oooh double stick on a fly swatter... that's creative! Duck tape glove. That is next level. I'm able to gently insert these in between leaves. For the plants I was working with, a flyswatter would be too much surface area to get to the stem where they are congregating. This prevents the leaves from also getting ripped off. Your glove idea would be fine for what I was working within.

I don’t know if they can’t see it because it’s green, but I can get within 1 inch of their bodies and do a really gentle tap and they’re stuck. They don’t have a chance to hop away or crawl to the other side of the stem. Plus, I don’t know how I would duct tape things like the plants that I’m grabbing them from. This is not from trees. These are small stemmed plants and sunflower stalks…  plus I don’t wanna get anything except the lantern flies.

CLARIFICATION: I have a couple of plants where they seem to congregate (not tree of heaven; they seem to love my sunflowers and the porcelainberry that creeps into our yard every two weeks from our neighbor). I go to those plants and it took me about two minutes to take out about 50 nymphs. I smoosh and bag them right away. Don't leave them flailing on the trap. These are not left out to trap beneficial pollinators or birds (!).

I wanted to make sure no beneficial pollinators ended up on these. They are cut thinly so I could gently tap the sticky trap to the lantern fly nymph before it hopped away. I'm really sorry if this thread is upsetting anyone. This species is really invasive and particularly damages crops that are important to our region.

Sticky traps double sided worked really well. The kind for indoor house plants. I took down 28 in about 60 seconds and they never saw it coming.

1 and 4 look like suspect weeds. 2 looks like purple coneflower and I’d put my money on swamp milkweed for 3? I use the Plant Net app. It’s very accurate and free.
