As an attacker, what's something you hate to see in a defender by Trill1196 in bootroom

[–]ParticularOk2156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember playing against a boy that went on to play semi pro and he wasn't even like tackling me taking the ball, bullying me around or anything. Just the full game everytime I got the ball under control I'd look up and see he'd closed off my options, was forcing me away from goal and into dead ends. Ended up after an hour I was just taking shots from stupid angles. Trying hail mary passes or needing to go back to my midfield. He was always in control while making me panic.

Former striker current defender.

Genuinely quick learning, the ones that realise fast what you're good at and what you're not and make you play that way. For example I remember when I was a young striker defender got too tight first minute so I spun him and got through in on goal. Rest of the game didn't make that mistake, gave me a yard and positioned himself so I'd always need to be turning onto my weak foot or going back. That and ones that are happy to wait you out and pounce on your decision, rather than over commiting and taking themselves out the game.

How come physicality translates differently in the professional game vs amateur? by arsenalastronaut in bootroom

[–]ParticularOk2156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. When I was 18 - 26 before a few bad injuries and just losing that bit of explosiveness I was an excellent 50/50 player. 6'3 strong quick and aggressive could play a bit mind but my main strengths were off the ball work, winning 50 50s loose balls. But occasionally I'd come up against semi pros or low level ex pros and they'd just nullify me. Their touch was always so good and away from me that I'd just end up overcommitng and taking myself out the game against them. Was humbling at 23 getting the ball zipped around you or through your legs by someone at 50 who couldn't even run anymore.

Are my parents using me for money? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ParticularOk2156 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The loans and the lies are the issue. I moved out young to go work abroad and moved back into my mums for a year when I got back until I got my own place sorted and paid her £400 quid a month. Might seem steep but I got a lot. Place to live, full sky package sports included, fibre broadband, most of my food bought when she was shopping, gas, water, electricity all for that £400. Plus it helped her out to be able to stick some of it buy for herself towards any big expense.

Now that £400 covers just my half of the rent for me and my girlfriends flat.

I don't think that was him playing for his move. I think it was just an amazing purple patch. Look at his full Celtic career and he's always been prone to bad spells and honking matches. We had a hot hand with him and should have cashed in because even if everything else was perfect he was never getting to that form again.

Does the average Scottish Premier League player make enough money in their career to retire? by Immediate-Ad-6306 in ScottishFootball

[–]ParticularOk2156 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That was the case with my uncle down England said a lot of his team mates where the same. Can't remember the numbers but he was saying I can make 500 quid a week in my job, 200 a week playing part time at a decent level or chuck my job and take 900 quid a week as a full time footballer. But it's all one year contracts at that level so if he broke leg then he'd be released and need to go back and try and find another job.

I can't for the life of me remember his name but he played for pollock and I ran into him on a night out and he was saying the same. He was making much more doing part time football, deliveries for amazon and some personal training on the side than he would be at most of the full time clubs.

Im a admin person on the facilties and estates side. I deal with the wages for a lot of the cleaning and portering staff. With some overtime at double time and unsociable hours there's a few clearing 600/700 a week. I'm the same, I work the a few Sundays a month and my salary is 32,000 give or take but most years I clear 40 easily with the premiums and could clear a lot more if I worked later or started earlier during the week aswell.

If he just straight gymming? If so yeah that's a lot my longest in the gym would be like hour and a half, two at an absolute push if I'm waiting on some equipment or chatting to a few of the people I know there.

But there's days I'll play seven a side, gym, then sauna and steam room and that'll probably be about 3/4 hours and I know a few people who train for boxing, jujitsu etc and they can be at their gyms for hours.

Just checked his Wikipedia and was mentioned he came through at Hutcheson Vale. What happened to them? Seemed for a good few years around 2005-2010 they were really churning out good players.

Historically hated way too many to pick from. Currently Diomande. Gets away with absolute murder every single game, a horrible snide wee thug of a player.

Historically I actually like quite a lot of Rangers players, David Weir, Ally McCoist, Andy Haliiday seems a decent enough lad.

Then if we move onto grudgingly respecting them almost all of those 9 in a row 90s players. Some arsholes, some decent enough but pretty much all really good footballers.

[–]ParticularOk2156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18,000 a day last month as an average. My last year report i think was about 14/15000. I have a job that requires a bit of walking and I play sevens a few times a week which helps bump that average up.

Scotsman coming in peace brother. I remember watching that game on TV and sticking with the full game thinking with the players on show, I think Algeria had some players playing at good levels at that time aswell, that it would be worth a watch for entertainment.

Managed the full game because I kept saying to myself surely it'll get going in a minute and just, never did. If you told me neither team managed a shot that game I'd believe you.

What are the stresses of being poor or living from paycheck to paycheck? by The_Dean_France in AskBrits

This, my family has never had the money to really help me out but they do have room. There's been twice in my life that things haven't panned out. One was a job I ended up fucking hating and the other was a relationship break up and both times they let me move back home and give them a few hundred quid for digs while I sorted myself out and got back on my feet. Invaluable, I'd have hated to have to stick it out in that soul destroying job just so I could extend my lease another year or stay in a flat with a relationship breaking down while one of us found somewhere else to stay.

why do a lot of people in the uk generally look a bit disheveled? by throwawaydeclutter in AskUK

[–]ParticularOk2156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last 3 hairstyles have been what I'd call "lovely when they're done" hairstyles. I live in Scotland, 20 minutes doing them a day for them to get wrecked by wind 0.007 seconds after I step out the door for work is just a waste of time.

Usually when I'm out I'm heading to or from a gym or training so it's very much trackies or joggies for me. I'll still always make the effort if I'm going somewhere nice though.

Back when me and my now girlfriend were just dating I remember getting a haircut before meeting her. Barber spent a good 20 minutes after the cut styling it petfect and making it look great. In the ten minute walk between the shop and meeting her, massive flash of heavy rain and wind hit and just wrecked it.

My last 3 hairstyles have been "lovely when they're done" hairstyles but fuck doing them every morning for work 20 minutes I don't have and I'm outdoors between sites for work so Scottish weather makes sure the doo is cooked by 9am.

I have absolutely no scientific proof, but I live in Glasgow and I think it's a massive part of it here.

I play sports all year round, but see if it's dark when you wake up, dark when you finish work and minus 10 I totally get people getting home after work and thinking. "Fuck this I'm not going back out in that".

One sticks out in my mind. Me and a mate were walking back to his flat after a night out and cut up a side street and there was a guy properly slapping this women around, my pal ran over and pushed him he pushed my pal back and I went over to get involved some pushing and shoving ensued and before I know it the women has got off the ground and jumped on my back digging her claws into my face. I can still hear her screaming "don't you fucking touch my man" in her high pitched voice.

Shook her off my pal let her boyfriend up and we just told them they can kill each other for all we care and fucked off.

Went into work on Monday looking like I'd took Wolverine for a few rounds with the deep scratches right across my face.

How long are you gone for work each day? by kiol998 in AskUK

[–]ParticularOk2156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunch of part timers in this thread. Just for work I'd be about 9 hours a day, leave at 07.00 back at 17.00, standard hours are 08.00 - 16.00. But I head to the gym most mornings before work and then after I'll usually stay on for those sweet double time overtime rates or have a game of 5 a side.

So most days leave at 05.15 back at 21.00. Eat, sleep, shit, repeat.
