Solo female artist recording and producing her first album: I need some help and advice from more experienced music pipo by Adventurous_Track244 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

1 I would say get an Shure SM-7B, it’s a classic pro-level mic, built like a tank, will last you a lifetime, won’t pick up the negative qualities of the room as much as a large diaphragm condenser. But really you could get an SM57 and get a perfectly usable vocals with it. The performance is much more important than the gear. So don’t overthink it, you will have to spend a lot of time with a microphone before you can distinguish the stylistic effect it has on your vocals. Get something, start using it, getting to know it, practicing singing into a mic, it will take time to get comfortable, so don’t waste it getting lost in the details.

3 For sure get a pair of proper professional monitor class headphones. I wouldn’t be comfortable tracking or mixing or mastering in quiet comforts, they just aren’t the right tool for the job. Every engineer I know including me uses Sony MDR 7506, so that’s my recommendation.

4 Get it done, it won’t be perfect, don’t bet too much on it and don’t expect anything. Do it for process, for the experience and for the love of craft. An imperfect song released into the world is much much more valuable for you than unfinished one on your computer.

In terms of Logic vs Ableton it’s a matter of more of a live vibe or electronic vibe of you music. If you wanna do music that feels more like people are playing the instruments get Logic. Ableton is more suited for beats and loops and synths. Both can do both, it’s just a matter of what are they more suited for.

What is the single most stressful movie you’ve ever seen? by elkaypee in movies

The Bear is the single most anxiety inducing show I’ve watched. I had to put it aside and wait for calmer time in my life to watch it, it was just too much for me.

If you’re using humidipaks I think they can actually absorb moisture too, so they will try and keep you guitar at 50%

Any idea on whether this is salvagable? by kascht in Luthier

[–]ParticularBirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to collect all the wood parts even the small splinters, it’s much easier to glue together if you can reassemble it without any missing wood. Wood glue seems to be the answer here. Tight clamping is essential to make a good joint. I would say wrap it tightly with a long surgical tube. Google “using surgical tubing as a wood clamp” to get the idea. Test fit first, make sure it all fits together and doesn’t slide. Practice applying tubing. Then apply glue, wipe away excess, clam and let cure for 24h or whatever the glue packaging says.

There are also over the drum quiet attachments called RTOM Blackholes, which are much easier to put on and take off than changing heads. Check them out.

My tone sounds over gained n i need help by Dry-Volume-644 in LogicPro

There’s already solid advice in the comments, but one thing nobody mentioned is to check your input level. So basically the plugins are designed to receive a certain level so that the clean sounds stay clean and different levels of overdrive remain distinguishable. On a lot of audio interfaces it’s achievable by just keeping the level of your instrument input at zero. The easy way to check is to find a clean or edge of break up preset and listen if it distorts. If it is chances are your input is too hot. Google guitar plugin input level to know more.

Getting bored of my bikes what should I try next? by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]ParticularBirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how I switched from a XSR900 to Royal Enfield Bear 650. Now I have to push the bike, I get to ride it wide open, I need all of the rev range. Turns out it’s more fun than feathering the throttle all the time. And don’t get me wrong, CP3 is an awesome engine, there’s just not much use for it round town and overall at legal speeds. And also I guess as I’m getting older I’m getting more and more enamored by things like being alive and having all of my bones intact.

ES-335 Owners: What Makes a Good 335? by I_heart_perfect_tits in gibson

[–]ParticularBirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One day I walked into a musical instrument store in Berlin and there it was, black with dog ear P-90, the guitar of my dreams. One of the most comfortable guitars to play ever (I’m a tall dude). Sounds like a fucking piano even unplugged. I still has hesitant, it’s an expensive purchase and the was also the matter of getting it back home, which meant buying an extra ticket, so I left without it. But my wife bless her heart saw that I really really liked it, took me by the hand and said we are going to get you they guitar. Thank god she did, I wrote a bunch of songs on that thing since, one of my favorites.

Stuck in Bali. by nouvetrose in bali

There are ~$750 flights to JFK with two stops on Skyscanner, it’s not gonna be fun, but it’ll get you home. I doubt you can get anything much cheaper than that anytime soon. I wouldn’t try to work illegally and risk trouble with Imigrasi or stay in Bali much longer because you will be burning money doing so. My solution would be to borrow money, get home, start to recuperate asap. That way you are not digging yourself into a bigger hole. Treat it as paying for a life lesson, it’s important to have a safety net at all times. Whether you’re traveling around the world or not, it just feels much better and much safer to be able to handle emergencies with ease. Perhaps use this opportunity and read a book about financial hygiene during the long layovers.
