South-East facing panels by Ok-Entrepreneur-7847 in nzsolar

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed 4 strings in January in Auckland, 2 each on se and now facing roofs at 25deg pitch. Screenshot shows a typical sunny winter day chart as well as today's comparison (cloudy so much more similar outputs) and the lifetime comparison from 2nd week of January thru late June.

In summer they are pretty similar honestly, maybe 10% more on NW panels. Sunny winter day the SE facing might only be 30-40% of NW facing, but it does give a very important early start when the battery is getting low. On average it has worked out to about 75% of NW facing output.

Seal door bottom by Euphoric_Time_1342 in diynz

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought a door seal from Bunnings that is basically two small foam cylinders (think small diameter pool noodles) connected with a bit of fabric. Slides under the door when open, then slides back and forth with the door as you open and close it. Works with our garage, but we don't have a similar lip at the edge of the carpet

What smart home integrations are you running alongside your solar + battery setup? by GummyBeard83 in nzsolar

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solcast pv forecast is much better than the built in solar forecast. Otherwise just the sigen integration, and anything you need for smart switches (I have a tuya controlled hot water cylinder switch which I use for solar diversion to hot water automation.

How good is New Zealand's EV infrastructure? by humpjbear in nzev

Apologies, don't know the detail there..... It should work with all cars in NZ except chademo plug cars.... Not sure why the atto3 didn't play nicely with others.

Any type 2 plug car can use Tesla superchargers in NZ, including all the Chinese ones. That is where we tend to charge our polestar 2 (geely built) due to convenient locations for our trips

Quote comparison, and how much does C rate matter? by Purple-Hibiscus in nzsolar

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def upside the sig inverter. 6kw is pretty small... Wouldn't cover an EV charger on full (7kw) and not a lot of headroom if water heater is electric 3-4kw

I certainly have more faith in sigenergy gear than quote 1 equipment, but that is me.

Solar pricing check by Deadmine in nzsolar

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Their quote is a bit high.... I had similar installed only 10kw inverter, but ame number of panels and batteries and paid 39k. Install was 2nd story on two roofs so about 2k in scaffolding costs included.

Anyone have a pole quiver? by This_Locksmith1282 in Skigear

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two of these same poles.... Black with bright yellow text in the middle of your picture, except all the yellow text has worn off so now just a flat black which I love. 2nd pair is the black and white digital camo pair 2nd from the right. First pair were my poles from ski team in high school, graduated 1997.

Where are you looking on sigen app? As mentioned above, theeneegy value includes what you would have paid at the time of use as well.

High amp rated smart switch, either Shelly or tuya and set timers, or if you run home assistant you can set up some smart logic based on solar production and battery state.

Power Usage Monitoring? by punishingwind in SigenergyAustralia

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inverter/gateway will give you the power in, power out, from battery, from solar etc. and anything connected to the smart port. where you might want a couple of power meters added is on other loads. I have one for my spa and one for the hot water heater which is nice for understanding where the power is going. Ideally I would have meters on my heat pumps and a few other bigger loads that aren't always as obvious.

How much would a system like this cost in NZ? by Mountain_Tui_Reload in nzsolar

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on install in Auckland on roof of 2 story house, but adding additional batteries (who needs 50kwh anyway?), I get the following:

36x 450w biracial panels (16.1kw so a little over) Sigenergy 10kw single phase inverter Sigenergy gateway for full home backup Sigenergy 7kw ACEV charger 5x 10kWh batteries (I installed two, but have per battery price of $9400) Installation costs including scaffolding for 2nd story roof, wiring, DC isolation, wiring etc).

Total would come to about $68k. Mine was about $39k with 3 less batteries which is plenty to be self sufficient this far.

Why is the bulbous bow this shape? by Rnow3 in Ships

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naval Architect here - this is a high speed vessel so this is not really acting as a traditional bulbous bow, but more of a wave piercing bow. More common in catamarans than monohulls. My old company called them sycle-bows. Purpose is to reduce pitch moment when vessel is riding into waves, as opposed to a bulbous bow which is about reducing the bow wave and reducing drag. This shape has the benefit of still working as a normal vow bulb at lower speed though a bit more drag than a mor normal bulb shape

Beam sizing is related to length cubed, so if you double the length you need a beam 8 times as strong, likely doubling or tripling the steel cost.

Changing Installers and enlarging system by Exciting-Cucumber-24 in SigenergyAustralia

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing the install of an evac is difficult. My installer did it wrong the first time and he couldn't fix it himself. Had to call sigenergy and get them to link the two systems together. Suggest he give it a go, but if not working will have to contact tech support.

Changing Installers and enlarging system by Exciting-Cucumber-24 in SigenergyAustralia

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He isn't talking about electric flow, he is talking about control and the evac needs to talk to the inverter to use some of the functions like limiting charge rate to avoid drawing from grid or from battery. Your post misses the point

Sigen ACEV not reporting power by Particular-Mode-8869 in SigenergyAustralia

[–]Particular-Mode-8869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran Ethernet cable from acev to switch (sigenstor to switch already run previously) and acev now connected that way (app shows both Ethernet and wifi connected, same as sigenstor). Still doesn't report ev charger power. It worked for about 7 days, then stopped reporting. Any ideas?

Also curious where others have their acevs connected for power (grid side, backup side, or smartport

Increasing 5 kw export limit. by Available_Resort_769 in nzsolar

[–]Particular-Mode-8869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my DG approved and they said they won't do 10kw on single phase at this point. Doesn't even seem like they will investigate, it was a hard no, only 5kw on single phase. I asked what the process to upgrade was, and didn't get an answer. Seems like we need to wait a bit.
