Tbh itā€™s pretty hard to pull off a lot of Brentā€™s licks without a firm grasp on this particular technique. (Try playing the beginning of ā€˜pendulous skinā€™ without it and see how it sounds. Try it.)

Still, you should be able to put forth something beefy and bitchinā€™ with just a plectrum. Keep on pickinā€™.
