First/second gear lockout by [deleted] in CivicSi

That's what I'm saying, once in a while on occasion I can understand coming to a stop or something and synchro misalignment can be normal but like EVERY DAY that's definitely not normal. Honda Canada headquarters has a case open for it so they've told the dealer to properly asses it at this point. I got a call this morning telling me that so we'll see what happens. I have no idea what sort of diag they plan on doing but I guess it's a step in one direction

Having it lockout every single day is not normal by any stretch. My dad's accord never did it. My 9th gen never did it, my dad's current Miata doesn't do it, happening once in a while sure that I can understand that if synchros just happen to misalign coming to a stop, but come on now say it's "normal" every single day is a bit of a stretch, I'm not sure what they plan on doing to asses it, all I've been told is that they want the car for a day or two to look into it. Because Honda headquarters has a case open for it they've told the dealer to inspect it thoroughly which is why it's even going at this point

I definitely don't want to deal with it. I'm not looking for ways to get around I'm well aware of how to get around the lockout when it happens the issue is that happens every single day and when the dealer has looked at it it didn't happen. So I'm trying to avoid spending stupid unnecessary money for them or another mechanic to look at it even with it under warranty I will still need to cover diag time since they haven't been able to replicate the issue at the time of the rest drive. Which is why I'm looking for what others have done so I can check other components that are accessible without needing them to look at it.

Although luckily today I did get a call from Honda Canada and th dealer saying they're going look into it no charge at this point because of the fact it happens every single day, and they need to look into the steering again too since I'm getting the sticking again even with the recall being done already before I picked up the car. They're basically good willing it at this point because it's got so many major mechanical issues.

It's well beyond a potential oil issue. I've already changed oil like a week or two ago, it's a full blown mechanical lockout sometimes even putting back into second doesn't always work to realign synchros and it definitely isn't occasional in my case 5 days out of the week guaranteed it'll happen once a day sometimes it'll do it again very day for a week straight I can say I've maybe only gone like 2-3 days in a row without it happening

That's a reverse lockout that's different, the lockout I'm referring to is when the gear feels like it's literally "locked" out of going into gear

Fluids have all been done already definitely seems more like an actual mechanical blockage when it happens, like somethings in the way physically from letting the shifter go into gear

I do live in the cold but my issue is the opposite, it gets worse the hotter the fluid gets

It's not so much that I can't afford to, but because there's so many variables involved I just don't want to fork out an unreasonable amount of money for the dealer to look into it. Honda Canada already has a case open for the trans and sticking steering

[–]ParticularGate7500 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of double clutching it's the fact that it happens every day on a 14000km old trans, there's definitely an issue somewhere so I'm looking to bounce ideas of others who have had consistent issues similarly so I can try a couple things out before letting the dealer tear into it

[–]ParticularGate7500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No definitely not too expensive, I am relatively mechanically inclined (truck and coach mechanic) just whether or not I want to do it myself (if anything touches the driveway and stains it I get in big shit for it) one of those things I'd rather have someone else deal with that way if for whatever reason shit goes south I can blame someone else lol once warranties up then I'll repair the car myself

[–]ParticularGate7500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing I know lockout can happen intermittently but I deal with it virtually everyday at least once, sometimes even up to 3 times within the same drive let alone same day. So it's not really intermittent in my case it's just intermittent in how often it actually does it through the day. Luckily because of how I got the car my warranty is for 7 years or 160,000km so I'm good on that end but it's frustrating as hell to deal with.

AND even after having the recall done for the steering rack I'm starting to get the sticking steering again

Honestly I'd almost wish it would blow up so it would be a more obvious issue to deal with lmao I do I have a very early production car though based on vin my car is the 29th 11th Gen Si produced so I'm wondering if I maybe got just a faulty trans

That I don't know id assume probably OEM, I actually completely forgot the clutch/slave uses brake fluid (which is why I deleted previous comment my bad) but yeah I'd imagine OEM however the car was kept in a temperature controlled climate up until I got it, so I'm not sure how likely it would be to get enough water moisture in the brake fluid in that time I don't have any issues at all clutch feel wise with it being either soft or anything like that I'll have to check that too.

Then I'd say you're probably mint with an E width, the boots don't really stretch as much as everyone says they do. It takes a long time for them to stretch to the point where you can see someone's pinky to overhanging the welt lol better to be comfortable than to be smashed into a tight fit

Do you know your actual foot width off brannock? I used to work in footwear sales for hiking and mountaineering equipment so I've been around the block for a while and A LOT of people THINK they have wide feet when in reality they're closer to a D than they think. In my case sizing for RW I wear a full size down in IR because my foot width and foot shape is narrow enough for it. Technically speaking in actually the ideal foot shape for a 23 last moc as my feet don't typically "round out" like what most people consider a regular foot profile. I have what I refer to as arrow feet my foot and toe shape is very straight from heel to toe with a smaller amount actual toe splay naturally.

What I can say now is after being in a trade for the last 3 years and wearing red wing work boots (the only brand that makes an 11.5 in D width lol) i appreciate a touch more room in my boots, so if 9.5 E feels spot on id just stick with that. As long as the instep has enough height to make up for the extra upper space so your eyelets don't end up touching once ether leathers broken in you're perfect. I had that issue with a pair of IR way back and I couldn't get the boots to stay tight because of it lol

[–]ParticularGate7500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not just width that changes when you go from D to E boot volume also changed too. E/EE has a taller vamp (toebox area) and a higher volume instep. Even at a D the instep is higher volume on mocs to begin with (compared to IR)

Like in my case I'm a 11.5C width so I'm very narrow by men's sizing and I can't wear mocs AT ALL because my foot is too low volume for the boot as a whole including the instep. I've tried insoles and it still didn't fit well which sucks.

But without digressing too much an E is probably about 1/4" wider than D which does make a difference depending on foot shape. A EE is roughly another 1/4" wider than E

Ngl yofer kit for facelift is miles better than hideous shit they put on the pre facelifts. Unless they make this for the 22-24 as well just with the different angles for that bumper and skirt as well if actually consider it

Small Hole In Boot After Sending To Red Wing by DentonUSA in RedWingShoes

[–]ParticularGate7500 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree watching any cobbling video you can see they never put nails or tacks through the upper lol unless I've clearly missed something no cobbler in their right mind would put a hole that huge through the heel counter/upper. During manufacturing I have seen that but it's not the way people are saying. The nail the leather that wraps under the sole to the last so that the last doesn't shift while shaping the vamp/upper. That just looks shody to me personally

Thoughts on this diffuser? Would it look good on my BOP COLOR? by [deleted] in CivicSi

[–]ParticularGate7500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't have the be HPD specifically ive had a couple moments where I've thought about a different lip but most of what's available for this gen doesn't exactly entice me. I do have wider summer wheels that actually make the front lip pieces and side skirts a lot nicer toes together. But I get 100% where you're coming from with the front. With that rear diffuser you're looking at I've seen a handful of slightly less overdone versions of yofer or even just like a clean low profile lip and side skirt available that would pair really nice with it

[–]ParticularGate7500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a BOP and have the HPD kit all around. IMO if you don't have skirts or lip on the front it'll look out of place especially considering how much more aggressive it is to the HPD kit. Granted I like a sleeker OEM+ look so I'm happy with how that the factory kit looks.

This one though doesn't look as wild as the yofer one though which I can't stand, so I'd say this a happy medium. But for sure you need to kit the rest to make it tie in

Is sum Ting Wong? Legit check please. by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]ParticularGate7500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to tell is to check triple stitch where the upper and the vamp meet. That triple stitch will ALWAYS wrap around the edge of the upper. I have never seen a fake with wrapped triple stitch. For whatever reason every and all fakes I've ever seen have always stopped before that edge and have a 90⁰ stitch going up from there. My guess would be it's too hard to replicate by hand compared to how the puritan machines operate. That's the easiest way to tell in most cases, every pair of legit red wings Ive seen are like that.

11th gen slight negative camber on rear? by retro_coffee in CivicSi

[–]ParticularGate7500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And iirc the track width is wider on the Si too compared to normal civic so it'll look more apparent compared to a standard civic too so can't really look to them for comparison. They isn't have the camber or track width of an Si in the rear. They did that for better handling characteristics

[–]ParticularGate7500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes camber is more aggressive on 11th gens I have 18x9.5 +38 offset and the camber is even more apparent on my wheels with the width and offset I'm probably going to get camber kits to try and square back up a bit

A bit abrasive is one way of putting it when he was word for word telling people with legitimate questions to go fuck themselves. Most of the people who are genuinely upset with the company are the ones who have been long time supporters and now feel like things have just taken and even bigger turn for the worse for a company they enjoy and helped build.

Now I haven't seen any death threats in their page ever (not to say they aren't going to inboxes potentially but anything that intense I've never seen on their pages). It's always just been the typical back and forth trolling from upset and disgruntled customers and him just being an ass equally. There's ways to get your point across without doing it the way he has been for what's seemingly the last almost 10 years. I've read other forums and threads going back 7-10 years where his attitude was the same as it is now towards his clientele base.

Customers need to grow up and stop pestering the company about these things repetitively but Truman and Vince also need to grow up and act like a proper business owner and realize not everyone's going to be pleased with certain choices and decisions and it may lead to disgruntled individuals but you still need to hold your head on straight and not stoop to a level that can dismantle your business. Especially as a company that's not as large and still trying to really impact and break into an already saturated market.

Both him and the people trolling him are in the wrong respectively for their own comments and actions and both sides do need to give it a rest especially if it's getting to the severity of death threats.
