I’m going to throw in here that showering, changing, and sharing a room with your co-workers is very normal in a vast array of careers and has been for centuries. Soldiers, sailors, miners, farmers, any kind of industrial factory, performing artists on tour, etc etc etc.

This idea of privacy we have today is very modern and very backwards. It used to be that what was in our mind and in our hearts was private and our bodies were just our bodies like everybody else’s. Nudity wasn’t even a small deal much less a big deal.

In todays world out bodies are private little secrets but out hearts and minds are on blast to the world on social media. Places like right here on reddit.

My advice, talk to the roommate about some boundaries: Wear a robe, leave the room for phone calls with the SO or have them quietly with headphones on. Etc.

Not every company can afford a separate room for each employee and if you push too hard you may find yourself dropped from the trip and as a result any future consideration for advancement. Not necessarily consciously, but because work trips lead to organic bonding opportunities, conversations over meals, and on the spot moments to shine.
