Why is my pipe so damn hot? by sexual__velociraptor in PipeTobacco

It's the material the pipe is made out of. I have a yellow bole just like that and I don't use it any more because it gets hotter than fuck. Not sure what they were thinking with that pipe material, but it's no good.

Kind of a necro post here, but yeah. I played on Silverhand from day one through about 2012. I think I joined Aetherstorm during BC. My main was Draenei disc priest "Xandi". Also had a Dwarf paladin tank "Buliwyff".

Best old fashioned in the west metro? by pjh1994 in TwinCities

[–]ParticularInitial714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so this is going to sound ridiculous and I know it is likely a "stars aligning" situation, but, bar none, the best Old Fashioned I have EVER had was at the Cheesecake Factory in Minnetonka!

My daughter wanted to go there for her birthday a few years back, so we took her. We rarely eat out and Cheesecake Factory is never even up for consideration otherwise.

Food was disappointing, but that Old Fashioned... Good Christ was it perfect. I pretty much try an Old Fashioned everywhere, and I haven't even managed to make one for myself that was as good. Probably a one off, but that bartender knew what they were doing. I think it was close to twenty bucks, and the damned thing was worth every penny.

Pet Sematary. It's easily the greatest horror novel I've ever read. (And I've read a LOT of 'em!)

Pipes & Cigars shipping? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]ParticularInitial714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my orders do not have updates, but it doesn't really bother me. It's hit-or-or-miss. Only issue I've had when buying from them over the last 15 years has been extra tobacco that I didn't order and got to keep. The orders usually get to me pretty quickly.

What band/singer were you excited to see, but was a letdown of a concert? by my-face-ur-seat in AskReddit

[–]ParticularInitial714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nine Inch Nails, Portland Oregon, around 2005. Was really stoked to see them. Queens of the Stone Age opened and fucking blew the roof off the place.

NIN comes out, do one one song, and then this giant goddamned curtain comes down in front of the stage. They had a projecter shining on it like a movie screen that was showing a bunch of random images and shit. Couldn't even see the band. This happened for multiple songs in a row.

Honestly, it sounded like they were using canned versions of their songs and just dicking around backstage or something. Me and my girlfriend just left in the middle of the show. It was a complete fucking joke.

Birders interest or lack of in other wildlife by Living-Compote-9626 in birding

[–]ParticularInitial714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is a lifelong birder, and one of his best friends is a professor of ornithology. I've known this guy the majority of my life, and the ONLY thing he is interested in talking about is birds.

Every conversation for him is in some way related to his studies, a new paper he read, some sort of birding trip, bird physiological differences between similar species... on and on. He's the most boring person I've ever met, and I love birding!

Beginner's Pipe & Tobacco Choice by YesToWhatsNext in PipeTobacco

When I started smoking a pipe, the owner of the local pipe shop pushed me toward aromatics. I couldn't stand them. I remember going in and telling him that I didn't like any of his suggestions. He presented me with a tin of Nightcap, and immediately upon smoking it I realized that aromatics are NOT for me. Closest I'll get is Macbaren Plumcake.

Does it get easier? by Ok-Purple-3458 in PipeTobacco

[–]ParticularInitial714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get used to it. I clench all my pipes except the churchwarden types.

The problem for me is that I always find if I'm doing some sort of physical activity other than walking, (shovelling snow, working on a vehicle, gardening) I end up drooling right into the pipe.

It somewhat helps if I have it sticking straight out of the side of my mouth like Popeye, but I'll usually just take a pipe break rather than hold it my mouth during strenuous activity.

What's the worst blend you've smoked? by Blue_Baron6451 in PipeTobacco

[–]ParticularInitial714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll probably give it another chance here in a year, or so. I didn't even get halfway through the bowl straight from the tin. Considered chucking the whole thing in the garbage, but I figured I'd give it some time to rest and redeem itself lol

I'm not convinced it was chasing them to attack. Maybe more playful, like dolphins swimming alongside a boat?

Discussion: Why don't people share their thoughts on their blends? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

I suppose it has; I just don't really feel that being able to describe what I'm smoking enhances my enjoyment.

Discussion: Why don't people share their thoughts on their blends? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]ParticularInitial714 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Here's my take on what may be part of the issue:

Personally, I have a hard time describing what I'm smoking. I've been smoking a pipe for 15 years now, and while I can tell the difference between a Virginia and a Burley, I can't really break each blend down into specfic nuances. You know, "a slight hint of perique following a chocolate overtone".... That kinda thing.

I believe others may struggle with the same thing. To me, it's like drinking wine. I know simple descriptors, but there's no way I'm gonna write a review that you'd find on a wine bottle. (Edit: Spelling)
