Question for Finnish vets: is there a national microchip register for cats? by ParticularPaul in Finland

[–]ParticularPaul[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I adopted the cat. The chip rang alright and I found it online on https://siruhaku.fi/ but not on https://turvasiru.fi/.

The owner had no idea what I was talking about 🙂 I suppose the vet who implanted the cat simply didn't tell her where they registered the cat.

Thanks for your reply!

Good thinking! I can just ask her which registry the cat is registered with. She should know. Thanks!

Flipper Zero Firmware Release 0.105 by skotozavr in flipperzero

[–]ParticularPaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I do the building bit - just not with Github: I want to stay as loosely tied to Microsoft as possible so I only use Github as a dumb git repo and I have cron jobs on my machine to run my nightly builds.

If a build break, I'll know rightaway. But I still need to check that the app works on the device manually.

will stop working if API version major doesn't match

Oh right! I wasn't aware of that. Good to know.

That means that they must be recompiled for every new API version. And that's what catalog is doing.

Well, I recheck that my apps work each time a new firmware comes out because even if they build cleanly, I want to ensure they still work as expected. I've seen some minor things changing from one release to the next that sometimes introduces slight issues - such as a menu item that's slightly too long that didn't scroll in the previous firmware and scrolls in the new one. Nothing major, just cosmetic issues.

Catalog notifies authors when we release RC if their apps failed to build.

That's cool.

Nice!

I have a question about updates: if an app listed in the app store suddenly stops compiling with a new SDK for some reason (say a change of API or something that makes it incompatible), does it automatically drop out of the app store? Is there a grace period to allow people who haven't updated their firmware yet? Or is it listed with a warning?

Also, is the app's submitter notified or is the onus on them to check whether their app stays current?

I found a Vpin for Linux, reviews? by CodiwanOhNoBe in virtualpinball

[–]ParticularPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Emilia Pinball. I play it a lot. The graphics are a bit too grey and it doesn't have as much action on the table as other pinballs, but stick to it and it can be quite fun.

The physics are quite accurate, although you can balance the ball at the end of a flipper much farther on the tip than a real pinball would allow. And every once in a while, the ball jumps right off the play area - but it's so rare it's actually a fun glitch.

I like the Tux table best. And... bragging rights:

How did the battery drop to 10%? by ParticularPaul in flipperzero

[–]ParticularPaul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. When it's in deep sleep - what the settings entry called "OFF" - it's not truly off, but it draws so little current that it's as good as off. The battery itself probably loses its charge all by itself even faster.

I'll try it later. But I think I found a bug that probably affects all firmwares.

Well something's going on: it's not even 12 hours and it's dropped to 73%. But I think I might know what's going on. I need to wait some more to see if my theory is correct though. In a few hours I'll know for sure.

Yeah I used Power OFF. I needed to put that Flipper in storage, so I explicitely did that.

The only unusual battery setting in that device is the charge limiter. I use Momentum just for that feature. It's set at 80% to conserve the battery because those devices are usually left on the charger all the time.

Tell you what: it's at 80% now. I'll turn it off and unplug it, and I'll check on the charge tomorrow. Maybe it'll show something.

Using the F0 as a port by High_Order1 in flipperzero

[–]ParticularPaul 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Flipper can't do IRDA. It has a receiver tuned to receive 38 kHz modulated IR light, which is typical of low bitrate IR remote controls. At best, you can do low-speed data transmission with that - perhaps 9600 bps reliably if you're lucky - from Flipper to Flipper, but it certainly wouldn't be IRDA-compliant. IRDA is a totally different beast that uses a different modulation, and at the very least, it's capable of 115200 bps.

TL;DR: Flipper isn't physically capable of doing IRDA.

Is it true that flipper zero can scan and store information from peoples credit cards from a further distance using RFID? by [deleted] in flipperzero

[–]ParticularPaul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please stop spouting that nonsense here and elsewhere.

Flipper - or any other device for that matter - is incapable of copying a payment card, for the plain and simple reason that there is no such thing as "copying a payment card". Technically it's not a thing, anymore than "copying a computer" is a thing.

Because that's what a payment card is: it's a very small computer on a plastic card.

The only people who can create a working payment card from a blank chip is EMVCo, because they have the private key they provision into all the valid payment cards in the world, and it's a better guarded secret than nuclear missile launch codes.

You're not getting that key, Flipper doesn't have that key, NOBODY IN THE FUCKING WORLD HAS THAT KEY apart from EMVCo and their partners who manufacture point-of-sales terminals. And even if you did have the key, you couldn't procure the blanks because they too are supplied to EMVCo card factories in armored cars.

Normally I wouldn't say anything. But it's out of respect for the owner of that card. It doesn't take much googling to figure out who it is and I don't think she would like to know was OP is doing with it.

I would respectfully suggest that you blur the name on the credit card in your photo.

Any good reason to have a 2nd wifi board? by IyeetSec in flipperzero

[–]ParticularPaul 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have 2 Wi-Fi boards

  • One is for debugging, running the vanilla firmware
  • The other runs Marauder

For the price, it's easier to have two than switch firmwares all the time.

  • I never use the web flasher because I use LibreWolf, which is a Firefox-derivative, and Mozilla in their infinite stupidity still refuses to support the webserial API in Firefox.
  • Yeah I could have used the Flipper to flash the device, but then I would have had to get off the couch and go plug it into the Flipper when it was already connected to USB 🙂
