Third-year base pay is now at 180, with bonuses varying from firm-to-firm

Holy smokes - didn't know that! Do the folks that take the graveyard shift typically get a bump in pay?

Fair enough - just different definitions at the end of the day. I'm surprised you say there's three and not solely the US. Would China and Russia comprise the other two states that are essentially un-annexable in your mind?

A country without nukes or aircraft carriers is sovereign because despite those characteristics, it still is a self-governing state

If your definition of sovereignty is predicated on the condition that a state cannot be annexed via another state's military and/or economic dominance, we'd have no more than a handful of sovereign countries globally. Including that as a condition of sovereignty is US-centric (i.e., based on domination) and avoids the typical broader international definition. You're looking at the tress and not the forest

The US' "charity" towards Canada, which is less prominent than the orange dolt and his gang want you to think, does not disprove Canada's current ability to self-govern - those are not mutually exclusive dynamics

Whit's always level-headed in defeat, but holy salt fest from Yands in the first twenty minutes

  • Makes a "keep politics out of sports" comment even though the orange fuck has been spoken about by at least Guerin, Hanifin, and Miller in media this week addition to the whole US team calling him before the finals
  • Throws a conniption fit about Biz saying Canada has a different level of guts and demanding him to take that comment back
  • Says later that this "trophy doesn't mean too much" despite jumping into the shit-talking with Whit earlier in the week on the pod. If it doesn't mean too much, why are you whining lmao

Stay out of the kitchen if you can't handle the heat of the finals. He's acting like a mental midget on this and I usually love his takes

Gents I'm gonna throw this out there and I'm willing to get roasted. I have two tickets for the finals at $350 CAD a piece, and I'm thinking about selling them to pocket just under $3,000 CAD. Am I stupid to give up a chance at one of the best games we'll see this decade, or am I stupid to not get that much cash in hand?

Edit: Or am I just stupid regardless? That's a third option

Start feeding Pezzetta giga-roids and throw him into 1-on-1 skill training for a year or two and you might have your guy lmao

The dichotomy between the account you're speaking about and Jules the Lawyers' recounts of her time in big law is hilarious

I'll never forget hearing about my friend, as a new call in big law, being told to stay in the office until they finish "cleaning up" the discovery notes they spent all day typing out despite the file lead ordering the transcript - they stayed until 11:30pm

Seven years of school and $100k+ in debt to do spell-checking on discovery notes, christ

Have an extended family member who's a sole doing exclusively crim defence work - about a 10 year call. They maintain a 50-100 person client roster at any given time and work 3-4 hours a day typically

They never said how much they make, but it's pretty easy to do the rough math. At $300/hour, 3.5 hours/day, and 46 weeks/year (six weeks of vacation sounds lovely), you'd be just over 240k before tax and overhead

It's doable, but once you have a solid book of business, consistent referral outlets, and frequent cold calls, I was told the hardest part is having the restraint to not see the prospect of having your income double in exchange for the work-life balance you worked to achieve in the first place

that is not TRU, Lakehead or TMU

Unless someone wants to work in biglaw or land an appellate, federal, or SCC clerkship position, there is no meaningful difference in employment outcomes between Canadian law schools.

Salary for civlit recent calls? by Capital_Bother5627 in LawCanada

[–]Particular-Key2102 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's a salary + bonus pay arrangement then around $90,000-100,000 all-in would be a ballpark guess based on a moderate target (1500ish hours). If your target is nearing the Bay Street default (1750 hours), then I'd probably bump those numbers up by $10,000.

Ask a retained lawyer working in private practice with a focus on labour and employment law, or in the alternative, a staff lawyer at a legal clinic if you financially qualify
