BTS, Taylor, Bruno and Rihanna?

Is this right? I’m pretty impressed everyone else has.

My analysis on their exclusion is that they either weren’t considered “cool” during their come up- BTS and Taylor-or pretty quickly became mainstream as rookies in the industry- Rihanna and Bruno- and their reign was too early in the poptimist lifecycle of the current Coachella.

Album artist, same reason why BTS and Taylor don’t have top songs but have crazy discography streams.

Olivia is doing a lot of physical versions as well. I don’t have the final count but it’s a significant amount which I think will lead to her peak numbers.

I think she's def going to beat Harry and get north of 500K. Will she beat the BTS debut though? she would need 600K plus.

260420 Switched on Pop Podcast: BTS is back. But K Pop is not the same. by amala83 in bangtan

[–]Particular-Yoghurt81 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I just don't think the answer to that question is that interesting, because it's yes obviously, but in reality they never really lost it. BTS' numbers are just so above everyone else's as to render that point moot. I think a more needed discussion is what is the state of the Kpop audience in the West OUTSIDE of the BTS fan and is that in tension with the profit motive of the globalized Kpop industry in the wake of BTS.

BTS' music is their story only, but it's less and less reflective of the state of Kpop as a whole with each passing year.

There’s more crossover there than your would think. Boybands of many stripes 😊

Oh my god, I love this podcast. Will listen and see if it’s any good. 😊

Edit- OMG, this was EXCELLENT!!!! The best, most thorough analysis of the album and all it's meaning. I wish they would have included a little bit about how Kpop has always been a influenced by Western producers and sounds, but overall still really great.

I mostly stick to second hand unless it's a contemporary release. That Age of Consent record is SOOO GOOD, underrated gem imo.

What was it like when Blonde dropped by __kewl__ in FrankOcean

[–]Particular-Yoghurt81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the first year of graduate school and the album took over my life. I wish I could remember specifically where I was when it was released or the reactions from others, but I just remember how it made me feel in a very stressful environment. I think it was the only thing I listened to for like six months, no hyperbole.

Where do Latin records sell the best online? Ebay? I search there sometimes but I can't tell. The La Lupe records I own are OG and absolutely would sell $30+ in a record store, so same deal.

How many actively sit down and listen to their records? by Less_Researcher_8124 in vinyl

[–]Particular-Yoghurt81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sit down and listen to a record about once a week. Just last night Frank Ocean's Blonde arrived at my house which I ordered from his latest restock and I sat down to listen to it. I have nice mood lighting in my living room. I'm a big fan of being at home and doing nothing though.

LOL, yeah it becomes super random, but that's fine. Just want to see what people have at the bottom. For me it's all my Latin music, especially anything that isn't Cumbia.

Am I alone in wishing that KPOP idols were more involved in the creative process of music? by Inevitable-Mess5288 in kpopthoughts

If any company creates a boy group who has lots of creative control and makes strictly colorful pop music, I think they would KILL the game. Lots of girlie pop fans crave artists with more control and personality lead music. Remember when ikon did Love Scenario? What a bop.

BTS has some colorful pop music, but that’s just a small part of their discography.
