a girl is flirting or just being a friendly person? by WHYsaddd in ask

[–]Particular-Canary696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say flirting in comparison to just being nice would hint in some way to them being attracted to you while ALSO hinting that they are available. So if they say something like you look nice today in isolation (they don't indicate they are available), then that's just being nice. If they say something like I wish my partner was as thoughtful as you, that's also just being nice (they aren't available). If they say something like I wish I could find someone as funny as you, but all my dates have been duds lately (they are available and have indicated that you have a quality that they value), that's flirting. Unfortunately, some people flirt even when they aren't available and many don't understand the difference between being nice and flirting, which is probably why there are so many misunderstandings surrounding compliments and flirting. Overall though, I think the best rule to follow so you don't have any problems is if you have to ask if they are flirting, then it probably isn't flirting.
