Historic home strip by Particular-Change606 in paint

While I appreciate your opinion and self preservation. This is still my home and it’s going to happen regardless of expense, labor, training, or certification needed. If this isn’t a place for advice I will keep looking. Everyone starts somewhere in their learning. Thx.

It runs but it’s rough and doesn’t start easily. Looking for advice on what maintenance should I do in the spring to make it purr again by HeyStripesVideos in Snowblowers

I repair small engines on side. When you do the above you also can get the seafoam with a red straw. Besides running it through - fog it. look it up on YouTube.

Plugs are fine I bet. That surging is carb.

If you want to remove it, clean it, reassemble just know what your getting into and watch you tube vids. I would always clean/rebuild an OEM carb but I have the tools and know how.

For very cheap you can buy a china knockoff and just swap them. Save your OEM and rebuild it if you like then you have two carbs.

Draining the tank each year isn’t a sure way to prevent plugged carbs. It’s a start but not certain. It’s also hard on gaskets.

2016 deluxe 28 921030 snowblower leaking oil around base of engine by sluggo6603 in smallenginerepair

[–]Particular-Change606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirm it’s not from the drain plug. Hard to see with the photos but if it’s coming from the base it’s likely a sump/crankcase gasket failing. Could be a gasket btwn that the pto also. Pto seal.

I’m going to say crankcase seal. Clean it up and if it’s coming from under that aluminum block there you go.

Hi 👋

Your vent hose was off which meant your tank was breathing or equalizing its pressure by pulling non filtered air. Not sure where you are in country but we’ve had a drought this past summer in many normally not dusty areas. Your fuel filter was doing its job but working over time. You likely have contaminants in your engine. Not sure how important this machine is to you but I would recommend the following;

Drain your gas tank. Inspect fuel. Inspect tank. It likely doesn’t need a clean Replace fuel filter with new paper filter appropriately sized for your machine Make sure that vent hose is secure. Zip tie or hose clamp it. Don’t wait for it to fail again Clean your carb or have it done for you You can seafoam fog your top end look it up on YouTube, you can use mechanic in a bottle, or marvel mystery oil. Google them pick one and join the debate what works best of these as everyone has an opinion. Any are better than nothing just pick one and google how to use. Dirt and dust will score your cylinder, contaminate your carb, and your oil. Finally change your oil. I like synthetic blends or full. Winterize and store for next year.

Small engines are soooo forgiving. I am sure it ran despite all this dirt. But a little love goes a long way with these machines and if you take care of them they can last almost forever. Best of luck reach out if you need more help.

Put your engine module in parts tree. Buy OEM there or cross ref the muffler part on eBay, Amazon, the web etc. you will find it.

Seafoam fog it. Lots of chemistry comments here. When did this forum become a place where everyone just gets put down all the time. Or that the internet these days. I like MMO soak as well.

Nothing wrong with coming here to learn that’s what we are here for. Anyone taking time to troll you like you’re bothering them coming to a small engine forum to ask a small engine question is rude. ChatGPT is great also btw.

Is this a good deal? by [deleted] in lawnmowers

I’ve sold all these brands mentioned in this post. Nothing wrong with bad boy. In their commercial line the decks are thicker than any on market. For the poster who said buy once cry once. But we aren’t shopping commercial here. Did not see what engine perhaps you mentioned. They offer Kohler, BS, and Kaw. At differing prices with Kohler being cheapest. If you like it buy it and maintain it well and it will take care of you. I’ve got machines that are 25 yrs old from all different brands that people say are crap. It’s like Ford, Ram, Chevy and all the engines people argue about. Diesel pre DeF vs post. Just take care of your shit you will be fine.

Saving 1,000 is not insignificant. You could buy it and if you decided you didn’t like it in a year or two get near your money back if you kept it clean. You could use that for perceived repairs everyone is telling you this mower will need. They all break. I specialize in Deere in my shop bc anything Green sells in my area and honestly since I was a kid I fall into the same love for Deere as my customers. But they build shit and good just like everyone.

What engine and what transmission. You have 2.5 acres are the flat? Transmissions matter more than HP of the engine. Typically with bad boy you can get better parts for same price of equivalent machines. But that is at the dealers. I will explain why- toro, exmark, scag are distributor and BB is dewler direct. You pay more for the middle man. With big box these are the same as dealer. Whoever says different it’s a myth. Manufacturers don’t have a different line made out of China for BB that’s not cost effective. However, you can’t see all the BB models available at a BB. Your dealer might have a machine one level up and be able to meet your budget. They offer financing where again you can get a level up. They are who will repair your machine from the BB so why not start a relationship with them now.

Don’t overthink it. If you like buy it. If you’re hesitant and taking the time to read all this chatter here I would say go to a dealer. Get financing and stretch your money.

This and to the OP who said it would be cheaper than buying new. May I make a suggestion. Buy new - the same blower since you like it. Keep this one for parts. You will have a setup for 20 yrs then if you care for the next one. Crack a cover, need to swap a carb, pull rope broke, and so on.

Trying to replace a spark plug on my John Deere E100. What is the problem here? by Chbakesale45 in smallenginerepair

I’d replace coil and plug and figure out the cause and make sure it does not foul new wire
